Life forms surviving in antartica in the ice and below the sea on volcanic vents prove that life is very adaptable, europa's thick ice crust should be sufficient to protect any potential life from radiation. That's the theory from earth based life anyway.
There may or may not be life in Europa's Ocean.. but if not, why don't we just 'create' alien life. It may sound a bit crazy, but I do think it would be achievable given careful planning. Take a few of Earth's sea creatures and fish, organisms, and under water plants. Put them in a shuttle and send them down into Europa's Ocean. Then let them roam free, and they will start to adapt and evolve differently to how they would on Earth, eventually creating entire new species unique to Europa
@BipBapCam Exactly! If it has water, we should take some of our own organisms and take them there and let them evolve! We have taken an organism into space before to see its reaction and it survived!
We can do it but almost certainly, there will already be some form of life within Europas Ocean. I also don't see why we need chemical energy(heat) for life just b/c we discovered that to be the case in our ocean. Before we thought we absolutely needed sunlight for life. We don't know!
No. Besides the fact that the surface temperature averages about 110 K (−160 °C; −260 °F) at the equator and only 50 K (−220 °C; −370 °F) at the poles, there's radiation from Jupiter to deal with. So, if anything, humans would have to live beneath the ice. Check Wikipedia for more.
I find it very curios that NASA is showing no interest in Europa even doe they say they are looking for life & liquid water on other planets. It is like looking for gold & not seeing the mountain of it right beside you. Al this decades & the billions of dollars they spend, they couldn't spare something for a simple probe.
NASA is either dumb or they know something & are not telling or they are dumb.
Lets just hope that if they do send a probe to investigate that the ocean isn't as deep as scientists suggest, we can barely explore our own oceans at depths more than a few miles, yet it's believed that the ocean of Europa could be as deep as 60 miles.
@Nanotech92 Tidal stress. Europa is in a elyptical orbit around Jupiter, which brings it closer in and further out. The entire moon gets stretched when it gets close, and "unstretched" when getting further away. It's like bending a paperclip many times, it heats up. Now imagine an entire moon stretching. It creates enough heat to melt the water under the ice crust.

If a probe was sent to Europa, it would be right up there with the moon landings, the entire world would be watching with baited breath to see what lies beneath. People not normally interested in thigs such as this would be glued to the tv!
Europa orbits within the intense radiation belt of Jupiter, any human there would die within 30 minutes. That being said, the possibility of complex life is minimal. There ARE some organisms however that are highly resistant to radiation. Such as cockroaches. Perhaps we will find aquatic alien cockroaches? I think it more likely any life there will be microbial in nature. In fact, the only one of jupiters major moons that DOESN'T orbit within the radiation belt is Calisto.
Amazing...great video. Stumbled on this as I was looking for a video about Titan as I just watched a BBC program about that here in Holland. Really amazing facts.

@Logopolist the surface temperature of this planet is -160C degrees and -220C in poles. how could life exist in such temperatures? the reason that there is liquid water is bcz of the gravitational tidal forces of Jupiter.
@SpecterDARKEN Agree very little chance life can exist on the surface or Europa, however under the frozen surface is an ocean of water warmed. Just as life exists deep on Earth's ocean floor, we will find that life exists there too. The frozen surface shields the moon from harmful radiation, just like our own atmosphere does. See recent issue of the Journal Nature for highlights. Nature 479, pp502 to pp505 24 November 2011. I am writing paper as well on subject.
There is no water on Europa. The "cracks" are sinuous rilles carved by electric discharges from the plasma torus around Jupiter. Similar discharges are machining the surface of Io and many of Jupiter's other moons.

i had a rough idea about the atmosphere of Europa, but i recently came across discovery channels "into the universe with Stephen Hawking" where he talks about aliens and how Europa is one of the biggest contender for having some form of life present beneath the surface and his talk motivated me to gather some more interesting facts about this truly amazing moon. Great Video AggManUK!!...Keep it up!!
Strange how NASA, over the years, has spent so much money rolling around Mars desperately trying to find trace amounts of water and fossilized microbes- and yet is not even considering a mission to Europa.
@seeifthisoneworks Mission to mars is one thing, it's alot closer and don't have a gigantic planet with a massive gravital tug which makes it very hard to make anything go where we would want it to. I am very sure we would send something there if we could, but maybe they feel it would be unsuccessful or the risk is not in good standing. I have no clue, but seriously i wish i was born in a time when we were at space age, i love astronomy and i am very curious on what is out there.
If humans break troo europas ice we may find primitive lifeforms. pat the iceis thoo masive to dril, melt or break . teraforming this moon if impossible
life is very muck possible on that planet! the only thing is that it's way to cold out there. if you warm it up to 20 C' it will be just like earth! it will grow bigger becose now it is -273,5 C' so its very small now.
we should exiouly track it in the same circle as te earth is spinning around the sun now! (its gonna be inpossible!)
I think under the ice is very deep oceans of liquid water, maybe 100km deep! imagine that! soon we will know the truth and it will spark the brain of the closed minded people
There is a Europa Jupiter System Mission proposed, which would launch in 2020 and explore Jupiter's moons. This should answer for certain whether Europa, Ganymede and Callisto have oceans, and there may even be a lander on Europa
apparantly from what i know, when our sun expands to the stage of a red giant (where the sun is about to explode and die) or some how spontanously become bigger and hotter or smothing our planet will not be in the zone perfect for humans. At that time europa will be perfect, also known as the goildlocks cus its not too hot or too cold ;)
@SuperDears Yes, yes, yes!. When You fly by Europe moon u can heared that magnificent, divine music!. That pictures are from the NASA. It's real!. ;) ... Congratulations for the AggManUK. Really MAGNIFICENT movie and series!. I'm constantly go back to watch this one!.
Thank you so much for posting all of these great videos. They really do represent hope for life. I don't know why they are planning another trip to the moon. Sure they may have found water there, but I believe that exploring Europa is one of the highest priorities for humans. I mean, if there is a liquid water ocean/hydrothermal vents in there, we should not waste ANY time exploring it. I am only 12 yet your videos are more interesting than any videos I have seen in my life. Thank you AggManUK!
@LafrankyDanky The future of space exploration lies in the hands of your generation! It's just wonderful hearing of your interest. Please keep it up to ensure the hope of my son's generation may further it still. (He is only 5).
@LafrankyDanky To bad.Fucking religion is slowing us down so our top priority should be Time Travel so we can go back and stop religion from starting and than we might not be in a bad situation like this.DEATH TO ALL RETARDS!
NASA doesnt have plans to explore it because they already know whats there and dont want pictures of it.
So we have a moon with a hot core, orbiting a gas giant that puts out tons of heat as well, that has a massive electromagnetic field (jupiters) so it would be protected from radiation. Rich oxygen atmosphere and possible liquid water under huge cracked sheets of ice. If you understand how biology works and how determined life is to exist there is absolutely tons of stuff under that ice.
I hope I will live to see that day, when we discover life in our solar system. As far as I know, the best bet is either Europa or on 2 of Saturns moons: Incelladus and Titan. Im 17 now. Do you think I will live long enough? What do you think are the chances we will actualy find anything? Thanks :)
Ya I think you will make it, Im 16 and I cant wait to see what wonders await us, also the moons Calisto, Ganymede, and Triton all may have an ocean under there crust. i think the chances are high we will fined lie outside of earth, and good for finding it in the solar system.
In the wake of my son leonardoperezs´ fascination with space research, I received this link from him, for which I am thankful. Thank you for creating such inspiring work through which people can get acquainted with this adjacent part of Universe that surrounds us. The music of Mike Oldfield is beautiful!
Im a huge fan!! thanks a lot for all this work! Its awesome! I encourage people also to to lookt at them again, and to mute the music and see the video with a song of your selection. Its a whole different experience!
Sorry to change the subject but this is space-related.
To see a partial summary of the clear evidence that the Apollo moon missions were faked, google "The Naked Scientists". In the "New Theories" section of the forum there's a thread entitled "Did We Land on the Moon?". The summary is on page 15. It's the 7th one from the top.
Once people have seen the hoax evidence, there's nothing anyone can do to make them believe we went to the moon.
does anybody there that can answer me plzz.i will really apreciate it, what is the bacteria they found in moon europa? and how they know that, thanksss in a million, to anybody that can answer me
There has been no discovery of bacteria on Europa to date, but tests have been carried out that leads some scientists to believe bacteria are present. Only a closer look in the future will tell. Hope that helps. :o)
This kind of exploration is mid 21st century stuff. Once we finally decide to go, the trip will be quicker because of nuclear propulsion (something like VASIMR) and computers will be much more powerful. A nuke powered probe could melt its way thru the ice and light its way and travel freely. It all seems feasible.
Water, oxygen, and heat? That sounds pretty promising. If life isn't there already we can put it there. At least harvest the resources in order to colonize Mars or the Moon
What can i say to add to this comment? Not much really! You have hit the nail on the head. Lets hope that one day we come to our senses, and also hope that, that day is soon rather than later. :O)
theres no life under that ice. making a single cell of amino fatty acids needs more earth-like requirements its almost impossible. It won't matter if there was any life or not there the whole moon is more than enrapturing and exciting i mean if it really has twice the water on earth why not go to Europa instead of Mars?
You talk of Carbon based life like Earths. If youre talking of a copy of Earths life, then youre right. Thats what it would need. What about the other possibilities? NASA only looks for life like ours because it is by far the easiest thing to look for. Its why we look for planets like our own. There is so much that we dont know, that it totally outweighs the things we do know. You might be right or wrong, only time will give the correct answer to that though. :O)
thx Aggs I find it so amazing we focus on what's beyond the afterlife when we haven't even conquered our own galaxy. I'm calling in sick to work I'm going fishing on Europa : )
I hope to god i live to see the day that this species puts down its weapons and picks up its tricorders (lol) and starts exploring our solar system first hand.
Please god let me see this species achieve something so astronomical!!!
I hope it happens in my lifetime. Who knows what might be down there? Perhaps something as advanced as a mollusc, or even a crustacean or a fish! Anything's possible.
awesome video, nice work! We are already finding places in our own galaxy that have the possibility of supporting life, and with so many other galaxies, we are not alone!
If Humanity dont destroy itself nearly, in year 2150 maybe can open the first Europa Colony. But first USA must tell the World what they find in the Moon. Thirty years whitout man on the Moon is not meaningless. And the project Star War is speaking about itself.
I live in Europa xD Not on a moon but on Earth! I wanna live there so I'm building a rocket to there! I have couculatel every thing and it will work! I am gonna buing my sister to, we will have swimming polls also water to drink and there and Jupiter fish there to eat! Who want's to go? Just tell me and I will come for you at the end of 2009!
I have heard there are plans in the upcoming decade to explore Europa. I am just dying for us to discover life--any life--on Europa, Triton, Titan, or Mars. However, I wonder if Jupiter's juggernaut deadly electromagnetic field could penetrate the ice and make life impossible on Europa.
i agree and maybe calling our species ignorant is a little extreme but all those religious nuts and dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with believing in religion but most wont except life elsewhere in the universe ....thats kinda what i meant by ignorant! but i did love your video!
Well I'm a muslim and see, according to the Quran life can exist anywhere in this universe. I'm sure by ignorant you mean people who think life only exists on earth. The Quran even says we can go anywhere in the lowest heaven (which is our Universe, but we won't be able to penetrate beyond) (hint: space travel). So yeah, never lose hope because life doesn't have to mean human life. Water is everwyhere in space and I'm sure life exists anywhere. Peace!

I have no clue, but seriously i wish i was born in a time when we were at space age, i love astronomy and i am very curious on what is out there.

i'm gonna cry if they find life there!
(i think there already is!)
joetjoepboy 1 year ago
life is very muck possible on that planet! the only thing is that it's way to cold out there. if you warm it up to 20 C' it will be just like earth! it will grow bigger becose now it is -273,5 C' so its very small now.
we should exiouly track it in the same circle as te earth is spinning around the sun now! (its gonna be inpossible!)

I reckon Europa supports life!

At that time europa will be perfect, also known as the goildlocks cus its not too hot or too cold ;)

but there could be a chnce that the surface is all solid ice and no water underneath.

@LafrankyDanky To bad.Fucking religion is slowing us down so our top priority should be Time Travel so we can go back and stop religion from starting and than we might not be in a bad situation like this.DEATH TO ALL RETARDS!
soldierassasin 6 months ago
NASA doesnt have plans to explore it because they already know whats there and dont want pictures of it.
So we have a moon with a hot core, orbiting a gas giant that puts out tons of heat as well, that has a massive electromagnetic field (jupiters) so it would be protected from radiation. Rich oxygen atmosphere and possible liquid water under huge cracked sheets of ice. If you understand how biology works and how determined life is to exist there is absolutely tons of stuff under that ice.

jupiter has large magnetic field, but it also releases a lot of radiation as well!... I hope you're right tho!!

I hope I will live to see that day, when we discover life in our solar system. As far as I know, the best bet is either Europa or on 2 of Saturns moons: Incelladus and Titan. Im 17 now. Do you think I will live long enough? What do you think are the chances we will actualy find anything? Thanks :)
105km 2 years ago
Ya I think you will make it, Im 16 and I cant wait to see what wonders await us, also the moons Calisto, Ganymede, and Triton all may have an ocean under there crust. i think the chances are high we will fined lie outside of earth, and good for finding it in the solar system.

In the wake of my son leonardoperezs´ fascination with space research, I received this link from him, for which I am thankful. Thank you for creating such inspiring work through which people can get acquainted with this adjacent part of Universe that surrounds us. The music of Mike Oldfield is beautiful!

Also, do a YouTube search on "MarsFaker".

does anybody there that can answer me plzz.i will really apreciate it, what is the bacteria they found in moon europa? and how they know that, thanksss in a million, to anybody that can answer me
arvyne8 2 years ago 2

At least harvest the resources in order to colonize Mars or the Moon

theres no life under that ice. making a single cell of amino fatty acids needs more earth-like requirements its almost impossible. It won't matter if there was any life or not there the whole moon is more than enrapturing and exciting i mean if it really has twice the water on earth why not go to Europa instead of Mars?
Agogaraxis 2 years ago
You talk of Carbon based life like Earths. If youre talking of a copy of Earths life, then youre right. Thats what it would need. What about the other possibilities? NASA only looks for life like ours because it is by far the easiest thing to look for. Its why we look for planets like our own. There is so much that we dont know, that it totally outweighs the things we do know. You might be right or wrong, only time will give the correct answer to that though. :O)

Callisto, another moon of Jupiter have oxygen and water too.

i agree and maybe calling our species ignorant is a little extreme but all those religious nuts and dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with believing in religion but most wont except life elsewhere in the universe ....thats kinda what i meant by ignorant! but i did love your video!
gillieman69 2 years ago
Well I'm a muslim and see, according to the Quran life can exist anywhere in this universe. I'm sure by ignorant you mean people who think life only exists on earth. The Quran even says we can go anywhere in the lowest heaven (which is our Universe, but we won't be able to penetrate beyond) (hint: space travel). So yeah, never lose hope because life doesn't have to mean human life. Water is everwyhere in space and I'm sure life exists anywhere. Peace!
