  • i hate it how the treat the women!!!!!!! They are like dolls or objects

  • What a beautiful story <3

  • this is one of my favorite movies but i do not find it romantic at all if anything the way the women are treated in this film disgusts me. the majority of it they are either slaves or pretty things owned by men, even though ive looked i only see a pale reflection of any form of love.

  • I wish relationships nowadays were this romantic and sweet.

  • I love this movie so much!

  • can anyone plz tell me where is this scene taken? it is so beautiful i almost cried

  • @flipballaz93

If I recall correctly, it was filmed in a park in San Francisco, CA. The vast bulk of the out door scenes in this movie were shot in San Francisco or Los Angeles, CA. The Tea House in the movie is a real operating tea house (based on a Kyoto design) and was built in Los Angeles in the early 1900's. The opening scenes were filmed in Japan. The train and dye works were located near Sacramento, California.

  • @AQuietNight domo arigato gozaimasu

  • @flipballaz93

    Do itashi mashite

  • i wished the kissing would have been better and looked real and not like here let me rub my make-up off on you xD

  • @xxangelsbloodxx Lol I though I was the only thinking like that

  • well, i'm not crying ... i just have tears in my eyes

  • I love this movie!!!

  • I fell in love with this movie :'>

  • Wounder what happend too her sister .. :/

  • @4evernadja it tell how it ends in the book with her sister, but I dont have it with me to look it up. I think (if I remember it correctly) she married some farmer or something like that back in her home village.

  • @angelfox101 Okay , Thanks :)

  • @4evernadja She ran away with a boy from their village. Chiyo never saw again.

  • This is not how the book ends.

  • i just read it in a book.. im glad i found it.. hehehe. really great movie, i love it ^_^

  • Wow that was such an amazing movie, glad I found the time to sit down and watch it. I've heard nothing but praise from people who have watched it and now I see why. Thankyou for uploading it :]

  • You cannot say to the sun, "More sun." Or to the rain, "Less rain." To a man, geisha can only be half a wife. We are the wives of nightfall. And yet, to learn kindness after so much unkindness, to understand that a little girl with more courage than she knew, would find her prayers were answered, can that not be called happiness?

  • MOST AWKWARD KISS

  • :,)

  • Must...Not...Cry....

  • Beautiful!:')))

  • John Williams should have received the Oscar for the emotional and beautiful score he wrote for this movie. This score is just as perfect as his scores to E.T, Schindlers List and Star Wars.

  • Beautiful story. <3

  • I think this film has the best score John Williams has ever written.. and that's saying something.

  • What's the first piece of music played during credits?

  • I love this movie so I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I'm just simply statin that the end, if this were an american movie, they woul say I love you and then just make out lol. Though I prefer it this way, it's so much more romantic. Ken watanabe and Zhang ziyi are amazig

  • One of my all time favorites!

  • "In that moment, I changed from a girl, facing nothing but emptiness to someone with purpose " any purpose guided by love is noble!!! never too late to tell the truth!

I'm really bedazzled by the powers of water !

  • I love how in the book she says that this kiss with the Chairman is the most intimate moment of her life. So romantic.

  • thank you for loading this film. It was a very pleasant experience viewing this beauty.

  • this movie never gets old... i cry almost everytime i see it..... ^-^ its so good!!

  • i love how real their kissing is, it isnt like the sexy hollywood kissing, it looks like how someone would actually kiss which makes all the more amazing x3

  • Great movie!

  • Thank you for sharing the movie. I read the book years ago but didn't get a chance to watch the film. Thanx once again.

  • i have never seen an asian with blue eyes. coolio!

  • so do they get married or do they just say that they love each other and she just continues to be a geisha and he becomes her patron?

  • @dashpony1048

Well he's technically already married so he becomes her patron. In the book it goes on to explain how, due to the situation with Nobu, Sayuri had to retire as a geisha because the Chairman could not risk Nobu finding out about them and causing damage to their business relationship.

  • These r memoirs of another kind..

    These r memoirs of a geisha :)

The only..movie i can watch like..

    OVER N OVER again~

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH. T^T this ending gets to me everytime.

  • haha i know all the words to the ending, thats how bored i am.

  • This film is based on a book written by an American man. Arthur Golden interviewed Mineko Iwasaki on the understanding that he would not reveal her identity. He then went on to credit her in his book. This lead to death threat against Iwasaki for breaking the Geisha code of silence. Once outed she went on to write her own version of her life which is apparently less about victimhood and sex and more about art and female strength. I would recommend people read THAT version.

  • He fell in love with her when she was 9 years old. Does anyone else find this really creepy!?

  • @LaraDing !_! yes i do~.. i find it creepy.. But in another way touching -.-.. Like really touching!~ <3

  • wow. watching it for the second time now in my life...still just as breathtaking! i just cant get over how beautiful and somber her story is...so haunting

  • @rikkiloveable: Iwamura Ken. :) It's in the book, which I think is even better than the movie.

  • you knew i was that little girl?

    Me:.....DUUH!

what other girl had her eyes at the time?

  • at one piont in the end i thought the little girl was going to trip on her shoe clog things and eat it!!!

  • @2.30 u can see the innocence in her eyes just like the lil girl

  • How is he a pedophile, she's in her 20's by this point. They weren't reunited til like 5 years after the war. Watch the movie again and pay attention to the time line.

  • does anyone else think they should have just hugged at the end? I mean its kinda weird she was just a kid like not long ago

  • @CDMac09 yeahhhh i found it...not exactly sweet to watch the kissing scene

  • ken watanabe~:3

  • ... what a pedophile.

  • I'm so happy they ended together, unrequiented love is probably the saddest of all human tragedies

  • @littlelatina123 have you read the book? even though they got together the end was really sad :((

  • @littlelatina123 You should read the book. The ending isn't as happy but its still good.

  • does any body know any other good books like memoirs of a geisha?

  • I really loved Hatsumomo...don't know why, there was just something about her. Great actress too.

  • This is real love...

  • i didn't like this. The book is soo much better!!

  • Perfect ending!!!

  • I love this movie, and the book. But he's like 50 YEARS OLDER THAN HER. D:

  • @XbluejuiceXx not 50. when she was 12 the chairman was around mid thirties.. around 20 years. yeah it's still a bit weird O_O

  • @XbluejuiceXx Yeah it's pretty gross and creepy, but if you hide the gross & creepy under a beautiful heart-wrenching love story that somehow makes it acceptable.

  • "Can't you see? Every step I have taken, (since I was that child on the bridge)

Has been to bring myself closer to you."

    Classic <3

  • i liked this movie, its quite touching and am a person who usually never watch and hate asian films

just hoped something else would have been mentioned about her sister though that part is also kinda touching, its not a boring princess movie but something more interesting d first am hearing of a geisha and its very interesting

  • at the end, she still can't be with him, right? since she's a geisha?

  • @erickav808 in the book, he becomes her danna.

  • @erickav808 in the book she becomes his danna and she quits her job as a geisha and

they eventually move to America where she opens a tea shop and the chairman ends up

dying of old age. Apparently they have a kid together.

  • Awesome movie, thanks for doing all this work!

  • y do the older men always get "some" from younger ladies? O.o its kinda wrong she was a child when he bought her ice, then she lives happily ever after with a guy like 30 years older than she? interesting....

  • @ImaBearXD Technically she became his mistress. The Chairman is married.

  • Ken Watanabe is HOT

  • Its so beautifull...why am I not crying?! T^T

  • It's like the end of a Korean Soap Opera! Cheesy and beautiful!

  • Sad+a beautiful story!

  • Beautiful story

  • That was a great movie

  • That was a very good film, a really nice ending i love the narration at the end and the music for the credits.

I understand why it wasn't popular in Japan they were really pissed because the director used chinese actresses, fair enough their a very proud people. In China they banned it outright. But why was it met so negatively by western critics, well whatever normal people liked it it won numerous awards so screw them.

  • @JuliaLovesBumble If I recall the book correctly, he was already married. In the book, they stayed together and she was the equivalent of a beloved mistress. Forgive me if I am mistaken though, it's been years since I have read the book.

  • I cried so much in the end.... Dear John, the Notebook, and all those other movies have not received as much tears as these I have shed.

  • sad

  • Her dreams are fulfilled; it is a perfect ending.

  • thanks for uploading that!

  • My first time watching this. I loved it.

  • I always thought that geisha were queens themselves. Queens of art, queens of talent, and queens of an ancient sort of beauty that the world seems to have forgotten.

  • man this is sad, in the old days Asian lovers hid their emotions, perhaps due to restraints of dogma or society and family values. But, what it leads to, is permanent and treasurable love, in other words, divorce, which is widespread in the rest of the world, is impossible.

  • i love this movie <3 awesome ending that always seems to make me cry tears of joy !

  • I don't know whether to say the book or the movie was better.... all I know is both are AMAZING! X3 I just finished the book yesterday to =D But it was a bit of a let down how some of the parts were taken out- I really wanted to see Pumpkin lick the ground on their way to class xD it would'a been funny..... but I don't think they should've gave Nobu back his arm (xD that sounds funny) and they didn't mention Nobu's nickname, 'Mr.Lizard'........

  • @xxxAnimexxxFreekxxx

i just started reading the 6th chapter. which would you prefer though,

the book or the movie? (:

  • @CupcakeAuslyn Hm~...... I think maybe the book, but I think that's because during almost the whole movie it seemed to have sort of a gloomy atmosphere. But like I said, both of them are rea~lly good and ended up making me cry at some points ^^

  • 3:00 - 3:03

This moment reminds me of scene form "The Last Samurai" when Katsumoto cries over his son. When I was watching "Memoir Of Geisha" for the first time, I felt of deja vu during that scene :P

  • @konrad8806 Well, it is the same actor :D. Ken Watanabe is the greatest!

  • @eldyyy90

    I know ;D

  • My sound craped out on me for this last part. I had to guess what they were saying. D:<

  • omg that was so beautiful...

i was really crying at the end and im not much of a romantic...

brilliant film one of the best iv seen...the book must be fantastic...amazing!

  • This movie has made me cry... especially this last part.... awww Chiyo :')

  • Well the book is much more nice to read as some of the crucial parts of the story are pruned.

  • What's the name of the song playing when they start hugging?

  • aww...that's so sweet :') suyuri and the chairman make a cute couple....im 14...i gotta admit....in a way that chairman turned me on... :O cause he so kind and keeper? yeahh.......weird....but awesome movie!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song that plays at the credits?

  • @tearlly "The Chairman's Waltz"

  • lol we don't even know the chairman's real name

  • @sparkyblossom

We do Mameha says it when she brings Sayuri to the Sumo match. His name is Ken Iwamura (his surname is most certainly the same as in the book but I am not sure about his first name). He owns the company Nobu and he work for, hence Iwamura Electric.

  • @sparkyblossom It's Iwamura Ken

  • @sparkyblossom Isn't his name Ewa Muraken. Mameha (or how ever you spell it) said it before they went to the sumo match! :D but maybe I'm wrong....

  • @sparkyblossom it's Iwamura Ken. Read the book. ;)

  • i cant believed id actually finished it!!

    haha

    AWESOME

  • best movie ever........ all i can say

  • Awww I'm so happy she ended up with the chairman! ♥

    so beautiful!!

  • thank you for uploading this movie ronnie.. you don't know how greatful i am.. ive been trying to find a dvd or cd of this movie and too bad i cant find any.. so thanks! <3

  • awkward kiss. let's be honest.

  • watched for the fourth time, cant get enough of this movie...so amazing...be strong Japan.

  • thanks so much for the uploads! I want now to purchase blue lenses to be asian with blue eyes like Sayuri XD i'm jealous of her eyes *-* never saw a full asian with colored eyes unless they were mixed. :/

  • @HarajukuBarbieLov haha yeah.

  • It is a good movie, but the book is still better, the movie left out a lot of parts...

  • @Vanessasmydog yeah but the movie's long though, they couldn't make it last 4 hours!

both are awesome and so beautiful!!

  • @EscapeTheFateXFIR Yeah, I love them both

  • @HarajukuBarbieLov she ran away with a boy from her village, and nobody heard from her again.

  • I love this movie and couple but everytime she says "u knew i was that little girl" i think no crap when was the last time u saw another chick with blue eyes... whatever too cute :)

  • such a beautiful movie :)

  • Just finished watching it after wanting to see it for a looong time.. Omg I teared up. I was seriously saying, "Please please omg forgive him! kiss kiss!" >.<*

    and they did :')

Such a beautiful movie! thank u so much for uploading<3

  • Love the movie and I lOVE happy endings

  • This was So Beautiful !

  • it's a beautiful story...but sad at the same time..

  • This movie is beautiful... what else to say it?

  • wow im glad she ended up wit the chairman

  • it's so weird how the main character is not Japanese, and It's a movie with the focus of Japan and Japanese culture

  • @AmaiEmikoChan what is she?

  • @miriamlovesit7 She's chinese

  • @AmaiEmikoChan yeah i thought that they should have cast more Japanese actresses especially the main character so it makes more sense because the movie IS focused on Japanese culture! but i still think Ziyi Zhang was beautiful and did a good job :)

  • @Thejpopkpopcraze Yes I agree she did do a great job at it.

  • 2:30 how beautiful she is!!!

  • ummm...she becomes what? his wife? his mistress?

  • anyone else finding it kinda pedofilish that this man waiting for a child to grow up old enough for him to be with her?? lol i can see him in the back ground as shes becoming a geisha rubbing his hands together evily going "yes...YES!!!" hehehe

  • yo yo ma....your cello made the movie

  • yea, so wonderful i cried about a cheating man and his mistress...>__>"

  • Sayuri's dream came true when she had lost all hope. Makes me think a lot. This movie is so beautiful and the end is so sweet and romantic, I cry each time!

also... i just realised Memoirs of a Geisha is my favourite movie :)...

  • Guys, count how many times Sayuri says "I do not understand" in this movie...She says it in almost every part of this video series XD lol

  • People keep saying this is all pedophile and such, the relationship between the Chairman and Sayuri/Chiyo. But in my opinion, love is love and age is just a number. You can't help you who fall in love with -- and I think their relationship is beautiful, despite the age gap.

I cried a little at the end :') A very sweet ending.

  • @anneres I TOTALY AGREE WITH YOU

  • the nickname i thought of for the guy i like is 'chairman'... because i don't know his name

  • huh?the end thats all?....oh well time to watch anime^^....

  • Sayuri is fucking hot man...

  • isnt it creepy how she loves a like 50-year old, and isnt the guy married with kids

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you.(:

  • I LOVE' love this movie.(((((:

  • At the end she should have said "...These are memories of another kind... Memories of a geisha" XDD

    Loooove the movie :)))

  • @MsDziedzic LOOL that would have been funny xD

And it is a great movie. =)

  • @MsDziedzic I was thinking the exact same thing!!!!

  • @MsDziedzic its not memories...its memoirs

  • @MsDziedzic i completely agree! i think that every time i watch this

  • @MsDziedzic lol i thought she was going to say that but she didn't.

  • @MsDziedzic Too cheesy if she said that

  • @MsDziedzic She actually saying Memoirs . . . not memories.

  • WHAT ABOUT THE ENDING IN NEW YORK :'( :'(

awh the film missed out so much.........

  • I luv this movies, best movie ever and the guy who put it up did a great job cause its the whole movie, luv it so much, got it in my collection

  • you can tell she got so wet When she saw him...

  • The movie is just as beautiful as the book

  • Great movie X3

  • I don't see pedo anything in this movie :|

All I see is a confused, and once country girl turn into a beautiful and enchanting geisha, finally with he man she wanted to be with.

He probably helped her out when she was a kid because he felt sorry for her.

Kinda like the kind of story mapmysoul5 has.

If it was pedo, Chiyo would be at least 9-12, in a van, tied up.

  • what can I say: being a Giesha must've been very hard, I've started the book and there's much more to the story than this, you can only cram so much in a 2 hour window. Still, each actor and actress were wonderfully picked, like Hatsemoto, Chios arch enemy. She's been in many American films, really good at being a B.I.T.C.H. I wonder...were contacts used for Chios blue eyes?

  • Outstanding!! Great movie!
