  • who are these trombonists who are subbing? i think jason thor, francisco torres, and craig ware, but who else?

  • I wish i was that good on trombone solos.

  • All of you doubters should shut your faces. This is the premier big band in the world right now. I doubt anyone good enough to do better wouldn’t waist there time dissing on any of the trombone players.

  • 1:12 someone dropped music.

  • @Slothrop91 Yeah, the saxophonist.

  • it's the camera. Craig is a flawless Bass Trombonist.

  • Gordon Goodwin has a very good lead trombone player.

  • @brianh794 That's not his regular Lead Bone player. His Lead Bone player is actually Andy Martin. But still a flawless player.

  • i think mesa did this a lot better.

i went to one of mesa's recent concerts at Dizzy's.

    Romeo is a great director

  • to me, the bass trombone sounds like he's struggling for some of the notes (my range on trombone extends to an octave below the pedal tones). It could just be the fact that the camera used just isn't capable of picking up opening to the notes

  • @farfenoogen I'm 100% sure that it's definitely the camera that is deafening the quality of the bass trombone's pedal tones.

  • @farfenoogen def the camera, I gurantee a professional at that level wouldn't miss something like that lol.

  • @farfenoogen there is nothing below the pedal tones

  • @landhunterr actually, there are. Thanks to the nature of brass instruments, you can play nearly any notes with the right skills. I have a a friend who can play higher than a trumpet on a bass trombone, for example.

  • @farfenoogen no on a bass trombone below pedals..is more pedals...trust me I play it...

  • @farfenoogen but they don't, for a reason. i think this conversation has gone a little too far....

  • @farfenoogen, i dont think youtube is the place to boast about your ability to play the bass trombone...

  • bass trombone is sick ;)

hopefully i can work it up to this level soon!

  • Great band and good bass trombone player .The trombone players sounded pretty good but the last trombone player to take a solo sounds like bad college player trying to prove to everyone that hes good enough to go pro . What a joke1

  • @PioneerChicken1 that's fransisco torres buddy, he's better than you'll ever be. troll.

  • im a freshman in high school and my jazz band is playin this song but we still needa work on the trombone solos but i'll post a video and im a drummer.

  • got to love the bass trombone part

  • So many trombone solos! Great job! I am a trombone player as well. I wish our band director would put this many trombone solos in a song, especially this one. Great job!(: 5/5

  • Love this song. We're playing it in my school jazz band. I play piano. :)

  • We're attempting this in jazz band right now, and certainly is NOT easy. Still, it's a great song!

  • absolutly love this song. favorite jazz song. i would love to play it some day

  • we are playing this plus Count Bubba and Count Bubba's Revenge for jazz contest next semester. my lips are already sore!!

  • just started playing this at Hamilton Music Academy in Los angeles, already knew the song though. pretty cool chart tough lead trumpet part

  • mee too eric!

  • were playing this in our high school jazz band :)

its soooo fun! but you cut off the scream at the end!

  • we just had this song for a concert and it was so much fun

  • Dude this song is so hard.

  • ive requested it for my jazz band...i play bass trombone love that part at 0:49

  • Ah were playing this at my high school, it's so freaking good!

  • i loved played this song last year! we learned it within 2 and a half weeks before a big concert! but it was worth it because this song was a blast!

  • Yeah this song really IS hard! It might not sound like it but really it is. It's the hardest song my band has played. I'm lead tenor and it's crazy But gosh it's so fun! If you read what Goodwin's note in the score says, it's pretty funny. He says stuff like, "Don't even attempt to play this song. It's ridiculous. It's not even a real piece of music; it's meant as a total joke." Yeah he really says along the lines of that. I just can't remember the actual wording. It's really fun to play.

  • The jazz band i'm in is playing it next year and i play tenor so now i'm worried. This year we played The Jazz Police by them though, and that was pretty difficult..

  • Don't worry about it. It's meant to be fun. Just takes a lot of practice.

We played The Jazz Police my freshman year. It is one of my absolute favorites. =]

  • if you thinks that hard. i had to memorize it for marching band this year. woot our final competition is tomrrow. the only word of advice i have that to have fun with it and dont be scared. when you get scared you are more likely to mess up but, if you just have fun you will be great. good luck mand and have fun.

  • Haha I like how you said attempted XDD

  • This song is HARD! I play lead at my high school and we...attempted this song.

  • they needed Andy on this gig. Andy's solo on this on the Phat Pack is killer.

  • I liked the second trombone soloist the best .The third trombone player to solo didnt really do it for me .

  • bass trombone solo had balls but compared to rich bullock this guy doesnt seem like anything

  • The band is really good but thought that the trombone solos were not that great.the last trombone player to solo needs to work on getting a better tone quality .

  • in my opinion you are a really silly guy, that doesn't understand music

go and listen to some punk

  • those trombones were wicked especially the bass trombone at the beggining. t-bones rule

  • DUDE!

this is my altime favorite jazz song!

    TROMBONES ARE WICKED!

    u can't beat trombones.

    :]

  • Craig Ware don't need a mic!!!!

  • No, he Doesn't, read below please.

  • Double D from Bergeron. <3

  • NO!!! its not the same trombone solo as on the CD! why???

  • its called improv, dumbass.

its boring if they just play the same thing over and over again.

    they display talent w/ improv.

  • uhh yeah first of all calm down. Second, i never said i didn't know what improv is. And fine, i'll give you one point, sure they make it more interesting improv'ing, but the solo on the CD is still better.

  • It's always better on the CD because if they don't like it, they can just go back and re-record the thing with a different solo.

  • Go back to school, learn more theory, develop an extensive network as a professional musician, gig a LOT,(longer than you've been alive)try to learn from as many people as you can, and THEN, only then give advice(with tact, I might add) If you were to go to a paid gig, and behave this way, or even a rehearsal, no matter how good you are, you'd be fired. I hope that you got something positive out of this.

  • i member playing this song in high school 2 years ago. it was so amazing. i love playing gordon goodwins music damn

  • I just love this song. We are currently practicing this in our high school jazz band and it is a quite a challenge. I'm just happy i don't have lead trumpet part.

  • you might want to refrase that into "it would be awesome if I could play the first trumpet part"

    a little more positive.

  • i love gordon goodwin's band they're amazing!!! this song is really good, but i think my fav is jazz police ;D

  • trumpets are killin' it!

  • Sorry, but the comments are for IcanSpellMyname ;)

  • Jazz is not for ppl like you. Now please go do something else... You are so stupid man. PLEASE do something with your life, stop post some bad comments and get a life! go out side, go play with some's ppl like you! hmm.. sorry no body are mad like you, so you can go play with litle car man ;)

  • wow just go kill urself

  • Maybe You prefer Soulja Boy? 50 cent? Rhiana?

  • You don't know anything.

  • if you don't like it, why are you watching videos and posting on them? nobody even values your opinion anyway

  • that's the exact kind of comment that encourages the trolls. not that i agree with him.

  • you are a queer.

  • I was there, and I'm not a big fan of their tenor sax tone,...its real honky. I prefer a stan getz-ish tone. but these guys are amazing.

SMOOTH JAZZ SUCKS! THESE GUYS ARE REAL JAZZ!

  • if you're going to be picky, big band music and everything since is fake too, dixieland's the only real jazz =P

  • whahahahhaahaWHAT?

REAL jazz was created by african slaves moving to america. when that started to grow dixieland is a take on that, with the more country influence.

the only thing I don't like about dixie land is that it is to hard to hear the melody, everyone is doing something different.

  • well then whatever the word is for that is what i meant ^^

i don't particularly like dixieland either but i don't think that's my reason, counterpoint can be pretty sick.. hmmm. wtf could it be?

  • YOU, are mocking Gordon Goodwin's tenor sax line....wow...I'd hate to use a word that you used when referring to improvisation and it's definition....lol

  • I realized it was because of the microphone. Microphones warp even the best sax tones.

  • Aww we tried playing this in my high school jazz ensemble. It's fun. =]

  • Bass bone players have enough of a big ego, then yeah let him go and play that?

Cool! Great solos, nice tight togther sound!! Wish I had caught this gig.

  • wicked bass bone. get chills listenin to craig ware crank out that low g! man i bet the beard helps

  • This song is soooo fun to play! we're playing this at my high school. its pretty much the same exact thing.

  • Bass Bone XD

  • check out waynes double d!!!!

  • That bass bone is completely awesome!! im so happy that i get to do that solo next year for school

  • I know the secret of Craig Ware: The beard... all is in the beard:) Haha, awesome playing! Allthough i've heard his pedal C's harder!

  • who else is in the tormbone section becides Craig Ware?

i don't see andy martin, Alex Iles, or Charlie Morillas, who I know usually make up the rest of the section...

  • the bass trombone in this is TOTALLY WICKED!

  • The bass trombonist is Craig Ware. Awesome stuff!

  • being i've had the chance to play the bass trombone part for this song i do have to say that bass bone rips it .... i wish i could have seen this so i could hear that bass bone fill up the room with fat sound....yeah!!!! =)

  • all busy with other stuff I guess...

    and eric wasn't there either!!! : (

  • BASS BONE = SIIIICCCCCKKKKK!!!!
