  • Will this run a game called lemming ball z

  • I would never bother doing this with my PS3, (i have a slim anyway), but i do love these old games, can you get the N64 games operating properly on your PS3? For me even with trying all the available emus out there i cant get N64 games to run correctly, they're playable tho.

  • how do you download this emulator and how do you download linux

  • good work bro

  • Or you could just play these games on their original consoles...

    Really Sonic the Hedgehof 2?

I have that for the Sega Genesis, it's barely worth playing on a PS3.

  • @MultiHworang And you... completely fail by missing the point.

  • wow. Hey dude. Where'd you get the bad ass backgrounds? my look all cheap.

  • what is the emulator you running ?

  • wear can u get da emulator???

  • Is it true that ps3 losses game and picture quality if y ou install other staffs into it?... like other game emulators for sample?...appreciatea ny answers..thanks

  • So to play emulators yuu need a computer?

    nice -_-

I wish the ps3 hack will be out soon then a few months later the slim will get hacked! =)

THEN I'LL PLAY ALL THE GOOD OL CLASSICS WITHOUT LINUX!

  • Nice Bro!

  • I just installed TDL 6.2. looks good. Can't wait to play Rolling Thunder 1,2 and 3 :)

  • something the xbox can't do so suck it xbox.

  • Interesting psp can run all of these and its portable

  • hey does installing yellow dog linux void anything or keep u from playing games online?

  • i know this will sound stupid but would there be a n64 emulator?

  • There should be. wahcade is a front end for emulators designed for people with homemade arcade machines, if it will run in linux, it will run in wahcade. (I think, my arcade is running mala in XP.

  • @JustinTheChallenger

Don't know if you already found it but yes.

    Project64

  • @gabrielle64 Which will not run on the PS3.

  • @JustinTheChallenger there is

  • @JustinTheChallenger Does linux have a N64 Emulator.

    look it up

  • @hizkijah09 linux has n64 emulators but you need one compiled on PPC and i THINK you need working 3d drivers, which ps3 linux doesn't have (or its not very good anyway)

  • I would like to have a Megadrive/Genesis emulator on my PS3. But how do I do it? And what kind of emulator on the PS3?

  • The game I would like to play on it is Eternal Champions.

  • No, it does not.

  • i remember when i had mame32 on my pc they had online if you have this on a ps3 running linux can you find people to play

  • Those versions of mame went against the terms of use. No, I won't support playing over network by breaking the TOS.

  • i dont get it

  • @zerojayzero - LoL. They made software based on playing games for free that you normally had to pay to play and you're concerned about their TOS? This is like a drug dealer complaining about a cocaine addict taking his product and making crack, running up to that second guy and stabbing him all while shouting.. FIRST!!!!!!

  • @CookieMangler You clearly don't have a clue. It's not worth having MAMEDev chasing after you for shit like this.. and just gives them more reason to just say "fuck it" and make it all private and have no more public releases.

  • i really have problems getting my linux to read my router, prolly gunna buy another router to fix this problem.

ive gone so far as to try and find a local i could pay to set this up

this is something ive wanted on my ps3 for a very long time.

just something about playing zelda, mario or sonic with a ps3 controler.

    streammygame looks badass too

  • I dotn get it I do have mame emulator for pc and all the games but HOW do I install it on my ps3 ? can you play ALL the games?

Ive got the very first ps3 that came out

  • @zerojayzero,

This is all on the YDL frame buffer? No GPU driver yet, right?

I can't believe the 3D games don't cause any crashes in YDL. I guess they've made a lot of progress, despite Sony's efforts to drawback Linux support.

  • Correct.

  • heard mupen64plus can run on ps3

    emulating n64 games

  • wow! hey zerojayzero if I install yellowdog, will I be able to install pc games through yellowdog on my ps3? because the pc game i want to install is battlefield 2 for the PC.

  • if u do im not sure about games but u can do the ps3 exploit!!

  • This is awesome, im gonna install now

  • does it support analog sticks or just the directional pad

  • even tho Im using snes9x-gtk atm (waiting for 0.50 zerogame) I must say that the d-pad is best when playing nes, snes etc. Dont think the analog sticks works flawless either.

  • teach me!

  • you can use the ps3 controller right?

  • Yes, two of them wirelessly.

  • that's cool shit...

  • i noticed you were playing Marvel vs Capcom 1, and tit makes me wonder. Is it possible to play CPS3 on the ps3? I highly doubt so but it couldnt hurt to ask.

  • You can, however it is super slow so I wouldn't call it playable.

  • Thank you, i thought so already but i wasnt sure myself. Do you happen to know if 3d acceleration will be available in the future? I mean, the slim is out and it doesnt allow to install another OS on it, so im kinda wondering if the development of YDL will contineu or what? Also added you on the PSN, im a fan of SF4 myself and i read on your blog that you like that game too. Hope thats ok.

  • There won't be 3d acceleration on the PS3. YDL will continue being developed because it's not just made for PS3 but other systems as well.

    Don't mind you adding me.

  • Too bad the ps3 slim doesn't come with the option to install an OS. That itself makes me want to buy the old 80 gig, but I like the efficiency of the Slim. Probably less likely to fail as well like my old ps3 did. You think Sony could possibly have firmware update to be able to install the OS again.

  • There's nothing stopping them from doing that, however the real issue is that they have to maintain the hypervisor on two separate platforms and it's apparently something they aren't willing to spend money on at this point.

  • @zerojayzero Thanks zerojayzero! That makes a lot of sense. I thought about too and it could have also conflicted with the new design of the board. Depending on if the hypervisor was piece of hardware that took up a significant amount of space on the motherboard. Just like how Sony removed 2 usb ports and backwards compatibility. The choice removing all of them are probably all linked with one another. The PS3 is essentially for Blue Ray movies and games. Not a really bad move to me.

  • hey is it somewhat possible to play Doom on yellow dog 6.2? its kind of 3d... what you think?

  • Doom is definitely fully playable because it doesn't require 3d acceleration.

  • wow thanks for replying, btw, can i install YDL through usb device on my ps3? coz my blu-ray driver doesnt work...

  • I'm really really not sure about if you can do a USB install or not. I know I haven't tried it.

  • You can run mame off a usb - I've managed to get it running but can only get one game working 1945kiii.zip, the othe roms say they're missing chd or rom files or some sort of error. If you could get the other roms working you'd be a legend in my book. It doesn't need linux pre installed either.

  • sdlmame-dfb-ps3-20090814.zip

that's the usb version of mame that I can on get 1945iii.zip to work on. It's supposed to be able to play all roms is my understanding.

  • ohh my god i havent played that mario game like in forever!!! i was small when iplayed it lol

  • i agree with jetblack7000 this is awesome. i going to do this during christmas break. how do u guy find out about these things anyway.

  • So, what emulators can be run on PS3 Linux, zerojayzero? Only NES and SNES?

  • The video shows off much more than that. Basically anything that doesn't require 3d should work just fine.

  • can you play a ps2 emulator?

  • Absolutely not.

  • yea your prolly could

  • could I still play ps3 game with linux installed??

  • Yes. You have to switch back to the standard gameOS using ps3-boot-gameos from Linux first though.

  • will it work for versions 3.01

  • Yes.

  • Hi, I'm wanting to do something like this (All-In-One-Emulator Suite) for a home theatre PC. Is it possible to get something like this on a PC? I don't care what OS.

  • So fucking awesome. I would love to know how to do this with my PS3.

  • its easy ^.^

just get yellow dog linux and a burnable disk (somthing u can put programs on if u didnt know) or a USB stick, and burn it to either the disk/usb stick. the wrest is easier seen,

just look up how to get yellow dog linux for ps3,

  • Thnx for the info :)

  • STFU FAG

good job zero, when are we going to be able to use it on 6.2?

  • I can tell you haven't looked at my other videos, you fucking moron. I was working on a script you could run that would install it all for you, but thanks to responses like this... yeah, I could do better things with my time.

Enjoy my showing off, you retard.

  • i would still like to see such a script if u are still working on it

  • After a long time away from it, I've just gotten back to working on it.

  • PS3 = PURE OWNAGE

  • hey what's the name of the GraphX emulator you used? I'm currently looking for one to play blazing lazers :p

  • ok sry you just wrote it : mednafen ;)

  • how do i get it reply back please

  • please reply back

im getting a ps3 soon and i know about the whole emulators on linux but can you make a video showing how to install n64 on ps3

  • you got the most advanced game system and you play super mario?

  • Its not the most advance game system, i mean ps3 is by far better than 360 but a pc beats ps3 and 360 and wii, well depedning on the pc.

  • your right but like you said depending on the pc, us avrege people cant afford $2000 computers just to play video games, so the ps3 is the most advanced game system, GAME SYSTEM, not computer

  • could be $300 for a gaming system you know. I mean if you build it yourself. Or $150 if you get everything off ebay or something lol but then you might get viruses and all.

  • I have the most advanced game system and it lets me play pretty much any console I damn well fell like playing. :)

  • no ps2 emulators? :( can u get World of World of Warcraft on the linux ps3 ???

  • hell yes its like using a sledge hammer to kill an ant, dam kooll :p

  • can u tell me where to get the emulators. i cant find them anywhere

  • soo the image im getting is that emulators work better on the ps3,,,,

  • sure beats Nintendo's virtual console

  • LOL I used to do all this with my my Xbox. not xbox 360 but the first one.

Not a big surprise to me but it is fun if you know what your doing.

It was a softmod too, didn't cost a penny.

  • HOW THE FUCK DO U GET THE EMULATOR!

  • OK? HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET IT?!

  • why do ppl put Linux on PS3?

  • finally an emulator video with original sound instead of music

  • Does anyone know how to get my bluetooth keyboard to work in Ubuntu? It works in sony's browser but when I boot up Ubuntu OS I have to usb in to get a keyboard. HELP PEASE!

  • are you using the ps3 controller or the keyboard to control the games?

  • are Emulators legal ?

  • legal if u have the real thing, eg like ur playing play station 2 games on pc, u have to have an real ps2

  • hey i don't understand so if i just download the Emulator and download the rom for a let say nes games is that ok or not ?

  • have u got a nes console??? if not then illegal, if u do have a nes console then it is legal

  • really that's how it works ? so as long as i have the system it's ok so what about arcade games ?

  • yes but the roms are illegal unless u actually have a hard copy of the game

  • ok thanks

  • No. This is a myth. Copyrighted roms are illegal to download even if you own the game. If the roms aren't copyrighted (don't know of any that aren't though) then its legal.

  • can you play project 64?

    like n64 games?

i really!!!!! really!!! want to play mario party and stuff

super smash bros+ps3=a slice of heaven

  • How smoothly do more recent games run? When I linux my PS3 I'll want to play my DS emulator, but I don't have a good DS emulator that works on Linux, so I'd have to run the emulator through a windows emulator...please respond.

  • Newer stuff simply won't run. There's just not enough power for a DS emulator here without graphics acceleration, though I haven't tried that.

And no, you won't be able to have anything even remotely playable that way. You're better off just buying a DS.

  • Oh, thanks then. I guess I'll try linux on my piece of shit laptop then. I assume a PSX emulator won't work either?

  • I'm not sure a PSX emulator is necessary....

  • This is meshugod, that's my other account. Well, PS3's backwards compatability isn't perfect, but I was mainly referring to games I only have as ISOs or burned CDs (for example, mods of games, such as Final Fantasy Tactics version 1.3).

Oh well. Guess my shite laptop will do.

  • i just read in your description that you stored your ROM images on a computer through your network using Samba/Windows file sharing. is this something that will also be automatically installed using your script or is there a tutorial online somewhere which would show us how to set that up as well. All of my ROMS total way beyond 10 GB (the only partition size PS3 allows for partitioning) :-( so sharing those ROM files through a network is definitely the only way to go.

  • @ronnie---when partitioning the hardrive i thought u could choose how much u wanted to split eg 50-50, 80-20 bt i may be wrong

  • nope... right now Sony only allows either 10GB allotted for "Other OS" or 10 GB allotted for PS3 OS. obviously we need more space on the PS3 OS and Sony knows that so it looks like we're stuck with 10 GB for "Other OS" such as linux. :-( hopefully Sony will change their minds and offer an updated firmware which will allow is to allot more space to other OS.

  • Eventually, it will be an option.

  • Great job man. Hope you can finish this stuff. PS3 really needs a nifty frontend like this.

  • Man, im going to do this as soon as i get a 60GB ps3. I have a 20GB ps3 and I want wi fi now..20gbs dont have wifi. After I buy my 60gb im going to upgrde the hard drive to like 160 or 300 and just go ballisistic.

  • there are no more 60 gb ps3's

  • is there any lag on any game of the emulators that you have???...also have you made a tutorial on how to do this??

  • These might be stupid questions, but is it possible to just have the rom images on your PS3's hard drive? Also, is it possible to use the wired 360 pad with the emulators if you have the Linux drivers for one? (Assuming such drivers even exist)

  • Yes and yes.

  • hmmm ok.

but that makes me wonder why would anyone put a limited PC version on his PS3 if you can just use the PC? (unless someone's PC is really that bad)

  • My PC exploded after i did some "experimentation" and made a tit of it.

This would be perfect until i get some cash for a new one.

  • Burn FTW!!!!

  • yeah pron does that....

  • Hmmm ok.. so basically using Linux on your ps3 is like a less-powerful PC?

and what about playing normal PS3 games and XMB? is that still possible with Linux running?

  • Linux is treated as a completely separate thing from the normal PS3 OS and the XMB. You can't use PS3 games or the PS3 side of your hard drive from Linux. You have to reboot back into PS3 mode for that. But essentially, it's just a quick reboot away to switch from one to the other.

  • holy mother of craps!

I never knew these things were possible with Linux on your ps3!!! If i would have known this before I would have installed it long ago!!

But i have to ask tho, is there anything negative about using Linux on your ps3?

slow loading, ps3 software failure, anything you know of or experienced?

  • Only real problem is that it can't run as much stuff as I would like because there's no graphic acceleration.

  • Theres a 50% chance that Jason from friday the 13th part 3 comes to your house.... other than that its cool.

  • this is tight

    where can u get it

  • I'm working on something (look at my other videos) but it's not really ready for public consumption yet.

  • ohh

    i wanna get it haha

  • you can play whit the six axis or you need a cable

  • Two controllers can be used wirelessly, others can only be used by USB.

  • are there any arcade games to download like the simpsons one

  • Yes. Why did you add that video response? Makes no sense.

  • is there a emulator to play the michael jackson game from the arcades for the pc i think it called moonwalker . the arcade game not the home version

  • Yes, search for MAME.

  • so this dosen't work if i have 2.72?

  • 2.72 of what? The PS3 firmware? What makes you ask that?

  • There is a lock on the rsx, you can thank sony/nvidea for that. But that doesnt mean someone won't find a way around it? Besides I think its already been done. People high up with authority to the ps3 probably already have dreamcast running on the ps3. We just need to bridge gaps through linux (which sucks)

  • It's not that simple and Linux isn't the culprit here. Sony has a hypervisor between Linux and the hardware, partially to make sure nothing bad (from their point of view) can happen, partially because Linux doesn't know how to handle certain things like dealing with the PS3 hard drive, etc..

  • My apologies, I made a typo, of course linux can't crack past the barrier. but there is a youtube video "ps3 rsx hack" it shows 3d accel on the ps3 on a different os. But this is like more than a year old. We have yet to see any linux support, or emulators?

  • It was Linux being run there too. The hole that was found to gain access to the RSX was closed in PS3 firmware 2.10 and no longer works. No other hole has been found since.

  • Well then, back to emulators for the PC, Tell me, is there any "Wahcade's" for the pc? I hate having to run individual windows for separate emulators. I wish it could all be cramed into one big emulator/media center?

  • Yes, Wahcade runs on Linux PCs. It's a clone of a Windows program called Mamewah.

  • You may want to check out the video response to this video to take a look at what I'm working on for the PS3.

  • Comment removed

  • Is it possible to play n64 games as well?

  • No, there is no 3d acceleration for PS3 Linux yet.

  • will this work with xunbuntu or fedora

  • There's no technical reason why you wouldn't be able to run this stuff on those distros. My script will only support Yellow Dog Linux though.

  • i have a question can you play games like pokemon ruby or emerald on linux... And i suscribe already your videos are really helpful

  • Yes, you can play both games using the mednafen emulator.

  • where can you get it???

  • i know you dont have these roms on the ps3 but can you put them on the ps3 if u want?

  • The ROMs will play on the PS3. I personally do not have mine on the PS3 hard drive, but they can be put on the drive without a problem.

  • awsome thnx!

  • wait can you use the controller to play these games?

  • Yes, you sure can if they are paired. Check out the URL in my description to see a video of a project I am working on that will install and setup everything for you super easily. I think you'll like. :)

  • sweet! I have subscribed as a thanks for your awesomeness!

  • jamas vi la consola

  • Why would we need to see the console? It's not like emulators on PS3 are unheard of at this point. Hell, I'm about to release a script to let people install exactly what I have on their PS3s, so... lol... yeah, go ahead and claim it's fake if you want.

  • hey ur not 2 bad on the marvel vs capcom mate, nice aerial combo !!! :)

  • Heh.. just trying not to embarrass myself, honestly. ;)

  • I have a question about running the emulators on ps3...how would you get the emulators to run if you had a copy of opensuse 11.1 that can be installed as the other os on the ps3?

  • I've never used opensuse, so... you'll have to use the package manager provided.

  • Could you share how you accomplished your wahcade setup? I am completely clueless when it comes to it working, except for writing the shellscript to automatically boot into the program (my goal to use linux without the need of a keyboard, mouse)

  • What exactly do you need to know? I don't mind helping out. I'm working on making this sort of setup easy for everyone to install.

  • a game boy game on a ps3 ? holy cow

  • I'm upgrading my TV from a 26" HDTV to a 42" HDTV. Gameboy Mario is going to be almost life-size. lol

  • Hi,

I installed YDL this weekend, after seeing the slashdot post :). I am a beginner with linux, and I was wondering if you could explain how you got Samba working. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi, i have installed ubuntu on my ps3, but i want to change to ydl. As i have already partitioned 10gb, do i have to reformat my harddrive or not?

Also, the reason i am switching from ubuntu is i couldn't make it full screen, my games were laggy and i just didn't find it all that user friendly. Would ydl solve my problems?

  • You won't have to reformat your entire hard drive from the XMB. You WILL have to reformat it from the YDL installation disk... but it only sees your 10GB for Linux anyways, so you won't lose anything.

Laggy games when full screen can be fixed with a scaler program that runs on the otherwise unused CELL. Check out the PS3bodega forums for that. YDL probably won't be more user-friendly but more tuned specifically for PS3.

  • okay. I just really want wahcade, it looks badass. Can it be installed on ubuntu? Is ydl also easy to make fulll screen on my 32" hd tv?

  • if i format my HD to install linux, will i lose all my saved games?

  • Yes, you will. Just do a full backup of your hard drive before, format the drive to give Linux some space and then recopy your backed up stuff.
