  • at 1:23 is the picture

  • So many people here are related to the Marines in this video, I find that very interesting.

  • Sadly the marine corps is changing. It's not all semper fi anymore. It's semper I. Well done marines. As a combat vet marine of Afghanistan I still cannot imagine the hardship you men had at iwo Jima.A damn fine job. Thank you.

  • pause at 2:24 and thats my grandpa he fought for his life just to save us think about it HARD and if it hadnt been for those marines we would have been defeated

  • PAUSE AT 2:15 - 2:16 THE GUY ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT THAT IS HOLDING HIS HELMET UP IN THE AIR IS MY GRANDFATHER. HE WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER FOR BEING THE ONLY ONE ALIVE(NOT ANYMORE) OUT OF THESE MEN. AND THE ONLY ONE NOT NAMED IN THE PICTURE BECAUSE THEY NEVER COULD FIND OUT WHO THE PERSON WAS.

After high school I'm joining the Marines because i always wanted to join and i want to do it for my grandfather. (and more reasons but theses are the main ones.)

  • @WhiteBoyNJ I knew your grandfather, Ralph, my dad is in the pic too. They were really good friends. My dad died a couple years before him, Anthony Ritondo. He is 3rd under flag to the right with crooked helmet.

  • @WhiteBoyNJ I read a book once (surprisingly) and I read about him! Wish I could thank him!

  • @WhiteBoyNJ My grandfather was a Navajo Code Talker and I am from the Navajo Nation. about three years ago he passed away and he recieved a medal of honor from George W, Bush

  • Tom Hanks is a good actor TOM HANKS -> FTW

  • ira hayes had a sad ending.maby some day i'll pay my respect where he rests.

  • i just noticed that the narrator was tom hanks!

  • @TheHappyjoy2011 i had just watchin the polar express lo

  • I know he didn't raise the flag, but Iggy (Ralph Ignatowsky) plays a major part in the story for me. Not really sure why. The fact that Doc never forgets him... Cry whenever I think about it.

  • god bless the man who gave there all for our freedom THANK YOU

  • mah granddad was in iwo jima but he got wounded and didnt raise the flag.

  • started on my birthday

  • He thinks that picture will be remembered for another 50 years? 2:25. That photo means the Marine Corps forever! I wont let it be another 50. that picture and those men will forever be remembered.

  • 2:46 Wow that is aweful... They don't put that kind of footage into war movies no mater how relistic. Gut wrenching and shocking at the same time.

  • Bill genaust that's a name that hasn't gone down in history as much as Joe rosenthalls name. Wow good footage, tough battle and lots of heroic action from American young men who did their job. Even unto death. And Marines raising that flag under fire and then to continue in the fight and some die shows not only courage but it shows duty.. they simply did their duty without fanfare

  • Yes, Ira Hayes is on the far left, just barely reaching the pole. A very good book on the flagraising is called 'Flags of our Fathers'. The man who wrote this book's father is one of the flagraisers, Doc Bradley. It is a really good book if you are interested in the men who raised the flag.

  • ira was the guy on the far left i belive.

  • which one is Ira Hayes? the one to the very far left during the flag raising?

  • 1:22 USMC!!!!!!!

  • Few people remembered the name of Bill Genaust, the one who shot this motion picture and a forgotten hero.
