  • God I love it!!

  • if Cherelle had this arrangement, It would have been better to me. BUT I LOVE THIS ONE...

  • This sound was way ahead of its time, I love it....although I'm not sure how I'd react if a guy actually said this to me...lol

  • @MyDream2Nite That was my reaction when it was released...didn't know if I should enjoy the song or be offended...lol

  • Robert Palmer did to this song what Aretha Franklin did to "Respect". They both didn't sing those songs originally, but they rocked it!

  • Why did you leave us Robert?

  • Love this song! Robert Palmer, love you! RIP.

  • this song became my theme song after i bought my first Wolf Shirt.

  • That suit from 2:43 looks a bit Jarvis Cocker-esque!

  • Sounds like porno music.

  • Yea, this song is pretty much my life story. Chicks can't get enough of me and unfortunatlely for them I'm a cool cat and faithful to Rosie and her Five Sisters so I play this song for them and they get the hint.

  • Robert Palmer is a boss...simple.

  • this is the same line i've been trying to tell women that can't take a hit, "I'm sorry, Miss, but just like the title of the song says, I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON!!!"

  • One of the greatest concerts i have ever seen was Mr Palmer in Sept. 1988. The man came out in this shark skin suit and just blew the place up. Rest in peace to one of the coolest persons ever to walk the planet.

  • one of the all-time great white soul voices, i'm glad he got some commercial success in the second half of his career, this is one of his really good dance songs, written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Rest in Peace Robert

  • @kclemon2007 It was originallly written and produced by Jam and Lewis for r n b female singer Cherelle in 1984 !

  • @phade2blaq Cool, thanks, I did not know that!

  • @phade2blaq Come to think of it, it has got that sexy Minneapolis sound!

  • the women in the slicked back hair and the black dresses make this video...and those women squatting and dancing....bring up the original video....BUT a huge thanks for giving us the origina (and only) version of this song. Robert Palmer rocks. RIP Bob...

  • The late, great Robert Palmer. Talented and so cute.

  • Ah good .

  • Thank you for your post. Those mixes are so disappointing. You rule.

  • my mom gave me a really weird look when i was singing this in the house :S

  • Both versions of this song are great.......Cherelle's and Robert Palmer's.....just depends what mood you're in for either song - like them both equally!

  • @PGFNJ79

And that's the truth. I find myself listening to both whenever i play them.

  • You can't fuck with Robert Palmer.

  • @PrinceOfCicero - best post ever

  • @chrish1028 Thanks, chrish. :D

  • @PrinceOfCicero But he really turns me on! Even if he didn't mean to!

  • Finally, the original of this fantastic song. Thanks for posting.

  • I love you for posting the original song! <3

  • This was theme song....lol

  • One of the most coolest voiced and sharp-dressed men ever in the music scene during the 80's, and then some years later... miss you, sir, wish you was still here charming and swooning the socks (and whatever else there is) off of women, and setting the standards for timid gentlemen everywhere... thank you, Mr. palmer, may you rest in peace.

  • @odiemodie1 He and Bryan Ferry were two of a kind, always well dressed and very smooth in their deliveries of songs, RIP Robert and keep it going Bryan

  • @odiemodie1 The True king of rock.

  • I don't want to hurt you guys, but this song is the cover to Cherelle's - I didn't mean to turn you on! .... I remember it like if it were yesterday... But this cover is great, if not better than the original... Just 2 different styles...

  • Love this!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the original!!!!!

  • IF I TOLD, YOU TWICE, I WAS ONLY TRYINTO BE NICE!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!R.I.P. MR PALMER!!!

  • I remember roller skating to this song at Skate Deopt in Lakewood, CA. This song is still good. =)

  • love this remix of cherrelles hit, rest in peace robert palmer!

  • yeah , the original was by cherrelle in 1984.

  • why would anyone remix this?

  • looks like 11 people were dissapointed they werent turned on

  • Why are all these comments saying original version when he is covering Cherrelle's song? His version isn't bad. I'm just sayin.

  • @justkhail because there's a remix out there of him doing this song and it just doesn't sound the same...

Love this version. Thanks for posting.

  • Robert Palmer's death was a huge loss to the music industry . He is extrememly missed. I loved his sultry voice.. and the girls..they made his videos.. such a young age too.

    ]

  • @cindygibbsbarfield I know I'm late with this but, he died - when?

  • @utubegirl Robert Palmer died on 26 September 2003 of a heart attack in Paris.

  • @superALable OMG, I had no idea that man was dead - let alone that he died nearly 10 yrs. ago.

  • Somebody call the fire station because this is HOTT

  • Nothing HOTTER then La Roux

  • Nothing HOTTER then La Roux

  • but Mr. Palmer you make it so hard not to get turned on...

  • After I heard this song, a single hair grew on my chest.

  • 26 de setiembre: A 8 años de su muerte. R.I.P.-

  • CHERRELLE'S VERSION IS MORE FUN TO LISTEN TO AND THE VIDEO IS MORE FUN TO WATCH.

  • I had a crush on Robert Palmer. Love this song

  • Maybe I am in the minority on this but I think both Cherrelle's version and this one sound good. The production is flawless. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis right? Their production is the gold standard.

  • he's so damn sexy!!!

  • this man was one of the strong forces in turning mtv into a legit format....before him...it was just long haired WHOAmen and strippers....He brought some class to MTV.

  • sorry cherrelle .. now that i'm older and wiser .. i like his version better lol

  • Smoooothe!

  • Smoooothe!

  • I saw him in Boston-they had to keep the women from jumping up on the stage-it was like the Beatles-they couldn't get enough of him. He was killer---RIP.

  • didnt cherelle do it first?

  • @marvinw70809 yes!!! I dont know why people are trying to lie and say this guy did it first its not even as good as cherelle's its not horrible but not that good either lol cherelle makes ya wanna dance...this one not so much

  • sorry Robbie... too late!

  • I always thought this was sung by a black guy.

  • @BrownanDownable there is a version sung by a black woman..

  • @MiaVitaBella Cherelle

  • @BrownanDownable So did I.

  • So let me get this straight, Robert Palmer takes some woman out for some sort of casual dinner and in the process of just being fucking Robert Palmer gets her ready to go. He takes her home and she's like lets do this and he's like, whoa, my bad baby I didn't mean to turn you on. I guess what I'm trying to say why can't I be Robert Palmer, the guys an A-1 panty peeler. He passed away in 2003 and he's still the pimpest guy on fucking planet.

  • WoooooooooooooooooooooWWWWWW!!!!

I had forgotten this song! Fantastica!

  • missed the beep beep sound before it comes on

  • I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON (ALBUM VERSION)- CHERRELLE

  • I think Mystery Science Theater 3000 said it best:: "Ever since Robert Palmer introduced the concept of accidental turn-ons in his song 'I didn't mean to turn you on', there's been a lot of involuntary on-turning going on around here..."

  • Robert Palmer turns me on

  • Great song!!!!!

  • Thank you for this!

  • Tiroote qe Mee di Para Encoontraarla :D LaaAmoo!!!!

  • After "Hyperactive", this is my fav song on the Riptide album. Very funky & rhythmic song.

  • as i said before : SO EROTIC AND SEXY! :)

  • "Didn't mean to turn you on" = ?? Huh, really? WELL, from 00:00 to 03:45 is such a turn on. And I am already turned on (like I always do but this time extra more than usual)!! Haha........ :D

  • THIS MAN HAD SOUL!

  • Great video thanks for sharing it with others.

  • This song reminds of a guy I only had one date with. It was one of the worst dates of my life. He only wanted one thing from me and was pissed when I refused.

  • I thought DJ Colette wrote this track. ha

  • Alan hit #2 in Billboard, 11-8-86. IMHO, I still think Cherrelle Norton did the best version. God bless ya, for postin' this 1. RIP, Alan.

  • The title of this song is really funny :)

  • The original and best as usual. These beats always get bit and remade!

  • Robert Palmer the golden standard of having Class and Talent !

  • This is a great version! RIP Palmer.

  • hmm....nobody mentioning vice city?

ill put on here then. xP

  • It's the same old shit when a girl tells a guy "no I wasn't gonna fuck you tonight"

but when RP sings it well it's so much cooler right? it's like, he walks her back to her upper east side apartment and she's like "what? you're not coming in?" HAHAHAHA

  • Tony Thompson!

  • Some remixes do mess up the song, the original is always best....great find and a sad day for music on his passing.RIP Robert.

  • @Goldmind57 Cherrelle's version ok I'll give you that. Mariah's version, PLEASE (and I like her music).

  • I Love Robert Palmer's original version! This is hot! That bass line is thick! I love it!

  • @EatinCactus NOT original. Cherelle did this song one year before Palmer.

  • @aislesoffiles I think they meant the original mix of the song because there are quite a few remixes to Robert Palmer's version.

  • @aislesoffiles Who cares? It's still good!

  • @aislesoffiles Exactly. And, earlier this yr., for the very first time I just found out that Cherelle originally did this song. For 25 yrs., I thought Palmer's version was original. How sad is that? Anyway, I was only 6 yrs. when this song came out. lol But,... you must admit, Palmer's version was so much funkier.

  • @EatinCactus Palmer's version isn't the original. It came out way after the original.

  • @pikokinha LMFAO!!!!! I would of said the exact same thing.

  • I'm sorry but I prefer the original by Cherrelle and the remake by Mariah Carey over Robert Palmer's version. Cherrelle and Mariah's cover just oozed with sex appeal and playfulness while this one comes across as cold and uneventful. But it is interesting hearing a man sing it.

  • @Goldmind57 I disagree. I'm very familiar with the others, which are also good. Robert made this song his. Musically, far more talent and quality in this version.. just listen to the bass line! Also check out Robert Palmer and James Brown.. "I feel good good live" what talents! :)

  • I prefer this version to the orginal by cherrelle. great song writting by jj and tl.

  • @pikokinha the sad part is, i never promised him that id see him again!! we both are married to different people!!

  • @pikokinha this song brings an ache to my heart because instead of me holding onto someone, someone without realizing it has been holding onto memories of us.... i feel guilty, cuz i started talking to him without realizing it, and now hes all hyped up over seeing me again.. what a mess!!

  • God, I love a man in a suit. DAMN!

  • Good job Robert Palmer......

  • OMG Mr. Palmer. RIP 2004 :-(

  • i love this song

  • I wish I was sexy enough to say that to the ladies. "Sorry, I didn't mean to turn you on."

  • @VidVoyeur612 ah low self esteem, how d you know you didnt, women arent always that forward to acknowledge a reaction

  • @VidVoyeur612 me too,but im fat,bald,toothless and ugly

  • Robert Palmer was one sexy dude.

  • Tired of Vevo too.

  • I remember the show 'Moonlighting' doing an opening sequence with this song as the backdrop...so sleek and classy...even to 4 or 5 year old me at the time :o)

  • been lookin for this for awhile now i want this song for my ringtone

  • Tired of stupid remixes? Well you're in luck. HELL YEP, DUDE YOU ARE A HERO.

  • i dedicate this song to all the (straight married men) that come see me lol. but cant admit to themselves the truth, sorry but i didnt mean to turn your stupid ass on! lol

  • great cover of Cherrelle's classic.

  • yes agreed

  • yes. ty

  • This song, although the original Robert Palmer version, isn't an original: it was a cover of the original artist, Cherrelle.

This is about as good an arrangement as you're going to hear in pop music. Robert Palmer, hit or miss, was awesome.

  • Every era has its gold... But lets get real : Good music post 2000 is damn scarce! Its like people where just ready to dance in the 80s. Now its just Rihanna and pitbull ripping off house music :(

  • it took me forever to find this song and download it. i remember listening to this when i was a kid. my dad was a dj an so i grew up on real music, phil collins, robert palmer, ready for the world, full force, earth wind and fire, the commadors. 80's music still gets the job done.

  • @BigTymeDancer same here, i get made fun of tho... since im 14 & im stuck in the 80s era of music. Oh well tho, 80s music rockkks!!

  • Robert was just too smooth with this song. Cherrelle did it first, but Robert Palmer smoked it. And then made a boss video to go with.

  • sexy....sexy.....,and yes he did mean to turn us on!!!

  • O _O OMG the music back in the day is hella better >:/ none of this auto tuned bulshit.... >:O IM TALKINg TO YOU Thuglificent !!!! FUCKIN UP MAN

    ! FUCKIN UP .....

  • What happens when you mix Prince and Ready for the World? You get Robert Palmer "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On"

  • Love both versions, but think the gaudy, blue eyed soul/funk of Palmer makes it slightly cooler. I know, very un-hipster to prefer the re-make....save it.

  • @pikokinha

    :-)

  • The original song was done by Cherrelle ,I also love this version.R.I.P. brother.

  • Pisses me off that I can't find the video that shows Palmer singing with his models dancing in the back ground. I used to have it. Damn!!

  • @iappreciategoodmusci "Addicted To Love" maybe?

  • WAIT tho...this song is from Riptide, NOT Heavy Nova.

  • i like it...

  • I love the funk sound of the original, but I prefer Mr. Palmers voice. I think his version has more soul. Yeah I said it, the white guy sang with more SOUL! That's how I feel.

  • @yorkpatties I agree! RP had some real soul - it makes no difference about the color! Both versions got their own brand of Funk tho...Cherrelle had Jam & Lewis Minneapolis Funk, while this one has Bernard Edwards Chic Funk!

  • Love the big bass lick at 2:23

  • The embodiment of cool and style...RIP Robert

  • Robert Palmer does Jam & Lewis. Very Interesting.

  • i like this a lot more than addicted to love. i always did.

  • this is far and away superior to the original. he does it so much better.

  • Take "Original Version" off the title, and I'll be able to enjoy this.

  • @bluemonkjd

    Why?

  • @superALable Technically, this isn't the original version. The original version was sung by Cherrelle, and was on her album "Fragile". Robert Palmer and also Mariah Carey remade the song in their own styles.

  • @superALable because this isn't the original version, this is actually a cover of the female singer Cherrelle. He just popularized it. Check it out here: /watch?v=k5DZOm5ohkg

  • @superALable

The "original" song was done by Cherrelle. Robert's version is a cover. But I like both versions :)

  • @itman74

I know that. "ORIGINAL SONG" is referring to the actual song by Robert Palmer, not a horrid remix of it.

  • @itman74

    Agreed!

superAlable it Cherelle that introduced this song; written by Alexander O'Neal. Do your home work and get it right. Re-title you posting- Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On (Rendition)

  • @jam0to9

    I KNOW THAT.

This is the original PALMER song, NOT A REMIX OF ROBERT PALMER'S 'I Didn't mean to Turn you On".
