When you give the government the power to regulate you automatically create incentive for it to be co-opted by the entities it is supposed to oversee (look at the strong industry connections in agencies like the FDA and the size of political donations made by banking cartels).

The less power it has the less likely it is for people to want to buy it.

I don't disagree with Greenwald's premises but I find it interesting that he dances around the obvious elephant in the room. The greatest enabler and tool of oppression for the powerful is the government. The reason why 'equality under the law' is being ignored is because the entity writing and enforcing the laws is completely invested in preserving the system.

This is why any solution that begins with "regulation" will not work. Government is not your friend or protector.

A partial answer is a complete decoupling of business and government and dramatic shrinking of governmental authority. The more power you give a government the more areas in which it will abuse it.
