I contacted PBS 2 years ago to see if they were going to show it. I was devastated that they weren't showing it. So I searched everywhere on the internet until I found it on amazon.com on DVD :) I get to watch it again now every Christmas. and I'm in my late 20s now :P

Personally, I think Elmo was more FORCED into the spotlight. Heavy competitors(ie. Barney) were coming around the time the people who made Sesame Street what it was were either retiring(Jon Stone) or passing away(Jim Henson), so the new generation felt they had no choice but to counter all that by pushing the little red guy who was just becoming popular at the time. Say whatever you want, but alot of it IS true.

I Remember Renting This, and It was unbelieveable. I Also Remember singing along to all the songs too. and that is still so sweet of that lil girl teaching Big Bird how to ice skate. I myself had never been ice skateing before, I have'nt even been to an ice skateing rink either. you might think i was a sheltered person when i was younger. I hope when my niece's are older, i'm going to get them to watch this classic sesame street show.

I always thought the fact they used Feliz Navidad at the beginning of this special was pretty cool. The US was finally starting to move a bit towards being tolerant, even joyful, of our differences, but it still was 1978. One of the many reasons I adore Jim Hinson and his awesome since of fairness and love.

PBS used to show this every holiday season when they had their donation drive! I showed it to my kids (I have it on VHS) and all they could say was "where's Elmo???" Ugh, Sesame sure has gone downhill since the 70's ;(
