Also, I've seen a lot of fights stopped quickly when someone is getting pounded like Carwin was. When I first saw Carwin fight a few years ago I saw a lot of potential and a future heavyweight champion. The problem is, unlike Dos Santos & Velasquez, Carwin hasn't really improved much. I think he needs to seriously change up his training, training partners, etc, so he can expand his skills & improve his cardio. If he could throw some kicks/knees, and improve his striking defense, he would take the belt and keep it for a while.

Dos Santos, if you don't know, is a Jiu Jitsu blackbelt, and has won Jiu Jitsu championships in Brazil. @MtGuyful Shane was never "good" at standup, he just hits like a freaking bus so if anything connects at all it's over. Shane had mir up against the cage and just hit him with a few short shots and dropped him and finished him with ground and pound. He poped gonzaga with two small punches and he went down. Most fighters have to connect with a clean shot to the jaw line to straight drop somebody, or the temple to wobble them. Not shane.....

Carwin is good at knocking people out, but someone who is actually good at standup can easily out strike him and avoid his power until he wears down. It's an example of potential vs realized. He has potential because of his immense strength, but he isn't realizing anywhere near all of that potential because he hasn't got the discipline and technique to back it up.

When I first saw Carwin fight a few years ago I saw a lot of potential and a future heavyweight champion. The problem is, unlike Dos Santos & Velasquez, Carwin hasn't really improved much. I think he needs to seriously change up his training, training partners, etc, so he can expand his skills & improve his cardio. If he could throw some kicks/knees, and improve his striking defense, he would take the belt and keep it for a while.

This fight should have been stopped. Shane could have been seriously hurt for a lifelong injury. Mirko Crocop had enough wits to call it quits when he lost vision due to the assault of Dos Santos. UFC is a fighting sport but fighters should also be subjected to referee's call to prevent lifelong debilitating injuries.
