actually in some techniques a frappe can be done from coupe instead of a flexed foot,,the problem with this chick is you cant tell if shes in coupe devant or if shes trying to wrap her foot .. her frappes arent sharp..when she goes to the side she doesnt change her coupe from front to back, so her first frappe derriere starts from coupe devant ? i can imagine if i was a beginner trying to learn from these videos id be VERY confused ..
doesnt a frappe start with a flexed foot? thats how i do it at my dance school. thats how we learn to brush through the floor. but i dont understand.. how can you do a frappe with a pointed foot ?! :/
um. i dont understand. the tecnique is wrong except she has a turnout which is good i guess.... but... she's doing it as if she's on releve...even still performing it badly. she's NOT striking the floor, not bring it in with a flexed foot, its way too relaxed and argh this makes me so mad lol. even when on releve it should be sharp.. a strike. sorry but this pisses me off
who the hell taught you ballet!!!!! you should not be allowed on youtube. you should not be allowed to teach. you shouldnt talk like you know anything!!!!!! this is absolute crap. look at her first position. its a V. you are meant to aim for 180. that is no where near a frappe. you are wrong. my mum owns a ballet school, and her, my sister and i have spent hours pissing ourselves laughing at your stupidity. go to a ballet lesson. please, for the sake of humanity.

BTW Frappe means 'to strike' ie. strike the floor NOT what this video is showing. This is just a point and close to sur le coupe de pied position. Do NOT watch expert village....they are no experts!
can someone tell me how to do REAL frappe's? because i just started ballet and im trying to find decent videos and ive never seen frappes or ecartes or coupes or anything ballet related before and i need HELP!!!
ok first of all those are the kind of frappes you do en pointe...but even if she was en pointe they're still bad. she doesn't know how to keep her hips and shoulders square and her elbow is always drooping in all these videos!
i dont want to be mean but it looks more degage because frappe means to 'strike', which means you have to strike the floor with your foot and your foot is just pointing out in front of you and not touching the group :(
@Paulinharfr I think the problem is that she is saying this information is coming from a dance academy. The immediate thought is: dance academy = proper training of technique. In actuality, this whole series of videos teach horrid beginning lessons. I won't even say technique, because she's not even talking about what SHOULD be done through out the body technically to execute this sort of movement. The foot *striking* the ground and back to the leg is not the ONLY thing to be considered.
questo video è da abolire.. è tutto sporco e brutto.. braccia rigide, brutta postura, brutta rotazione delle gambe e dei piedi.. pessima quella prima posizione,,
lmfao!!! .. i dont see the beautiful turn out, or first ... then her arms, wow.. aweful!!! .. sec 18, lol its funny to see how someoone behind the camera tells her that her arm is wrong, she fixes it
this is a different kind of frappe. not many studios still do this kind.
most do the one where your toes hit the floor next to your foot and brush out like a degage.
this ones a little more classical and teachers control.
and hey insulters,
these ballet classes are for FREE. That's why they suck so bad. if you're on youtube looking for "good technique" ballet lessons, then get off your ass and go pay for god damn classes at a studio. Geez.
I don't even know what to say. Those frappes aren't even acceptable for a beginning adult drop in class. There are three methods on how to do a frappe, and even the Vaganova method, which maintains a pointed foot throughout, never terminates a terre. Disgraceful.
she says "beautiful turnout" or "beautiful first" etc when it's NOT beautiful.
I was always taught to frappe with a flexed foot... also, she looks like she's doing tendu combo(even though her foot is wrapped, the way she puts her foot out is weird) not frappes.
i was taught by my first teacher to do frapps with a wrapped foot to start with so it is possible to do both. depends on which technique you are taught i guess, i was vaganova trained, but in any case that is NOT a good frapp!
that is definitely NOT a frappe. first of all, her head didn't even move for the postitions. and your supposed to strike with the ball of your foot, not the point. dont teach this if you can't do it right
you know what gets me? she says its "on point." first i'd like to say that was so not. she didn't stand sur le point at all. and second its pronounced EN point. so not only is it a poor attempt at speaking french properly, but she was lying at even trying to say that. its sad really
A frappé is a brisk, quick movement with a great amount of energy wich starts with a flexed foot.(i get seriously scolded if i do not do any of the above)
she is leaning on the bar and she is NOT doing a frappe. she is supposed to strike. not the floor exactly, but at least with that kind of energy! she was just doing a tondu from coupe!
i could be wrong..im not a ballet expert or anything..but when you are not in releve, isnt your foot supposed to start flexed on the ankle and strike the floor in point. i thought starting the foot in point at the ankle was only in releve...
well, if you are working on strength, you do coupe. but honestly, in real dance you are right, you only do frappes with a flexed foot to start unless in releve
Seriously!!! They NEED to revise these with professional teachers first before they post this crap. It's not worth people watching if it's not going to teach them how to do it correctly!
i no u all say this is not a frappe and yes she is doing it slightly wrong ive taken ballet for 5yrs as of 2day and what im going to ask is th@ u see the other types of ballet like the russian but u are correct in the original classic american and french it is wrong her foot should be brushing the floor btw any1 who says slap the floor shutup plz u are suposed 2 brush the floor until u must bring it up and change position yes it also meens 2 strike which means u shuld brush the floor w/ a force
her foot could either be flexed or wrapped (pointed) in the coupe position, depending on the style of ballet they are doing. it is not incorrect for her to have her foot like that, although she does not wrap it very well :P
whatever her foot is doing she's still NOT doing a correct Frappe. Frappe means to slap or strike the floor that's the literal translation, and she's just pointing her toe from coupe to tendu!!!
this is not a frappés!!!!! and the arms are just horrible!

correct me if i am wrong but i thought that you were supposed to
start with your feet not pointed but not flexed flexed but in nuetral
position on your ankle and then once your foot comes off your ankle
you point your foot and strike the floor and you should end in a tendu
not automatically going into a tendu but you just end in one i could be
wrong

I'm at Grade 4 ballet and seriously, that was RUBBISH. The frappe movement strikes the floor with the ball of the foot, not point...
And the foot is supposed to be flexed at the neck of the foot (ankle), not pointed.
You should learn proper Classical Ballet if you want to perform in a video...
