  • I hope you find something good for you. I too sometimes consider WLS - I am 5'9" and 230lbs, but at one time I lost 80 lbs on WW and felt awesome. Then - life got in the way. An emotional eater - I used food to cope with some stressful things in my life. I had an old childhood friend who had gastric bypass (she was only 1 inch shorter than me and only 7 lbs heavier at her highest) and has had health issues ever since. VERY scary! Still...different people...different results. Good luck!

  • No matter which road you choose to change your life with You will need to be ready to make it your lifestyle forever. Diets and quick fixes as you know dont work but when you are ready to make a life time commitment the the yo-yo wieght loss will stop. I am so proud of you for taking the steps to make a life change. We are all here for you!

  • You can cheat both LapBand and Gastris Bypass.I choose the bypass cause its not as easy to cheat. I knew i would cheat if i could.Started at 500 pounds and at around 215.I'm five years out from surgery.

  • Excellent! Glad you did your research. Any gastric bypass surgery has its drawbacks. Not slamming it because its a miracle for some and a curse for others. You MUST weigh the pros and cons and decide if the pros outweigh the cons for YOUR life. Kudos 2 U!

  • salutaireme - Yes, WW is great. I've done it before and have been successful on it. You're right. It's all about personal commitment.

  • I`m a nerd, as well! ;) And now, at this point it doesn`t seem to be the right thing for me to have the GB after all. Unfortunately, they do no longer do the lap band here. The reason for that being that the long term weight loss does not seem to be that good. Too many gain the weight back. Eighter way, with or with out an operation, losing the weight is hard. Good luck on your journey! I`ll be watching.

    Best wishes,

    Bebe

  • Thanks for watching Stupedama. Please check out fatty2slim's blog for inspiration. She's really encouraged me.

  • I had the Duodenal Switch surgery for it's best long term results and highest excess weight loss numbers. Check it out. It leave you with the most normal post op eating. No stoma so no strictures. You can use NSAIDs post surgery and maintain your pyloric valve. I have a 10 year study if your interested in long term study. Let me know if your interested. Cheers! I wish you the best with your decision as I know it's not an easy one to make. Tom

  • Thanks winelover215. I'd definitely like to see that study. BTW, what are NSAID's? Thanks for watching!

  • You have to do what is right for you. If you are not comfortable with a procedure then it is not the one for you. Remain true to yourself and your journey whichever road you take will be a good one. Connie

  • Thanks for the encouragement soon2belessofme.

  • I like to study too, about everything. I don't know your history, I am sure you have a story though. I believe that whatever you decide, you will do well (this time).

I don't tell anyone about what path they should take, but the main thing is to find the cause or root of why you eat. The root remains no matter what path you choose for weightloss, if you don't sort it out.

I am in your corner, sis.

  • Thanks so much Seedcovers. Like I said, I'm really trying to "get real" with myself about my level of commitment to lose in the long term. Thanks for watching. I enjoy your videos!

  • Great job in thinking about your options. My thought process is no matter what path I take..gastric bypass, dieting or just being over weight... there will be problems. Some people who are overweight live to a ripe old age with no health problems and others die at 25 from obesity. Like you said..Life is a crap shoot. I put all my faith in God and try to make the best informed decision I can. Good luck with your decision. Michelle

  • 08TheYearofMe -- Thanks for watching. It's just important for me to get real with myself. If I were experiencing major health problems or had some sort of food addiction I think I could justify it more to myself. I had to admit that I wasn't really at the point where I required something that drastic where the longterm results were somewhat uncertain. I thought I was, but when I dug a little deepter, I discovered I wasn't. Thanks so much for watching!

  • Great video - you have to do what is right for you and everyone's results, long term or short term are going to be a little different. I researched having the GBS for 4 years before taking the plunge. And I feel it was what was best for me. I wish you the greatest success no matter which way you decide to go and continue to look forward to watching your journey! Dee

  • Thanks mammabeardee. I've looked at it off and on for years, but really didn't begin reading medical journals and studying the long term effects until this year. I haven't closed the door on it, I just don't want to move forward with it unless I can get some hard evidence on what happens years down the road. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for watching mine.

  • A friend had GB 3 yrs ago & is doing terrific! She is on plan & is quite successful. Another had GB @ 12 years ago. She got to goal (she lost 189) & was good for @ 8 yrs. As w/ any surgery that has stitches & THE PATIENT DOESN'T FOLLOW THE RESTRICTIONS PUT IN PLACE, her pouch stretched & she regained 250 lbs. Granted her behavior did NOT change for LIFE & that needs to happen with any WLS. Good luck with ur decision! Im looking towards getting a LB & would love to know your reservations.

  • Thanks for watching bandaidedLee. Yes, those LIFELONG changes are what make the difference between long term success and failure with or without surgery. Unfortunately, I've heard stories like your friend's all too often. It seems to me it's just a matter of time before you're either dealing with deficiencies or weight gain. I'd love to do a video on the lap band and why I'm not its biggest fan. I'm learning more about it. I'll post something on that soon. Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks. It's Superstar by Adam Levine and Lupe Fiasco.

  • I don't think there is a "typical" gastric bypass patient...our bodies are unique...but it is good to research and learn and know what will fit for your life. I felt like I was a ticking bomb and had to do something drastic to hopefully save myself...whatever the future brings...and no surgery is an easy way to lose...its all work, girl! You have to do what is right for you...for me, it was gb rather than the lap band..maybe your surgeon has more references he can point you to for research? jane

  • MissJanieHere -- I hope you didn't feel I was saying you were disparaging the surgery. I know you were putting info out there so we can educate ourselves. It gave me a lot to consider in tandem with other information I've collected. Thanks again.

  • Oh, no! I didn't! I am glad that you are educating yourself and only you know You! I was scared away from GB back when I was 36 years old and here I am post op GB...life is funny sometimes. But education is the key and I think we should all be able to talk about pros and cons--which is why I was so impressed by your video and so glad that you were doing research and not just making a decision off the cuff! Congrats to you!
