I've always wondered what the point of "playing" an instrument is if it isn't "playful". Clearly, quite a bit of music is playful, as well, but so much of it from lofty "classical" is rather sober and serious business! Surely, in those cases, couldn't another verb suffice? All too often, it's grimly ironic that a person would "play" a concerto that they must labor over to learn. Thank you, Greg Pattillo, for putting the "play" back into playing classical flute. *applauds* You make me smile! :)

Hmm....I noticed that Greg Pattillo is not keeping his flute straight across, generally lining up with the shoulders. This is how I was taught to play, haha, my teacher scolds me for letting it drop. I understand that your arms get very tired, but say you are playing in a concert. Do you still move so lively? Or are you supposed to stay still?

Straight across really only applies to marching style, you shouldnt keep it straight across for regular playing

Well. yeah. truthfully almost everyone slants their flute. you move to how you like you're embouchure. Your teacher may be right to try to get you the best mechanics until you can find out own your own what you are most comfortable with.
