  • holy shit

  • 0;54-0:58

within that timeline I feel like there is a little lag, or skip, or chopiness, of the video.

is it just me, or is there something wierd going on with there hands?

  • Wonderful !!!

  • No

  • @celebratingfantasy No what?

  • it was superb!!!!!!!

  • pshh, i can play this...at like, half this speed D:

  • 12 years old? WHAT THE F***???

    That's awesome!!!

  • Dude, everyone was in shock at the end! XD Wonderful playing.

  • Muito bom..!!!

  • i do it much better!!! while im sleaping hahaha

  • this is impossible O__o

  • dang it, i blinked

  • god DAMN. badass!!!!

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang

  • this can't be real. he's way too good

  • what's the size of your cello?

  • it just feels wrong that a 12 year old can play this...

  • Loved that natural harmonic. It gave it something more. Great work :)

  • @chugeo7 doesn't mean the song isn't Baroque.

  • slurring all the notes takes half the fun out of the piece.

    still, nice job.

  • Brilliant!!! Flawless!!! Move over Yo-Yo Ma & make room for Stephane!! Amazing!!!!

  • To anyone that says this piece needs emotion... look up the word "Baroque" and slap yourself. :|

  • @TheExarion rimsky-korsakov was not alive during the baroque period

  • My fingers hurt just watching!

  • you can tell tell it's played by a twelve year old

  • try playing without slurves like david garrett on the violin

  • I hate you for having so much talent! :O

  • this is amazing.

  • how old are you????

  • This is crazy bt @computerdl i agree with you its super crazy it confused me for a sec. bt i hope to accomplish somthing like that one day awesome vid

  • the next YO YO MA

  • Wow he's really clean (his cello playing) I'm a violinist, I was going to learn this piece but I moved on to other pieces instead :( Maybe another time...

  • dude you are really good, congrats

  • It is fascinating to hear this played in the lower register of the cello instead of the violin. This is brilliant.

  • All the work paid off :D. Great stuff!

  • Is that Cello out of tune or something?

  • @SUPPLEANDFIRM you're an ass!!

  • since when can you play first posotion in thumb position? 0:30

  • @computerdl Actually, TECNICALLY, on most of the piece you are supposed to use your thumb. When he repeats the notes that seem to go up and down are pretty much 5 notes and guess what!! You have 5 fingers!!! When I played that song, I didn't use my thumb at all, LOL!

  • @celloprof OH YEAH and normally you are not supposed to slur that piece, BUT there is obviously someone who arranged it that way. The 1st time I saw it slurred, it was on tv where a LARGE group of kids played for DISNEY at Disney world on tv also maybe like 10~ish years ago. They all slurred it like this boy, OH AND they were all around his age. SLURRING THIS PIECE IS MUCH EASIER than not slurring with one bow stroke per note.

  • @computerdl I never really thought about it, I don't see why not

  • @CapriccioMusic Lots of advanced music requires thumb position way up in the neck there. Ever try playing octave double stops in the instrument's low register? Obviously cellists don't use that fingering if they don't need it, but occasionally they do. I guess this is just one of those examples. But I'm just a doublebassist, so I don't know from experience on the cello with this piece. =P

  • @CapriccioMusic you can there's no rule against its, it's easier to since it's a fast piece.

  • @computerdl Since when did cello have rules? xD.

  • @computerdl I totally agree.... I was never tought that in my Private lessons... And I was only toguth to do it only for 3rd position...

  • @computerdl did you never play octaves with the thumb? when you want to play octaves you need the thumb in first position

  • @computerdl. u can play with thumb position in first position, if u have to go in thumb position more down, or if u return from more down..

  • @computerdl. u can play with thumb position in first position, if u have to go in thumb position more down, or if u return from more down..

  • I have the class to bow down after playing a piece, especially when it requires a first, second AND third thumb position (suite no 3 Prelude) and ive only been playing for a year and three months

  • @computerdl Please take a look at the video "TINA GUO: FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE Live"

  • @computerdl..... no one ever said you cant play in thumb position in first... i've done it before.. it just depends on if its more convenient than sliding back and forth between 1/2 and first position... sometimes using the thumb as a fifth finger is way more convenient

  • @computerdl since the invention of the cello.

  • @computerdl It can be done. You just need a really nice thumb callous!

  • @computerdl since freaking paganini, lol

  • @computerdl you can if you're a bamf

  • @computerdl

    When could you not?

Try it sometime, it opens up whole worlds.

  • @computerdl ha ha yes, never yet seen someone who played thumb position in first position! amazing performance though :-)

  • @computerdl since like, ever? for example in Pezzo Capriccioso by Tchaikovsky you use the same technique

  • playing strings like that is awesome! the piano player should be able to improve a lot of aspects through correct posture.

  • Haha. That was crazy awesome.

  • wow (*__*)..they look calm Lol..GOOD JOB!

  • great music i like bumblebees and this piece of music does fit them very well searching for nectar to make honey anyways u guys play great music

    Peace,Love&Joy!

  • OMG he's twelve? amazing (:

  • Terrific. You may take a bow now.

  • I love this song....This is my essay typing background music.....NiceZ

  • Okay...to say that I play the cello would just be an insult to this guy.

  • This is the type of music that inspires my music. Check it out on my youtube channel here: The333rd

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • @tulish08 - Thats like saying playing it on any woodwind, brass, or any instrument you have to blow into and taking this piece and play each note individually and NOT within the same breath. The song is written with slurs and ties within it, thus making him use the same bowing with a dozen or so notes in it. Only the top ranked players in the WORLD play it competantly with individual bowing per note!

  • Wow...

  • Awesome! He's really great!

  • AWESOME i play cello and to see someone go that high on the fingerboard is amazing

  • @klemintine7 I completely agree! This is amazing!

  • this is like multiple hammer ons

  • 5 Stars!! You are fantastic!

  • Great Dynamics indeed, i could hear the Bumblebee fly around, descend and land, then rise again...I think it finally died from exhaustion...Fantastic!...

  • it is VERY easy to play so many notes on 1 bow!!!!!!

try to play it with bow to each note.

(my english is bad excuse me!!!)

  • tulish08: give him a break, he's 12!!!

it's sounds good, he plays fantastic. i'm sure you meant well though :)

  • Why don't you show us how EASY it is?

  • @tulish08 dude ur a bitch

  • Awesome interpretation !

One of my preferred classical musics. Thousand thanxs !! 5 *****

  • Ha, ha! Just wonderful, Stéphane! To think that was 4 years ago, too, when you were only 12! Amazing! Bravo! 5 stars! :)

  • Wow. Amazing.

  • It looks as his fingers move in a different speed from the rest od the video!!! As they work independently from his body, or the man is in fast forward!!! AMAZING!!!Dizzy by the fingers of his left hand!!!

  • GREAT JOB! athough i think if he didnt play that last note longer, it would be better. =)

  • hi Stéphane, happy new year. great video, amazing playing !

  • aw.................

  • As everyone know, not an easy piece.. great dynamics, I can hear the bumblebee flying!

  • congratulations... good job...

  • Great talent.....5*

  • Du bist großartig!

  • his bow control is excellent.

  • That was fantastic! I wish I could play like that! Wow!

  • c'est pas juste il les fait toute lié lol good job pareil!

  • very very impressive.

  • OH-MY-FREAKIN-GOSH!!! dude that was awesome

  • OMFG!!!!! im 13 and ive been playing for 5 yrs and i cant even touch this guy! HE IS AWESOME!

  • oh man you play that cello insanely i have a friend that plays the cello but he's not half as good as you lol jk [[i love you miles]]

  • i can barley move my fingers that fast let alone play anything in tune at those speeds

  • And let's not forget the piano player. Good job!

  • His playing is so good, it depresses me.

    Love it.

  • Brilliant playing, especially considering his age! Very nice fingerwork as well. He could have done more dynamics at the end, but considering how much shifting trouble, fingerwork, and bow control he had to go through, this is superb.

  • I'm so glad for you, you play good, i'll play it next year, although i started this year, i have 14 yr

    but i'm good

  • I am tired of all of you who are criticizing this masterful cellist. He hit all the notes in tune with perfect tone quality and he had nice expression. He coulda put some more dynamic contrast and done some other cool stuff, but this guy is going places and all you criticizers arent. So shut up cuz if half of you haters tried to play this it would sound like garbage. Stéphane Tétreault, u've inspired me to keep practicing the cello so that i play every note as well as you do.

  • amazing for your age!!! i'm only 13 and i can barely even play 3rd position :(

  • good technique. musically, its boring.

yes i know there's not much room for emotion in something like this, but I've seen better.

  • Very excellent technique! Don't like his interpretation very much though.

  • Excellent for a 12 year old child!

Although, there could be a tad more emotion.

  • Emotion? In a piece like this virtually all 16th notes? I don't think so. There's barely enough time to get the notes in tune, let alone put emotion into it. Besides, this piece is almost always looked at as measure of technical ability, not at all as a measurement of emotional prowess.

  • well think of this FourtyTwoLetters is right

would you rather have a robot play or someone that interprets better and puts more emmotion into it

  • Comment removed

  • definitely a measure of technical ability. more a song used to train hand positioning and left hand endurance.

  • idiot, he is 12 yr old and heplay better than u will play at 30

  • he might play it better, but yo yo ma is a professional and an adult. this kid is only 12 and he already kicks ass. by the time he's yo yo ma's age, he's gonna be a complete monster at the cello.

  • @Orchadorkcello Yes, it's not the most popular piece to use rubato with, but why not? Experimentation is music's best friend since the invention of alcohol and corsets, so I would definitely encourage someone who tries to emotionalize a piece that is so little emotive as this which is played in cello and piano, which are instruments of wood and other good smelling materials.

  • @Orchadorkcello uhh....your supposed to put emotion into it.

  • @CelloMusic4ever Its pretty hard thoug, it looked like he was putting emotion in it to me, the way he moved with the notes.

  • @Orchadorkcello Are you kidding me? It's a representation of a story. If you listen closely you can make out everything, the Bee flying across the sky, if you can't play it right, sounds like a T rex.

  • Awesome :)!

  • Thank you !!!

  • beautifull...

  • yea i like it slurred better the seperate bows...

    WELL DONEEE

  • there's some difficult thumb position playing in this piece so he did very well.

  • This piece definitely needs to be spicatto-ish and separated. It's supposed literally mock a bumblebee. No offense to your performance, because it is superb, but slurred sounds like a drunk bee instead of an active angry bee. The version I have also calls for a mute. It's a really cool effect. Great performance though.

  • U CHEATED!!!!!!! it's not supposed to be slurred!!!!! oh, well...

  • yes and no, i agree with u for the most part though.

  • sweet!

  • amazing

  • Wow you guys think this is a better interpretation than Han Na Chang's? Stop smoking because this is nowwhere as deep interpreted as hers. But props this kid has incredible technical skill as well as musically.

  • haha have to agree here - he sort of cheated.. slurring the phrases

  • i don't know what your thinking but I saw so much more emotion in this kid than in Han-Na Chang's. Chang just seems to try and accent to hard on the A string notes which drowns out the other notes in the phrase, while this kid makes his notes hearable. Watch Han-Na Chang's video if you don't believe me.

  • No I agree with Enix5548. The interpretation this kid makes is downright boring (compared to her). The accents DON'T drown out the other notes. I can hear everything clearly when she plays. Han-Na is also MUCH more musical and emotional than this kid and you have no idea. Not to mention that this kid is also more musical compared to other prodigies. Your comment wasn't ignorant but your mind isn't all that mature. Trust me if I went back 7 years I would agree with you.

  • Well, I don't agree with you. It is my own opinion so tough. Have you seen the cello Concerto in E Major by Shostakovich? Now that is awesome.

  • Yeah I know it. Probably one of the best contemporary cello concerto.

  • I think that this kid is good, but he probably lacks emotion. People who practice how their told and dont let their emotions let them play end up not learning the true meaning of playing an instrument. To have fun. He seems like he is one of those people who practice for hours and dont learn a thing. So i guess i agree with you.

  • Well I'm not saying this kid has no emotion. Besides this isn't a very musical piece anyway. I was just pointing out that this interpretation isn't as good as Han-Na's.

  • you're a beast

  • excellent job man!~

but jw~isnt the bowing supposed to be all separtate ur is that just a diff interpretation deal>?

  • slurring makes it easier and give the piece a different tone.

  • you're my hero!

  • oh my god!!! very good!!!!!

better than han-na chang! dude, the twelve year old needs to keep that shit up!!!!

  • wow man, this is amazing!

its so cool how he starts all of a sudden and so does the piano! =P

  • Stunning!!! Very natural move! I agree with nkip9230, i liked this much more than she.

    Well done!

  • no mams increible q a tu edad ya tocas con tanta naturalidad, confianza, musicalidad etc, etc, ....felicidades

  • way better than Han Na Chang's version

    much cleaner.

    bravo on all the Chromatics!

  • holy snapp woaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That is some of the best 'cello playing I have seen in a very long time!

  • holy*&%^%&^% shit

  • muy bien!

  • o.O that was AMAZING!I feel shameful...*sob* I'm still working on my high f# :(

  • hahahahha it'll be alright. I feel shameful too

  • I don't know how you do it but you manage to control dynamics, bow stroke, style and difficult technique simultaneously.

  • all I am going to say is.......damn! That was almost as good as yo-yo ma's version.
