@alanekohen i know that you will think that. But i've used my iPhone 4 to connect to my iPad 2 via Bluetooth to use the hotspot. And even the iPhone Configuration Utility is telling me that there is something wrong.
For example my iPhone 4 doesn't even see another phone or headphones, eventough my iPad 2 does.
And you're indeed right about the fact that you cannot connect your iPhone with other phones and such.
when you turn on the bluetooth, other gadgets can find your iphone, you have to pair both (device and iphone) from the device, otherwise the iphone wont find it. :/
same problem for me. 8 times over 10 impossible to get iphone connected with my bluetooth car system. Need to switch off manually bluetooh on the iphone, switch on and then get it connected. This problems appears with 5.0.1 update. Thank you Mister Apple for this great manual new feature. Apple made it for us folks!!
I solved the problem, i'll post a video lateron this week about on how to fix this issue!

hey bud...
is not a "problem"
apple devises (iphone and ipod) have bluetooth but its only to use it with bluetooth headphones or bluetooth keyboard..
apple NEVER (and will never) let any of their devises use normal bluetooth couse they have a "legal agreement" with Itunes.
this "legal agreement" is to make sure that ANY APPLE DEVISE CAN'T transfer music to other cellphones, is to PROTECT the musician work.
thats the true.
but u can jailbreak you i-device and download "Celeste" to file-shearing

same here, I think you can only keep activated the bluetooth as long as you find another iDevice.
its a way to save battery power I believe.
