My mother died some sixty years ago while I was away in then East Pakistan.It was a

tragedy of unbearable proportions I would go with my younger brother to a not very elegant tea house to listen to this sad song with a painful feeling that it resonated

with the sad loss of my dear mother.This beautiful song reminds me of those

Here Shamshad is much better :-). Rafi sounds a bit 'bhains-like' in the lower parts of the scale.

Can we ever imagine Hindi film music without Rafi? Timeless and enduring and everlasting. And Shamshad With her inimitable voice? Others might have eclipsed her later, but it was she who gave a big push to Hindi film music before Lata came.
