Thats what direct cutting means... the forager cuts and then picks up in one operation. it looks like an ordinary mower but with an auger at the back to direct it in to the feeder house of the forager.
@lex580 what he's trying to say is that you couldn't get enough acres throught he machine per day with a direct cuthead, most are only 17feet, the big m will cut 30ft and leave it in a row so you have higher output if you have a larger maybe 700-1000hp harvester.

Direct cutting would not work because with large acres and extremly hot days if wait to let it dry standing before you start
you wont have enough time to get it in before it drys up
