  • easy way to check magnification levels:

cut out a 1cm piece of paper, put it on the scope, and then measure the projection with a tape measure.

  • My laser 50mv only for S$20

  • My laser S$20 50mv

  • i just give hint i got a idea how to invent a 4G microscope and that is called M scope

and "M" is the stuff that i know>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..

  • i got idea but i have no money to patent them so i will wait until i go money to patent !

  • i 1st did it with red laser but that time i was in a dark room i did laser projection with 1st try

  • i got that idea 1st but i left it for no use

  • too much blah blah

  • I actually learned how to do that a long time ago to see dust. I shone a red laser pointer through a magnifying glass.

  • OUT OF MY WAY!!!! Going to the shed. Must build!

  • How about using a typical everyday slide??? /sarchasm

  • 0:18 !! Is he Sheldon Cooper? D:

  • YES! I have a 30mw pointer. And they cost about 30 new zealand dollars

  • I am so trying this with blood. Or even better, s- actually nvm

  • With blood being red it would absorb most of the green wavelength just like the protective goggles do, and leave you with not much laser light coming out for projection. Also if you used a red laser for this the power would need to be about four times higher to get the same perceived brightness.

  • NOOOOOO DON"T LEAVE ME!!!

  • IQ test before posting comments!

  • Blood cells are tiny cells, protists are comparatively large cells.

The bending straightening thing could have been a nematode, or mosquito larvae one you can see with the naked eye the other you can't. Being from aquarium probably the former.

What you are looking at are either protists (single celled animals) or small multicellular organism like water fleas and water bears.

You wont make out any virus or bacteria they're simply to small to see.

  • Lasers...how do they work??!!!

  • @Datty77 They work very well, thanks for asking.

  • @Datty77 f***ing miracles

  • The green laser pointers are better because they have a secondary doubler cavity that greatly cleans up the asymmetric beam from the 1064nm diode laser.

  • DealExtreme has some pretty cheap lasers. like $10 for a 50 mW green laser. Drops the total cost to around $15.

  • wtf is that?

  • Nice simple set-up. i made a similar microscope projector adding a cheap webcam lens to a green laser pointer (200mW). see it on my vimeo/dusjagr channel or on hackteria, where there is many other instructions on cheap microscopes

  • this works with cheap toy lasers as well

  • this reminds me of the last scene from the animated movie 9

  • i think if use UV laser could have best results

  • the guy had a neat idea and you kill him in an interview, go back to CRAFT with your beak and tell kip to build us some shit!

  • Damn.. can you say Extra credit?...

  • try this with saliva.

  • Where did the Weekend Projects go?

  • why no more kipkay

  • aren't green lazers banned?

  • @Arozol6 in no way, shape or form? yes. Haha. It's the power of the laser that matters, the color makes no difference.

  • @orioneriksen idk :P i thought that the color was also if it was too dangerous or something

  • Is there NOBODY that sympathizes with the fate of the microsopicitizens trapped inside the drop of water? Are they holding up signs? Are they chanting anything? Are there amoeba tough guys wielding night sticks?

  • early jan.

  • This is great!! Thanks!

  • you could make a make microbe tea out of worm castings and filter it for a crazy show!!

  • Would this work if you used make-shift slides?

  • I'm a small living thing. Do I excite you? , ': j

  • @Dylanjraub oh you... xD

  • I'll try it with my SPERMS!

  • @AndroidDevil How old are you? 2?

  • @razerburst What, u said How old are you? and u said 2? at the end, I'm 16 and that 2 at the end doesn't make any sense, if u mean "how old are u 2", Well were not 2 but I'm one person, AndroidDevil not Android and Devil & if u mean 2 years old! well thats impossible that a baby can be on a computer or test his cum. LOL!

    Oh yeah anyways I'm 16 ;P

  • WOW! Something on makemag worth making!

  • The actual useful content of this eight minute clip, if the word "um" and all ferret-shock distractions were edited out, would fill out about one minute. Interesting project, but I'm way more interested in the setup than in hearing about how the ceiling fan makes the water droplet swirl in pretty patterns. Argh! Science plz!

  • that guy had somewhere to go, he's a workin' microbe!

  • What is holding the water to make the beam refract?

  • @johnny1bucket Its on the end of an needle

  • Does Sean Ragan have a YT account? cause it would be nice to watch some more science experiments on YT :D

  • if you want kipkay again thumb up

  • Cool

  • I made one of these before - I used my Arctic i pulled off of Wicked lasers. It is AWESOME!

  • try semen next

it's gonna be a great show

  • guys that subbed cos of kipkay shd unsub?

  • @MadMacheart I actually subbed because of Bree Pettis Weekend project, and thats long gone.

  • i found something similar;....this video says the magnification is about 1000x ..

  • This is actually extremely interesting if you have the mind capacity to fathom WTF is happening - Thank you.

  • well microbes must be bigger, coz they have more cells, and blood has just cells, basically you would be able to see that but, you would have to look for it.

  • @Hexpigge but not all cells are the same size. the yoke of an egg is a single cell, an thats much bigger most complexe life.

  • This is shit. Cmon makemag, do good videos!

  • his head mustve been really itchy ..or nervous

  • Nice!

  • @Jallandhara Thumbs up if you think Youtube should require an IQ test before posting comments!

    ;-)

  • @pikuorguk It really should. Maybe that would stop idiots like you from posting such garbage.

  • @iLoveEatingPie Wow your an idiot !

  • @JTshoot I'm an idiot, yet you are the one who can't tell the difference between "your" and "you're". Better luck next time, loser.

  • @pikuorguk Not before comment ;] When someone signs up to youtube ;D

  • @pikuorguk And comments to these videos aren't allowed to contain the word "Kipkay".

  • @pikuorguk yeah because thats the only measure of intelligence.

  • Interesting concept, poorly delivered. Please speak with some sort of enthusiasm rather than just delivering 8 minutes of monotone.

  • OOOOOOO Pretty Nightlight!

  • BORING! KIPKAY!!!

  • There is no way to tell what you are seeing. Also, Wikipedia is your friend.

  • @TehBANN3D lol you can skewer a bacterium with the pins on the bottom of an intel i7 chip!

  • That happens to be how they found out the structure of DNA!

  • @1zacster

    That and X-Ray crystallography.

  • Rings of refraction? Typical chemist has no fucking idea what he's talking about.

  • Damn, that was so freaking intresting and cool!! :)

  • what happened to all the comments about wanting kipkay back? we gotta convince make! thumbs up if u agree

  • Slovenec :D

  • I wish you had pointed the camera right at the projection on the wall, I feel like the camera was auto-adjusting to the ambient light in the background. If it had been pointed at the projection, I think we could have seen it better (there was a frame or two when the light was switched off when it was perfect). Still, this is pretty awesome.

  • I did this and one of the blobs looked like Jesus. Is that normal?

  • @dexluther Only if your Mexican, and your sample came from a tortilla

  • gah I knew exactly what this was because I remember in class in middle school sunlight reflecting off my pen would have a distinct pattern on the paper. I looked closely and found out it was magnifying every single scratch on the metal including ones I couldn't see.

  • is it just me or does Seth Rogan look skinny as fuck?

  • wtf i thought this was gonna be Seth Rogan

  • is he using Autotune?

  • under $20 on ebay for a 5mw green laser

  • they're protozoans, not bacteria, you probably wouldn't be able to see bacteria with that set up

dilluting blood would probably make the blood cells burst

  • @sonicase bacteria are between 500 nm and 5 μm. Green lasers operate at ~550 nm, so you would be able to see most bacteria.

  • @TehBANN3D no, it depends on the magnification of the water droplet, to see bacteria you'd need about 1000x magnification, i doubt the water droplet is even close to that, plus you'd probably need an oil coating around the water so that the light doesn't scatter when trying to see at that magnification

the fact that the laser is 500nm just means that light will shine off of the bacteria so if you had a high enough magnification you'd be able to see the bacteria

  • Im going to try this with blood, Fuck 500$ microscopes.

  • @uberxgod your blood my have a high optical dencity so my not work anless u used a electro microscope so as he said blood may not work and the red blood cell (RBC ) would become denatured and burst and the same would happon for a white blood cell this is what i got from GCSE biol and all so 2 terms of AS level

  • @uberxgod I tried it with my blood too, turns out I have aids :(

  • i think the girl looks like a retarded buffalo

  • can it work with my pee

  • That girl is so cute :)

  • Nice project

  • what the fuck do you think your doing?

  • damn im 3rd

  • @ivanpwns895 you're not ...

  • 3rd

  • 2nd
