a light delivery system to illuminate the organ or object under inspection. The light source is normally outside the body and the light is typically directed via an optical fiber system
a lens system transmitting the image to the viewer from the fiberscope
an additional channel to allow entry of medical instruments or manipulators such as tube to pump air and clamps to take a tissue sample.
the components u mentioned above are actually included in the endoscopy(single) tube passed into the stomach..what my point of confusion is that the camera lens are usually at the tip of the tube so in this case how come the tube is visible in the vid from 1:25 onwards..was the lens attached on a seperate tube..i am a student of biomedical engineering. and hav to prepare a presentation on endoscopy...
Hi I had one 2 days ago, was given sedation but only mild, test only took around 3-5 mins no big deal, was diagnosed with mild gastritis and bile reflux, caused by having no gall bladder
i aslo had it without sedative....but its really a whole lot of experience......l can feel the long tube moving in my upper gastric and and the gaging was soooooo dramatic..........i`ll never ever skip meals anymore...i didn`t know that by just skipping meals and eating spicy foods can give you gastritis..........
I can't believe they do it without sedatives! Where did you get it done? Even with sedatives I had a mild sore throat afterward. I used to skip meals and drink on an empty stomach.
i did it here in japan...i was the one who told the doctor to do the procedure without sedatives....cuz i want to see the whole scene..and of what`s like inside..its really up to you......but atleast its all finish!!!!! i`ll really take care of myself this time........
I bet you surprised your doctor! Most people would like to be sedated during the procedure. But you are right, it's over now, take good care of yourself.
i had this done a number of years ago, doc didn't give me the correct dose of anesthetic and I was awake while they shoved the tube down my throat, I was screaming but they proceded to put a mouth piece in and hold me down instead of giving me more meds, bastards
Wow, that sounds horrible. For me they left the needle on my hand just in case if more sedatives were needed later on. You should slap them for doing that to you =)
Oh yeah, after injection you'll be out in less than a minute. Besides to solve your worries they place a needle on your hand so that if you gag during procedure they may administer extra sedative. But this is highly unlikely to happen. So don't worry, it's fairly simple procedure. You won't feel a thing except the needle. And even that one is a tiny needle. It's like a mosquito bite.
Ok that's good. I can handle a needle. I'd rather take the needle than feel that tube going down my throat. Im getting my stomach looked at to solve the problem of me feeling sick all the time, and i damn sure dont want
to be gagging while theyre doing this. that's the reason im going in the first place because i feel like that every damn day.
You'll be fine as long as you keep your stomach empty from night before the procedure and don't drink anything in the morning. Wish you a speedy recovery.
I've been suffering from mild to moderate chest pain for about six months. Symptoms were pain on the left side of the chest about an inch below the left nipple, burning sensation, tightness of the chest. The symptoms were similar to those of angina. At first I was asked to have a blood test, chest X-ray and resting ECG. After return of normal results a heart related condition was ruled out and Upper Gastro-Intestinal Endoscopy was suggested to pinpoint the source of pain.
what is that black rod like thing that appears at 1:40 ...is it the endoscopy tube itself??

a rigid or flexible tube
a light delivery system to illuminate the organ or object under inspection. The light source is normally outside the body and the light is typically directed via an optical fiber system

what is the risk if youre not taking the medicines
jonatcortez 3 years ago
If you don't take medicines it may develop into severe gastritis and cause peptic ulcer.
P.S. sorry for such a late reply but for some reason I couldn't post replies but now it seems to be working fine.

About the procedure:
---------------------
1. Intravenous injection of 10mg Dormicum
2. Desensitizing spray into mouth and throat, which you are asked to swallow.
Sedative is quick acting and I was out in less than a minute. I woke up after 2 hours.
100% painless (except the injection).
Aftereffects: Slight dizziness which wears off in about an hour.
The whole procedure was much better than I expected. The best part is - you feel nothing.

ok so do they knock you out completely. Im probably going to have to have this done and im scared i wont be totally knocked out.
