Effigy were originally from Perth where they were hugely popular in the local scene. They eventually relocated to Melbourne and released two very good albums before disbanding. I saw them live a number of times before they left Perth and they always put on a really good show.
FYI - found the original version of this track online, but its on My Space music - there are a few other effigy's, need to scroll through to find the melbournites!
Nice cover man! Effigy were a promising Australian band. Probably one of the last Australian rock bands i took interest in. Shame they threw in the towel. 'Suspicion Bells' was a great song, but Century Collapsing was full of great songs.
And while i agree with TheLanie84 that it was very late 80's rock, i think it transcended that era too, because it has other influences going on.
the album that this song comes off is called 'Century Collapsing'. I bought the album for that song but fell in love with the rest. very late 90's rock. Definately worth a listen. Nice cover mate.
dude, proud as punch, my fave band of all time, friend of Pete the lead singer, you should hear there new stuff, I has 2 double cds of it, lucky me, :D well done bruvva...
Correction - they were a band from Perth. I never had any of their albums but they had another couple of ace singles off their first album that got a lot of play on triple j back in the day - lovers and i give in.
i actually only ever had this song on a tape that i recorded off of triple j. and the dj said they were out of melbourne. still actually have the tape. maybe they stuffed up hehe
its all good....if perth bands ever want to make it they go to melb or syd...youll never find the likes of eskimo joe back home as shit as they are its just where the important people are. this is a wicked song, a cover i believe...effigy were the aus goth scence for a while and had good recognition overseas but who likes chicks with black lipstick?
i thought they were a semi religous group? i think there drummer does the drumming on that show rock wiz. i hear qld is a good place to go to make it big actually.
awsome job dude! ur voice is awsome man, hits me with joy :) guitaring is solid man - and u said it was hard to sing and play :P u make it look easy :(
I love the cover - one of my favorite songs of my youth.
