  • This is my favorite you tube video....EVER!

  • 1:55 ...FUCK!!!

    what happened to music.

  • Whoever posted this is frickin' awesome!

  • Thank you for the most wonderful waves (without a doubt) ~^~

  • Are they at the Manson ranch?

  • @the1musicmike Haha...no...not at Spahn ranch...they are in Colorado !

  • No Doubt,Peter Cetera Is My favorite Singer Of All Times! Amazing Wonderful Fantastic! I Hear one Clear Voice And Beautiful! Long Live PETER CETERA ! ! !

  • Chicago was at their best back then when they had Cetera and Kath. RIP Kath.

  • The chick at 2:05 is HOTTTT!!!!!

  • The great Peter Cetera and Terry Kath. Need I say more ?

  • These guys are so d@mned talented, it's sick.

  • @pete7138 Terry once commented they often stayed out too late at the after parties till sunrise, and were hitting the mary jane way too much. Many times were barely able to assemble the band for a concert on time. He wondered where their music would have gone if they would of practiced more and were not so messed up a lot of the time. Think they did pretty good in my opinion, they must of had ample talent to pull it off.

  • This is their 'Stairway.' Fantastic.

  • What is he searching so to discover?

  • @JustPetrov , "who am I"

  • we had the best music back then!

  • Kath plays a perfect (but not nearly long enough) guitar rif!!

  • Cetera shows a glimps of his future syrupy supestardon(awsome in this song!!!).

  • Whatever...the best Chicago song hands down! The video is awsome too (for the mid 70's!)!!

  • For sure Peter records so much better than live..kinda sucks...

  • Chicago VII one of my favorite albums of time. this video took me back to high school days. so cool and easy back then.

  • I was shocked to see this. I recall watching this TV show when it originally aired in '74! It was a great special of one of my favorite bands of my childhood. Thank you for posting this amazing piece of history.

  • So true in life and love.

  • And as for ME... They are simply the Best Band ever formed. And they play-Well with Earth Wind and Fire mixing-it-up On Stage! Thanks for this early view of Chicago !

  • 10 dislikes !

Are you fucking kidding me ?

Please tell me this is a sick joke....

  • @TheMatrixPipe Maybe frustrated or ignorant people... ;) The important thing is that there are 367 likes!

  • @cidaliacastro

    Still... that's kind of annoying.

  • @cidaliacastro I read that it burned down???

  • @cidaliacastro 368 now.

  • @TheMatrixPipe I know, it pisses me off. Some people should just cut their ears off.

  • @MishuTaste

They should just jump from a bridge......

  • @TheMatrixPipe They fucking cut the second verse. How many dislikes does anybody want????

  • I didn't know that Ellen Degeneres was a member of Chicago?(LOL) Nice tune, by the way.

  • Can close my eyes at 1:44 and just get fuckin lost in it. Chicago has the best brass of any band of that era up till now. Mmm ...

  • Chicago with Pete Cetera..... great band ever.... this song makes me back to my high school days....

  • i bet the bongo guy even got layed all the time!

  • How Old Should Oui Haveta/ Be!

  • How Old Should Oui Haveta Be!

  • Hmmm. I was going to make a comment that is pertinent to the music, but I'm hypnotized by the metronome that is Peter Cetera's butt swinging back and forth:):)

  • Cetera at his best....never seen (or heard) him better! He's not just singing the music, he's feeling the music with every fiber in his bones! You see it in his face and hear it in his voice. My most favorite version ever!

  • These kids today grew up with American Idol- but us old folks grew up with this. You tell me who got the better end of the stick!!?

  • @MrVeesworld Yup, we certainly got the better end of the deal. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and those were perhaps the best era's for music. Chicago has always been one of my favorite groups and this is one of my all time favorite songs. It's has such a huge big sound...especially the ending. Today's cookie cutter crap doesn't even compare. This is the real deal with real talents and real performing artists.

  • Attention ChicagoMusicFan1, you need to reopen your account and repost Chicago Meanwhile Back at the Ranch.

  • I think I've said it before, but I love how this was aired on the exact day I was born: 8/16/74. Fate made me a Chicago fan....

  • What a way to enter the world SA. This is what was happening musically at that time. here in New York it WABC 770AM, bell bottoms, jukeboxes at the pizza place and long hair. I miss these days. I was about to begin high school by the way.

  • This is just west of Nederland at Caribou Ranch. So many great artist's recorded there. It is about 20 miles west of Boulder. Not much goin' on there but is a beautiful place to camp out.

  • Believe this aired on ABC TV.

  • this is one of the many reasons i want to move to colorado, and the sceneary just enhacnes it all in, i fee llike liateing to chicgo in an iscolated pine forest now :P lol

  • nederland colorado

  • My god..... mind=boned.

  • I love this song so much!!!

  • ...so enlightening if you give it a closer listen (sigh) and "Happy man", the whole album really.

  • The ARP2600 bassline is the shit!!

  • Not the best version of this song!

  • Comment removed

  • There is clearly some overdubbing here. The backing vocals were definately replaced after the fact. They are way to clean and balanced to match what you see here. Oh well, still worth enjoying.

  • That's a beautiful Flugehorn

  • The 1st Power Ballad? I think it ends too prematurely, they should've extended the jam another couple of minutes!

  • I have weird bitter sweet memories of trying desperately to watch this once in a life time (or so I thought at the time) TV performance by Chicago while my mom, God rest her soul, was giving me grief over my school grades. Timing never was her strong suit.

  • Amazing the harmonies live are just as good in this live performance as on the studio recording, in some places maybe even sweeter. Thats the sign of truly gifted musicians/singers.

  • Fabulous! How did you get this video? Congrats!

  • Chicago, Boston, The Doobies...this my friend is music that one can reminisce over for years to come.

  • So much talent, in one act!

  • This song reminds me of the love of my life. I was 18 and she was 16. She died in a car accident July 1974 and my life changed forever. RIP Becky. I'll always love you.

  • @job777able Sorry to hear.

  • @job777able Sorry for your loss as I can relate having lost so much during that era. This music saddens me as well as comforts me as I listen to it. No one ever really dies. I have faith that we will see our loved ones again one day.

  • @job777able Damn bro, you just hit me in the gut/heart with that one. Too sad.

  • Excellent performance! THAT is the way it's done!

  • can you dig it! yeah man

  • the best live version i have heard of this song..married my wife in 74...she was 19 yrs old at the time..this song always reminds me of her!

  • Todays music is all aimed at 13 girls ,because they don't want you to think ,they want a bunch of glazed over eyed zombies

  • I remember watching this as a young girl I LOVED this band!!! (Still do) I was riveted to my seat. There was and still is no other band out there like these guys ^_^

  • The greatest band at their peak...Cetera, Kath, and the Caribou Ranch. Doesn't get any better than this.

  • that's my family at 2:54

  • i want to go home! Chicago!~~~~~ I miss U!

  • This one's for you Peanut. I love you!

  • colorado

  • As far as I'm concerned, this is the best of the best of the original Chicago cast. Thanks SO MUCH for posting.

  • So sweet and quaint . One of the greatest bands ,ever, out in the sticks with a homeade looking banner. So raw ,but still one of the best ! Just goes to show, talent will take you a long way .

  • @lakeladymel Agreed! :-)

  • I hope these folks appreciated the musical genius; that they were watching...

  • They remind me of the manson family at spawn ranch, cept they're the groovy/nice version.

  • I'd love to vibe with that beautiful babe at 2:04 She's totally gorgeous. Beautiful video always pop up in liverecorded performances by classic bands ;-)

  • Better days..

  • Love Chicago's music so very much. However in this vid Peter Cetera looks like he is halfway through the 'op'. :D

  • @crimsonrush that's harsh. peter looks hot.

  • The last saturday i was drinking too much beers and I used to repeat and repeat this song and "call on me" reloaded 1974 of chicago too, And inside my head I believed that I was watching them in live, sorry was only my imagination. But I really want to know if is there anybody who can to tell me where is that place where they are in the video. Thanks from Mexico. ( I promise don´t drink no more)

  • @lennwinston4077 Caribou Ranch, a studio in Colorado

  • @lennwinston4077 We still love you Len ! Any fan of Chicago is a friend of mine. You ROCK !!!

  • @lennwinston4077

A wonderful place in Colorado called Caribou Ranch. You can't get there now, but can access the public dirt road above it. James Guercio still owns it. Just outside Nederland, Colorado. There is just something about that place....

  • @juhkir123 I believe Elton John recorded Rock of the Westies at Caribou as well, one of his best albums IMO.

  • @lennwinston4077 Oh cmon drink a beer! nothin wrong with that!

  • @lennwinston4077 Hey amigo, shut up and drink!!! Its all good. I think Colorado?! I drink now.

  • @lennwinston4077 Colorado rocky mountains people was wine an smoke weed an chilled nICE

  • This could well be the first "Power Ballad". Too bad they didn't extend the jam at the end for another 5 minutes like "Freebird". . .

  • This song has really grown on me over time, one of Chicago's best ...

  • ya ya ya 70s chicago is untouchable, and terry is my favorite guitarist, but i always thought the 1993 version at the greek theater was MUCH better than this one. The band was on fire that night.

  • In the 70's I loved these guys. The 80's I hated them for selling out. In the 90's I didn't care what they did, especially after they kicked Seraphine out. Saw them on live by request a few years ago and was impressed. Went to see them a couple of years ago having now forgiven them and Pankow and Parazaider had subbed out. I give up! I'm pretty sure there were some studio vocals added to this performance after the fact...they're just too perfect. Watch Lee at :59; you'll see what I mean.

  • the guy in the green T-shirt is Terry Kath, the heart and sould of Chicago. Beloved and missed by all who appreiciated his music and oh my God almighty that voice of his. His voice was just kincredilbe. and he was also very hot beyond gorgeous hot compared to peter cetera. Terry just was awsome.

  • @HRHSheeba Terry Kath was the man!! Incredible leads.

  • Such a great band, so much talent at every instrument, great music, vocals. It is kind of funny to watch a concert from the 70's like this one, where the hell is the Mosh Pit?

  • I remember Being young and thinking that chicago was just ok, because as so many young Americans, we always looked to England as superior, when we had such magnificent talent in our country. We drank the kool-aid and never saw our own greatness Now, we have the pride, and perhaps not the talent.

  • ♥ *¨*•♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ one of the most beautiful songs ever perfomed ♥ *¨*•♪♫•*¨•.¸¸♥

  • kcdannyboy thats Lamm on keyboards

  • Cetera and Kath.. are Chicago!

  • Just listen to how tight they are!!! They're outdoors and obviously LIVE and listen how GREAT they sound! Who could pull this off today?

  • @tomshea69 Amen brother!!

  • @tomshea69 they were tight!! Reminds me of the junior high cheerleaders!!

  • The early Chicago, original members was the greatest period in their musical life. Their performances were simply amazing. Great talent.

  • Is that Robert Lamm or Peter Bogdonovich on keyboards?

  • @kcdannyboy That's Stephen Bishop from Tootsie fame!

  • i used to listen to this song when your mom and dad were virgins

  • As for the ignorant idiot below saying 'there must be 200 people there, back when they did weddings'. This is the height of their career, and was obviously purposely filmed this way for a TV special, back when people appreciated quality (live) music, nature, simplicity, etc. This is an awesome vid, thanks for uploading it :)

  • I hear ya...like JG decided to have a gig at his ranch and only 200 people showed up. Typical MTV baby...not sure why he (she) is even here.

  • Diggin those Rockmount Ranchwear shirts...

  • Beautiful........wish I could have been there but I was a baby during those days......and PC just melts me......I'm crushin on him!

  • @lisahallmark oh i know. who know he was so damn gorgeous till finding these old treasures on youtube.

  • GOODNESS! have you seen adorablejaney"s latest comments? how do I block her?? lol

  • @stephencarlsbad i hear ya brother.....

  • @adorablejaney- Hey psycho... nobody cares...lol!

  • Uh?? Peter was completely high during this live performance...no?? lol

  • @stephencarlsbad who cares? his ass looks pretty damn fine at 1:16 tho!

  • Wow - there must be at least 200 people there. Must have been back in the day when they played weddings. I like the banner strung between 2 trees - really takes me back to nature.

  • @dpahls1 you oughtta be tied between two trees!

  • @Trashfished

christ you are pathetically stupid! Jimmy doesnt even have a beard in this video! Ya dumb twat!

  • Wow never seen them so earley!

  • UNREAL, sounds just like in the studio ... what GREAT musicians!!

  • This is the soundtrack to my

    junior high school years

(i think they call it middle school now!)

  • Mine, too! Always takes me back there ...

  • too bad the filming wasn't clear. this is a great song.

  • From what I remember, VH1 aired this during their 70's week in the 90's. It was probably taped off of VHS. I might have this on VHS somewhere. Someone should post Chicago with guest Al Green doing "Tired Of Being Alone" it's amazing!

  • UNREAL!

  • WONDERFUL SONG

  • Music that transcends time...

  • @rg2027x thats the best way ive heard it said...transcends...very nice and so true.

  • Where has all the good music gone?

this was a great era for me and my teen years.

  • i was just a itltle girl at the titme but this is my music i love these guys its such a part of my adolescence!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:50 to 2:05 is amazing then again the whole song is:) anyone who was at caribou ranch or knows about it im glad to share information with you. just went there recently

  • I love this period of Chi... love pC and TK together jamming. MMM, just the best ever~

  • the guitar player in the green t-shirt is the only who can watch this and goof on the other guys

  • i hope thay sing this song this weekend in new orleans.win i see them

  • Wow, they omitted a whole verse and shortened the second half by about a minute. I think Peter had such a hard time singing this number that it was cut down by half. He's really struggling with it.

  • jimmy pankow wrote it for his girlfriend. hes the trombone player who wrote many of there hits.. old day, make me smile, colour my world, co wrote feeling stronger everday..

  • That's nice... His girlfriend changed him in this way. I wonder if she became his wife.

  • Yes,she did

  • yuh i was surprised they even tried it, this is pure studio tune.

  • anybody have any thoughts about the meaning of this song?

  • I think of me and my little girl who straightened me out when she was born.

  • oh that's nice! and i think you're probably right on the money. when you really listen to the lyrics, it sounds as though it could be about a child. great comment. thanks!

  • THAT is a wonderful comment. I know just what you mean ... from my own experience.

  • OOOH I hope you did not get hit by the drummer boy!! LOL!!

  • OUCH!

  • Ouch? Was it something I said?

  • TERRY!!

  • My favorite Chicago song. From the album Chicago VII 1st single released from album, it reached # 9 in 1974 on the USA.

  • i was 4 years old at this time.pisser! maybe we will time travel in the future. you know where i'll be.

  • .059- SO EASY A CAVEMAN COULD DO IT!

  • wonderful.......want to feel this time again wonderful ty

  • from the first time i heard this song.....i knew then and still know now....decades later....it was to be my all time favorite song.

    no question then or now.....

  • would not want to get punched by that drummer!

  • Pure Chicago, the band at their very best. Wish the guys that were still around would mend fences and get back together. Robert needs Peter and Danny in his band.

  • Now I know my life has meaning......

  • caribou is amazing going there next wednesday for a week cant wait=]=]

  • My background is the view from above that begins the video - I live here in Colorado and Caribou is like Mecca to me...wish they would open up again and have concerts. But especially would love to see a Chicago reunion (minus Terry, of course). Would be a dream come true...

  • This band just rocks.

  • Another blazing Kath performance we don't really get to see. bummer. Smokin work here that gets no camera time.

  • Chicago's music will live forever. If you grew up with Chicago as I did you know it changed your life. Now when I hear these songs I go back to where I was when they were released. It's a great trip.

  • @CFCBrenn trip on bro!!

  • @Trashfished I'll pick you up on the way.

  • @CFCBrenn Tou are right!! Great trip indeed!! Always seemed like window pane and purple mesc were passengers!

  • this makes me happy!!
