I always thought Daleks looked a bit different - I've seen them on the telly, you know? (And now, I'm searching for a sonic screwdriver to protect me from Daleks in germany.) - "Ex-Ter-Mi-Nieren! Ex-Ter-Mi-Nieren!" (I wonder what problems they got with their kidneys...)
Funny thing: In one episode, we hear the Daleks briefly speaking German, and they say "Exterminieren"; but when Doctor Who was dubbed into German, what the German translators came up with was "Vernichten".
Because "exterminieren" though being German was an expression that barely someone understood lets say until a movie called "Terminator". ;) I think that's all of the mystery. So "Vernichten" was a proper translation back then. And it worked as a hint to the Nazis as well, because of "Vernichtungslager". The phrase "Vernichtung" or "vernichten" also has a very bad connotation in some contexts, even worse than "exterminieren". So it was just to use a translation people could deal with.
@rewboss mostly likely because english people can identify better with exterminieren since its very close to exterminate, if they all said vernichten then i don't think that same "EXTERMINATE" terror of the dalek voice would still exist...
LOL! That was awesome! As you know I love sound and that was a great effect. I have no idea how you did that. I did send you an email saying that I can't do this right now but it might be one of those videos that I make long after the fact.
I've added a link near the bottom of the video description that explains how I did that sound. Basically, it's a ring modulator with everything set to pretty close to zero.
Was zur Hölle is das xD

Yes, establishing yourself as supreme ruler of the universe sounds like an admirable goal indeed.
Your qualifications and personality have convinced me, Dalek. You're hired!

The "new" Doctor Who (Doctors 9 and 10) episodes have "Eliminieren" (and a not so smurfy dalek voice) in the german dubs.
Und nun, zurück zum Alltag.
DerKork 2 years ago
even worse: in the first season with chris eccleston its "eliminieren"...
