LOL The second time Greg started beat boxing, Nina looked at him and then Greg raised his eyebrows and stopped. XD I love his facial expressions when he plays!
This is a good song but the only problem is Greg's beatboxing issue. He is a very good beatboxer but this is a CLASSICAL duet not something he should joke about.
@Misaburn57 hahaha first of all, i do not post such comments, this was the only one of this type on this video, i wanted to know how is like to post such comment
Happy hollydays and don;t forget : God loves you anyway" don't waste your time on hollydays and events writing comments on youtube, i don't want to think that you are lonely!
So great, so much self-irony, Nina. You are the great example of a classical trained musician who is always open for new experiences. You are the bridge between classical music, contempary music and newe technologies as the internet. Great!! I adore your posts, they are so precious for my flute playing (I am mostly self-taught). Your online lessons are giving me a lot of new impulses.
but he should keep beatboxing wiht the flute and if he can play classical then great but beatbozing wiht the flute is what he dose and i hope no body tries to change that bcuaz he is great at it !!
I love how Greg has the look of "I didn't do nothing" after every bit of beatboxing he inserted into the piece (and Nina shooting back looks of "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU. I SAID THIS WAS CLASSICAL IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA")
I've always wondered what the point of "playing" an instrument is if it isn't "playful". Clearly, quite a bit of music is playful, as well, but so much of it from lofty "classical" is rather sober and serious business! Surely, in those cases, couldn't another verb suffice? All too often, it's grimly ironic that a person would "play" a concerto that they must labor over to learn. Thank you, Greg Pattillo, for putting the "play" back into playing classical flute. *applauds* You make me smile! :)
@TheOnlySilverUnicorn to play something without studying it for days, weeks, sometimes months, only if you are a guy like john coltrane who makes brilliant improvises... and thats for jazz and improvisable music, cuz you cant just "make" a concert for flute and orchestra by improvisation
oh, ian anderson plays rock-flute, mostly improvisation, it is great. hear Jethro tull!
because in the classical time, art was centered around the concept of Beauty.
It wasn't until artists like Dali introduced different concepts.
Oh, I guess my true answer is just the fact that "playing instruments" is considered art.
You seem verbal, so maybe you should look into the etymology of art? It probably has something to do with aristocracy otherwise I have no idea why it carries an arrogant air in the classical ages.
Nice performance with great mastery of the flute! You just earned another subscriber courtesy of rroysdm, a previous subscriber who has so graciously referred your talent, to me!
Hmm....I noticed that Greg Pattillo is not keeping his flute straight across, generally lining up with the shoulders. This is how I was taught to play, haha, my teacher scolds me for letting it drop. I understand that your arms get very tired, but say you are playing in a concert. Do you still move so lively? Or are you supposed to stay still?
ya, both sarmikgar and pandyplaysflute are correct. i feel like i get better tone when i move around (idk what to call it), but it wouldn't be good if it makes your tone worse
Staying still is to keep sanity during a concert. Same reasons why all concerto instruments are designed the same. You wouldn't want to give the guy next to you a concussion would you?
Well. yeah. truthfully almost everyone slants their flute. you move to how you like you're embouchure. Your teacher may be right to try to get you the best mechanics until you can find out own your own what you are most comfortable with.
Hi Nina, do you know what type of flute Greg plays on? Cause I thought he always played on a standard flute for beatboxing, but I don't know if standard flute could sound as good as in the video o.o
