  • Get up sould be international we need one in canada

  • I'm curious, if an Australian travelled to Iran seeking asylum, what do you think will happen?

  • @fxnooodle hope you die on the boat over.

  • Comment removed

  • Please. For Just one moment. Imagine your self, your family and your life however it was you were living it when you were a child. Now imagine It was your country that because of something you and your family had no control over became unsafe. That you lived in daily fear of being killed, tortured, or locked up only because of where you happened to be or what you happened to look like. Would your parents risk their lives to try and take their family somewhere safe? We are all just people damnit.

  • Great job the GetUp members! Wish you the best of luck, and also thanks to Australian people and government who have always been very generous and supportive towards the Hazaras.

  • @aliinkabul Getup your bum go and stick it up Bob Brown because not all of us feel hard done sexually and want to brainwash the weak and down and all who cant think for themselves.Your full of shit and its a free world because not all of us agree with Communists and pot smoking drug addict knobheads who have never seen a soap or shaving blade

  • @megadak123 LOL You talk out of your rear end. Ever been to a Communist Country? They give much harsher penalties to possesion of dope, they do not tolerate homosexuality and they tend to be very clean and shaven (except perhaps Stalin's Mustache). You would love it. No sorry you are the one full of shit.

  • Stop Manditory Detention. Why detain everyone? It is not only a strain on finances it is inhumane and assumes guilt ahead of innocence.

  • @millertas Yeah just let everyone in.. That's a great idea, we could even start shipping people out here ourselves, free housing, medical care and welfare for all!!!

  • @sydneymassive Did not say that. All I want is for the Government to follow its obligations under International Law. Even if we gave all the Assylum Seekers free housing, medical care and welfare while they wait for their application to be approved or rejected under UNHCR rules it would still be vastly cheaper than Howard's "Pacific Solution" or any other overseas detention centre. You listen too much to the shock Jocks.

  • @millertas Detaining them offshore is a much more cost efficient method than housing them within our borders, appointing them lawyers and allowing them access to our courts, not to mention the health care costs and the individual costs of holding them there. Detaining them offshore is also a strong deterrent . I don't listen to anybody it's called rationality, strange I know. Also why should we be held hostage by "International law" we are our own country and do not have to answer to anybody.

  • @sydneymassive Wrong. Howard's Pacific Solution cost the taxpayer more than the entire onshore processing for the previous ten years. I know you can't get your head around it but it is true. I think we will have to disagre on "allowing them access to our courts" since it is a basic human right to have legal representation. You may think that detaining them offshore is a strong deterrent but if you knew what they have had to put up with before then you'd realise it is not.

  • @millertas That last remark made you sound like an arrogant Aussie. Bit like white South Africa during the 60s, 70s and 80s.

  • @millertas Greens and Labor only want immigrants for their votes, look at the seats won by Labor in the NSW election Lakemba etc.. while I know that immigration is needed as a part of labor supply, we have no obligation to help anybody, you are welcome if you have something to offer. Comparing my views to apartheid SA is ridiculous. You are probably sheltered away in Tassie , Vic or the north shore. And fuck the UN the most useless organisation on the planet. That is all

  • @sydneymassive True I live in Tassie however for most of my life I lived in Melbourne and saw migrants from all around the word. I have a saying for people who like to blaim those born overseas (my parents were both born in London BTW) "They come over here go on the dole and take our jobs". It is interesting that you know how migrants and refugees vote.and also interesting that you believe that the Greens like immigration to boost their base support which goes against the facts.

  • @millertas Labor specifically, the Greens are a non entity (evidenced by today's election results). The "real" states, that is the ones that actually contribute significantly to our output (QLD, WA, NSW) all vote Liberal. (QLD may have a labor govt. now but expect a swing). Doesn't this indicate something? Only Victorians, Tasmanians and a handful of inner city uni students think the way you do (not to mention the recent immigrants).

  • @sydneymassive One election don't make a movement. One time you blaim the Greens for what you conceive are the woes of your little world then you say they are a non-entity. Did you know that over half the food output of this nation actually come out of Victoria and Tasmania. Did you know that while the old red necks were protesting against the Carbon Tax, Get-up managed to mobilise twice those in Melbourne in favour of action against Climate Change. One Nation is dead but you can't accept it.

  • @millertas Victoria and Tasmania are the "pie eaters" which is why they want to tax and take, while the "pie makers", (NSW, QLD, WA) create the wealth. Don't make me laugh "Did you know that over half the food output of this nation actually come out of Victoria and Tasmania" you cannot even pretend that is this case. Could not be more wrong. Of course the unwashed masses are going to attend a rally, while people like me work. And I wasn't alive when One Nation was up and running.

  • @sydneymassive Well I know that over half of the nation's food is produced in these two states. Even more during the drought. Britain produces more food than Australia, its called soil quality and water availability. The "unwashed masses" that makes me laugh. Where on Earth did you get that? You don't seem to be working now? (unless you waste your employer's time and internet band). You are obviously quite young but please stop the prejudice.

  • @sydneymassive Oh BTW Tasmania per head of population exports more than any other state.

  • @millertas Well hurry up and drift off

  • @sydneymassive LOL You are full of it.

  • @millertas Tasmania=ass end of the world. As for Victoria..

  • @sydneymassive So you want to isolate Tasmanians, Victorians, Overseas born, Labor Voters, Green Voters,(have I got them all?). You're quite xenophobic aren't you? I believe once you isolate all them you are in a minority.

  • @millertas sad but true

  • @sydneymassive Yes that is why I went on your site. As I told you there you don't know the difference between fame and notoriety. A bit of a worry.

  • @sydneymassive You might like to reconsider given this fact. Despite the swing to conservatism, The NSW Greens INCREASED their primary vote. But hell - don't let facts sway you from your beliefs.

  • @prosmart Too bad they didn't win a seat.

  • @sydneymassive I couldn't agree more. Perhaps you can help next time.

  • @prosmart No chance

  • @sydneymassive Why put down the UN? The west justified the attack on Iraq based on Iraq not abiding by UN rules but Australia only takes notice when it suits right-wing bigots? Perhaps I could say that the right are only against refugee intake to sure up their vote. I for one don't want to see an isolated Australia. It is not in our interests and it is not in the World's interests.

  • @millertas Iraq war is a red herring. As for the UN it's goal is for one world government united under a socialist regime. Read the Agenda 21 agreement, that is not in the best of Australia. The right are not against immigration, without immigration we are incapable of being internationally competitive, but are against people abusing our generosity by destroying their documents and fraudulently claiming asylum.

  • @sydneymassive Like how those who told us that Saddam Hussein had shit loads of WMDs (now there is a red herring if ever was one) you now just want to brush it off as "well just a little mistake". The right who so wanted the war will not come clean that it was at best a momental stuff up that could easily lead to another 911 in the future. Your "the UN it's goal is for one world government united under a socialist regime" just highlights that you are just paranoid. You make me laugh.

  • dear Najeeba,

Your courage is inspiring, keep this lovely momentum,

    warm regards Danielle :)

  • We are honored to have such courageous, beautiful and intelligent people like these refugees in Australia.

Some of the people who comment here are so filled with hatred and at the same time so little character that to them a couple of dollars is more important than helping their fellow human beings. it's people like them that are the ones destroying what is beautiful about Australian culture, at the same time selling out their own ancestors who came here seeking a better world.

  • Don't take them out of detention, send them back from where came from ..

    Problem solved.

  • @queenkimbo i know that's what she meant that's why i suggested she rephrase it.. I understand it's a hard thing to do, but when you are desperate it certainly isn't a hard decision to make.

  • i feel sorry for those people as much as the next person but they have money come to australia and take our citizen test ffs

  • the world is overpopulated guys and the population of the world is rapidly increasing more and more people will be in a refugee situation in the furute it cannot be helped. however the answer isnt to just let everydody in cause we feel sorry for them children or not, millions of kids die of starvation everday should we let them all in as well.............

  • @metho20

Some parts of the world are overpopulated some are far far from it...i.e Australia. We as people and as a country have the capacity to help MUCH more than we currently are. Your defeatist attitude is saddening...

  • fuck the immigrant fucks, taking my tax money

  • @RobStaniford Aww, they're encroaching on your Australian way of life, are they? If only they could learn English and be as eloquent as you. Good work on the tax dollars spent on your own education and safe upbringing. A sound investment.

  • also not to belittle your plight but i would suggest rephrasing your 'it was a tough decision to leave' statement to a 'we were forced to leave'. if you are under great threat within your home country the decision to leave should be very simple, in fact not even a decision so much as your only option. other than that it is a moving video.

  • @johnchapterseventeen I think by that she simply means it's a difficult thing to leave your whole life behind. It's a quick decision that needs to be made, and essentially you're saying goodbye to everything you know, and quite possibly, your friends and family too.

  • i would support the release of unaccompanied children into foster care, but i don't think we should seperate parents and children lest we be rediculed for stealing another generation (damned if we do damned if we don't scenario).

  • How annoying is that music! It made the video unwatchable

  • When faced with this kind of reality it'd be hard to imagine even the far right politicians and supporters to not be moved. Too bad they'd always refuse to be faced with any kind of reality.

  • I feel ashamed that Australia, through it's various governments, has allowed this to continue, but at the same time very proud that I am a supporter of GetUp! and that we're finally achieving some real grass roots politics.

Well done Simon and everyone else involved.

  • @prosmart I'm for this ONLY if they learn english and get jobs. No mooching off our tax money.

  • @n3rd89 "our" tax money? As opposed to "their" tax money? There is no "them" and "us" - only in peoples minds.

  • @prosmart Julia Gillard will be re-elected if Australians want Government to be bankrupt and to bankrupt the people, continue down this path of open borders,3rd world infrastructure degradation,a social degradation, high unemployment and debt, more 3rd world settlers arriving here to receive social welfare and get priority, and a 3rd world way of life. Some Australians were stupid enough to vote for Mr Dudd and the Dudd that replaced him but not all Australians are braindead dickheads who will buy it

  • @megadak123 Thank you for your insightful and intelligent comments on this subject. I'm sorry to see that you feel so threatened and would like to assure you that your fears are baseless. I see no point in continually electing politicians who put their greed before their grandchildren and answer only to big businesses who care only for profits. It's time for a change.

  • @prosmart fk the corporations who want more 3rd world settlers here to become consumers you never knew that did you because your so full of your own shit.If your not some bludger in the public sector or part of the Communists from the Greens and ALP,then it will eventually hit you in the pocket and affect your standard of living as well, cocksucker!

  • @MsTsarbomba FYI. I am not a "bludger in the public sector", nor am I a "Communist" (are you channeling Eugene McCarthy?). I happen to be the owner of a small business who has a conscience and cares about people regardless of their colour or racial origin. I'm not going to respond to the name calling because I don't believe that that is at all constructive. I hope you have a better day.

  • @prosmart You people from the Gay marriage Climate Change uni rally's dont even know what a soap or shaving blade is,and you stink like shit as well!!! Your a blight on humanity

  • @MsTsarbomba I don't believe that I have ever attended a "Gay marriage Climate Change uni rally" but it does sound like a lot of fun. If all you are going to do is to name call then I'm not going to bother responding to you. You sound like you are very angry and very frightened and I would suggest you seek professional counselling advice - but you probably don't believe in that either. Take a breath. If you want to engage me in a sensible debate then I would be delighted to oblige you.

  • @megadak123 ok mr abbot, go back to your corner now.
