  • in Canada you can buy boxed cake mixes that you make in a coffee mug and cook in your microwave oven

  • Thanks for the recipe! One of my favorites.

  • I'm sorry if this question is repeated but what kind of cocoa powder do u prefer? If its in the united states?

  • i love dark chocolate! is meiji chocolate cheap in japan? do you know where i can buy it here in the U.S for a good price?

  • Comment removed

  • i did it~ it taste so awesome. very simple recipe ! Thanks :)

  • I made this cake recipe today and it turned out great! My whole family was really impressed with me because whenever I bake it usually isn't that good. XD Thanks for this recipe, easy and practically allergen-free, perfect!

  • if we want to add coffee, is it just straight up black coffee or does it have to have like.. sugar, creamer, etc.?

  • is the T. tablespoon or teaspoon?

  • @TheCrazyGurl7713 The T is tablespoon. t is teaspoon

  • @edpavik thanks

  • can you make one big cake of it to?

i think it can, but it could be that it gets very firm.

  • @fOLOWyOURhEART - Yes, of course. The original recipe calls for baking it in a 9-inch round cake pan, for 25-30 min. Try it out :)

  • @emmymadeinjapan thanks, i deffenitly wil. i love chocolate and to try out new recipes. so love to try it :)

BTW: love the way you bring the videos/ the responses to the candy's.

keep up the good work ^.^

  • I think this is perfect for a valentines day give to friends!!

  • Awesome i will definitely look forward to that also i love your videos i actually just recently just found you on youtube an i am already lovin all of the videos anyway thx again

  • Would the time and temp be the same if I made this in a 9x13 cake pan? I've never seen cup cake cups that big in my area.

  • @PinkSander - Umm, not sure. The original recipe is baked in a 9" round pan for 25-30 min. so a 9" x 13" would probably be less. Just start checking for doneness w/a tooth pick after 15 min. & give it more time if it needs it. Good luck!

  • I made this cake yesterday! It's super yummy. Thank you for the recipe and I hope to see many more in the future.

  • @eliphs11 - Yay, another recipe tester! Glad you liked it and 'yes' more cooking shows are in the works.

  • it was DELICIOUS!!! thanks for the advice

  • I don't know if you take request but if you do here is mine....... If you can try to do cake in a cup when you go back to the states or i you can do it in japan please take this into consideration thanks :)

  • @koolkat45100 - Oh, I've got this on my list, Japanese-style, look for a video in the next couple of weeks.

  • if you dont like frosting try fudge sauce ^____^

i have a really easy recipe if you like :)

  • Is there a huge difference between the Meiji Black and the Milk chocolate once it's baked into the cake? Or does it taste the same. I love both kinds of chocolate so it's hard to decide. =]

  • You sound like Mandy Moore. It's kinda cool. Haha :)

  • F Frosting its to sweet and its anotger layer of work!

Me: Yeah what she said -High Fives emmy-

  • This is way better than the cake I make

  • Do you taste the vinegar ? And wer in Japan do u live ? Hope that you answer my questions !!! I love your videos ... :)

  • emmy i made this cake today and was the best I´ve ever tried so delicious!!!

  • why are you sifting sugar? and arent you supposed to just stir in one direction? (: the muffin rose nicely. cool reaction with the vinegar! gonna try it. thanks!

  • Were do u live

  • Sounds Yummy, I like that the paper liners are a bit higher than the ones here in the US. I will have to see If I can find some here.

  • Is t. a teaspoon or a table spoon?

  • @Soryamm CARBON DIOXIDE????

  • Gonna try this at my Xmas party :D

  • @Taeshawol

    same here!

  • @emmymadeinjapan If you take it out slightly early will it be fudgy in the middle? thanks, I love your videos and I think youre adorable :D

  • Do you think it would work if I put it on a baking tray? o:

  • Since you added vinegar, will you taste the vinegar at all? Or even just a little bit? And thanks for the tutorial!(:

  • @isnoopy411 naah, you wont get to taste it at all

  • What sort of reaction happens when vinegar is added?

  • @chennyci NaHCO3 + CH3COOH → CH3COONa + H2O + CO2 :)

  • @Sortamm Lol, chemistry hahaha - thanks! :)

  • @chennyci a leavening reaction when added with the baking soda. it adds up volume to the cake, makes it rise. its actually the substitute to the egg that was not in there that usually makes the cake rise.

  • My dad (meat lover) has been looking for the best chocolate cake for 3 years now. I made this and my dad asked how did i make it. I replied it's vegetarian, then showed him this video. He said he found the best chocolate cake recipie.

  • @therneee - Yay! We to go Dad!

  • iujfuwjdfwdw it looks so good! I'm gonna try this tomorrow :D

  • wont it taste weird thought with vinegar?

  • quick question-what does the vinegar do? to make it rise? is it sour? looks good though.

  • Hey Emmy! Thanks for posting up this recipe! I just made this cake for my sister's birthday today and it was a total hit. :) You should've seen my mother's face when i told her there wasn't any eggs or butter. LOL Anyways it was really yummy so THANKS a LOT! xD

  • @SpaceMonkiiBob - So sweet of you to make a birthday cake for your sister & even better that everyone liked it. :)

  • emmy it's baking powder not soda actually... if im wrong correct me

baking soda has like acid i guess but baking powder makes your cake rise while baking so that it will not be so flat

  • @XXloverbabeXX1 I think that's why she added the vinegar, so there would be a chemical reaction for it to rise.

  • @HaruxHaruxLuv ohh

but im so confused right now but i guess its sod hahas

  • @XXloverbabeXX1 - It's baking soda. I wrote about this at length on my blog, the link's in the description box. :)

  • @XXloverbabeXX1 its not baking powder its baing soda because when u add vinigar and b soda it flows but if u add b powder and vinigar it not worked

  • lol You're making all of us tempted to make this recipe 8D

Even I'm going to make it!! XD

  • I'm going to try this recipe this weekend with my friend!

  • @emmymadeinjapan You should show the world what a pocky is and show them different kinds of flavors. I'm asian so I know about this, but other people doesn't have the chance to try different cultures. You can buy Pocky at a lot of asian supermarkets too. :D

  • its so perfect \ O 3 O/

  • Hi Emmy! Thanks for sharing this hassle-free chocolate recipe. I tried this last night and it was deliciously moist. I might try with different type of chips (butterscotch, anyone?) in future.

  • @efelwhy - Sweet! I'm glad you liked it & butterscotch sounds lovely.

  • I would've thought the strong taste of the olive oil would be bad for baking.

  • @KnightSaziel - I think ordinarily you'd be right, but I in this case it worked just fine; just cocoa-y goodness.

  • @KnightSaziel I hear from some people that it can alter the sweetness. But on the other hand, I hear LOTS of people say they use olive oil all the time and don't taste the difference. So I'd say it's safe.

  • Emmy,

you r the best I love how u really give detail your not just like ohhh its yummy thanks soooo much <3 YAAA

  • whats life in Japan like for vegetarians??

  • Love your voice.

  • Its nov1 today

  • @emmymadeinjapan - if it is vegan, shouldn't it not have chocolate bits in it?

  • @TheSweetifiedThere is such a thing as vegan chocolate; although she's not using it :)

  • For anyone who was wondering, a little t (t.) means teaspoons and a big t (T.) means tablespoons.

  • おいしそう!

    上手ですね^^

  • WHAT WAS YOUR OPENING SONG?!?!?

  • Can you still taste the vinegar?

  • delicious!

  • omg its so moist. it tasted amazing!!

  • "It's not trying to be a brownie" - that made me giggle. I did not know that kitchens in japan didn't have ovens like here in the US.

  • Is t. tablesppon or teaspoon?

  • @nerd0724 - I already answered this below :)

  • @nerd0724 Teaspoon (: Jeez I can't believe Emmy would rather tell you "she already answered this" then tell you the actual answer.... which is even easier to type! Thats kind of bitchy, Emmy....

  • @xniks101x I don't think it's bitchy at all, but it actually would be easier if she just had typed the answer. Because the answers don't always appear below c: Anyways, I'll definitley try this recipe! Thanks for sharing.

  • @xniks101x - Sorry, not being bitchy. Just trying to help you out in the future:) I don't want you to look like you don't bother to read previous comments to see if your question's already been answered before asking.

    That's all:)

  • I made some!!!!!!!!! :)))) sooooo gooood, i had only 3 pans so i had some left out batter that i threw. BUT IT WAS AMAZINGGGG.

  • A local coffee shop where I live in America sells something similar and they are delish! Thanks for telling us how to make them cuz I love them.

  • I am so turned on the minute those came out of the oven!

  • Oooo looks so good *mouth waters* im a bit of a chocoholic :) definitely will make this

  • The cake is easy to make... but I love those cup cake cups...since they are stiff and free standing you don't need a muffin tin.. thanks.

  • Your reaction: Yummmmmmm

  • @emmymadeinjapan thanks for the reply i'll try to find soda then

  • I use the same recipe and it's fail safe, never flops!

I don't really like icing either. I occasionally use marshmallow icing (the egg white and sugar syrup kind) if it's for a birthday since it comes out so nice and shiny.

  • Wow, it looks really good. But just a question, how much sugar are you supposed to use? Not the icing sugar to sprinkle on top, but the one for the batter. It's not listed in the ingredients. D:

  • @Luvsapplesmac - Whoops! :( I added it, thanks

  • The cake looks delicious, Emmy! I want to try your recipe. I have NEVER heard of anyone putting vinegar in their mix, but it makes sense!

  • Hi Emmy. Just wanted to ask, did you use Johakuto Sugar? and if i use regular granulated sugar, does it matter?

Thanks. Love the videos. From London. :).

  • @MegaWatering - Regular granulated sugar is perfect.

  • @emmymadeinjapan is it 2 Tablespoons of Vinegar? But can you still taste the Vinegar? I'm going to bake this for my friend since he like Vegan foods :) thanks.

  • @francescam18 - I already answered this in the comments below, thx :)

  • Hey Emmy! How'd you get my grandmas cake recipe?! Except for the chips it's the same recipe!!! It is yummy.

  • youre so sweet..so KAWAII ! *_*

  • what happens if you overmix it?

  • Hi Emmy: I didn't see the amount of sugar used in your recipe. How much did you use? Can't wait to try it!

  • Yum!

  • I heared that in japan there are lots of types of Poky's

    is that true? *_*

  • @tianahime - Wow, that sounds decadent :)

  • I love frosting, but it's just that it's a HUGE trouble to make frosting, because homade frosting = more stuff to wash = NEVER GOOD.

  • oo , so much sugar i think xD

  • Emmy can you make dango ? :)

  • I've made this 3 times within the past 4 hours for 3 different groups of people, and each one turned amazing magic gorgeous wonderful wow zomg good. That and more people love me. Thanks Emmy for this vid!!!!! :3

  • @elirodolfa - Whoa nelly :) and I'm glad you liked the recipe.

  • dosnt the vinegar taste bad?

  • @YellowZebra22356 - No. You don't taste the vinegar at all.

  • Your mini Cakes looks so professional like a awesome chief :)

  • You are a totally awesome cook :D

  • I'm just curious do they have baking soda or baking powder in Japan?

  • @amandaIeigh - both

  • @emmymadeinjapan Wouldn't it be easier to use one of those rather than vinegar or is it because of the space and time constants it's easier to use vinegar?

  • Can you taste the vinegar? Seems pretty funky if you can taste it Dx

  • I made it a second time using teaspoons instead of table and it was still salty! I'm tasting the batter and its not good! HELP!

  • yay Im Vegan! im gonna Make it

  • Is that regular sugar or powdered sugar and how much did u use

  • @GoddesAthena21 - Powdered (aka icing) sugar. Use as much as it takes to make it look pretty, there's no need to measure. :)

  • Looks really nice!!

    Thanks for sharing emmy

  • -___- The easiest recipe and I find a way to screw it up! I put 1/2 a tablespoon of salt and when I tried the batter it was salty

  • @JaypAndAnt - Big T. ='s tablespoon. Little t. ='s teaspoon.

  • how many cups of sugar is that? it isn't mentioned in the ingredient list. and is that icing sugar?

  • @irenenergy - What sugar are you talking about? There's sugar in the batter (it's listed in the ingredients) & powdered (aka icing) sugar dusted on top at the end. There's no amount for the powdered sugar b/c there's no need to measure it; just use as much as you want. :)

  • @emmymadeinjapan i read the other persons comment and i dont see him replying so here's what he/she ment-the first white thing before the cocoa.what is that?and can you write a recipe in the description box please?like how much and what to do i mean i know u said that in the video but when u were mixing it u sped it up.

  • @mimincety99 - I wrote more about it on my blog there's a link in the description box :)

  • What's a famous Japanese tea I would love to try it

    I'd buy that.

  • 5:13 there is a hart on the plate <3

  • What exatly does the vinager do? And i make a bittersweet chocolate tartlet i think you'd like :)

  • cool! I want to try this recipe with my mom >W<

  • so pretty! :) you'd make an awesome mom, emmy! the food you make always looks so good!!

  • @lastylex3 - thanks :)

  • thats strandge in u.s.a we use baking sode and baking pounder to make our cakes rise ive never heard of using viniger... cool :)

  • @craftykenzie01 - I've read that baking powder already contains and acid to make it react when a liquid is added. Some recipes include a bit of baking soda to help neutralize some of those b.p. acids.

  • @emmymadeinjapan thanks for repling most of the famouse youtubers with tons of subs never reply to messadges :)

  • Your idea on putting icing sugar on top is pretty smart. I don't like icing anymore because it's either too sugary or too filling. So, I think I'll do that from now on! :)

  • if coffee is added to chocolate cake batter, it's called mocha chocolate cake

  • hey emmy i heard that there was another earthquake in japan are u ok?

  • @prprincess812 of course she's okay. didn't she post this video today?

  • awesome.

  • That looks so good and the cake with the powdered sugar makes it look fancy lol

  • lol i gasped when you poured the giant bowl of sugar. well made though, looks good! :D

  • @emmymadeinjapan

omg i hate frosting to i think it is just way to sweet and i dont like the texture when it dries

  • Yummy! I love chocolate cake. :)

  • 5:23

    Me: This'll turn into a cake? o.O....

Me: 5:35 OIMIGOD IS A FLOOFY :DDD

  • Looks like my sister and I are having a cook-off this weekend...

  • when i use baking powder instead of baking soda do i still need the vinegar?

  • @attaggee - Ooo, I'd be careful here. In most recipes you can't substitute one for the other. :(

  • Chocolate is awesome and so is Emmy .it is a very good combo

  • Wow such a cute result :D Thanks for this!

  • Could you do this without vinegar

  • @ajwiggins01 not if you're using baking soda; use baking powder instead :)

  • @2Namia - Not sure if this substitution's a good idea....

  • @emmymadeinjapan I tried it and it worked. Then I tried it with vinegar AND baking powder and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay airy. :P

  • @ajwiggins01 - You could, but your cake will be flat.

  • I tought vegans didnt eat chocolate

  • @stonedxwithoutxdrugs They don't, she said that they didn't.

  • @stonedxwithoutxdrugs - Vegans don't eat meat, dairy, or animal products.

  • @emmymadeinjapan hey emmy thanks for making this vidio now i have something to make for my mom birthday

  • i dont like frosting either.
