anyone know how this was done. I know how to do it with lemon juice and heat but this seems to have a different effect to that with a slightly darker colouring.

Cool. You can also do it with lemon juice or a tooth pick or crayon. Lemon juice requres heat. For the tooth pick just write message on paper and run under water until the message appears. Foe crayon write it on the paper in white crayon and go over it with blac. Scrtch off the black then, and you have the message.
