  • It is so annoying when an interviewer does all the talking - especially with a modest person like many artists are. I just want to put some tape over his mouth.

  • The moderator is talking far too much. He should only let Richie talk.

  • This man has such a great voice

  • Ritchie Havens has a heart as big as a mountain and is one of a kind.

More than a folk legend, he's a national treasure and a great spokesman for the peace that our Good Lord would have us living in.

    God bless you Ritchie!

  • Yeah gotta add my 2 cents worth:

Geez Louise, Harold- Let Richie Freakin' Talk!

  • go ahead play on those pussy 9's

  • In my opinion, the best version of Jackson Browne's song "Lives in the Balance". Havens has a way of pounding the feeling out so beautifully.

  • I do not understand a lot (french). But I think the gentleman of the media is not very pleasant. Sometimes people of communication (TV, newspapers, politicians, civil servants) are afraid of artists because they speak another language, and often, a language still somewhat "subversive". For today, a bit of "humanity" is already subversive, in an ultra-mechanical world.

I think. Different "degrees" of humanity ; but the Order ( "social system" / Status quo) shall prevail... (?)

  • 29.03 Man passing by the camera LOL

  • lol its 3rd of may not 5th

  • The host sort of reminds me of jimmy carter.

  • looks more like Dwight D. Eisenhower, who by the way warned of the Military Industrial Complex

  • I love ritchie havens. He has such a beautiful soul.

  • This host sucks!!!

  • what is the song played at about 47:00

  • haha that host is funny.

    he's always like: yeah...right, right...right :D

and i have to agree that richies chair really looks cheap and not very comfortable! ^^

  • The host interupts Richie every time he talks! Let him talk- you might learn something old man! Richie is a living legend who deserves a much better interview than this.

  • Richie does look great. If you took the beard away he hasn't got a wrinkle on his face. So glad he's still around to tell us the real story from decades ago. He's a living legend. I was lucky to've seen him in 1972 at the Crystal Palace Bowl (London UK). I'll never forget that day.

  • What is the deal during the first "Flower That's Never Seen The Sun" when he's singing and someone just walks right in front of him when the camera is rolling. How rude. What is this show? Like a low budget public broadcast? Richie rules!!

  • Probably some stupid intern that got lost

  • yea, it's kind of hard to strtum a guitar when you have chair arms in the way.

  • the reason why he got the cheaper chair is because the hosts chair has chair arms, and it's very difficult to play guitar on a chair with arms.

  • they gave him the smallest chair or what?

  • HE should get the hosts chair, not the cheap one, not very respectful in that matter

  • He could not play the guitar in the host's type of chair-the chair arms would get in the way. Richie's a tough guy-he's from Brooklyn

  • Never thought of that, good point

  • just curious, why did you put "HE" in capitals

  • 58 minutes? how did you cram that into the youtube?!

  • Thankyou for this.

  • what a complete ass idiot this interviewer is...kill him!!!

  • Richie is coming to my town in 2 wks and I can't wait to meet him. He's playing a small venue (church). He is an amazing person and kind.

  • Those hands are monstrous, like Jimi's

  • I would really like to hear what Mr. Havens had to say,but the interviever keeps interupting.Regardless, R. Havens is a great talent.

  • Jan 5th 2008 my wife and i sat in the 1st row center for Richie. After the show was a ''meet and greet'' and we took 20 pictures with him and had a greattime. This was one of the best concerts to see.

  • I knew this guy could play, I never knew he was smart too.

  • Yes, a very smart man, more than people ever gave him credit for.

  • Richie is playing in my city of Saint Cloud, Minnesota tomorrow night AND I GOT TICKETS!!! AHAHAHAHAH, SUCK ON THAT, BITCHES!

  • I'm saving money to fly somewhere/anywhere and just listen mr.Havens a live! All the way from Finland. I hope dream come true sometime!?

  • good for you hes playing tomarro in sunny south florida "my home" tomarro as well

  • Oh, how I wish the interviewer would stop talking.

  • Seconded

  • thirded

  • This guy might not be the best interviewer but he obviously has a good heart and is doing what he likes. And he's bringing us Richie freakin' Havens! I also like the way he was uncontrollably grooving to Richie's playing, he almost jumped out of his seat. You have to like an old dude like that.

  • "Yeah, yeah, baseball, yeah, yeah, fairweather fan, yeah yeah, U.N., yeah, yeah, dinner, yeah, um hm, yeah, war, ye, nonsense, um hm, eh, yeah, yeah, you, you ,you were, yeah, writing..poetry, yeah, yeah, em, yeah, I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHAT YOU IS RITCHIE! yeah, um, yeah, you were only to the city once? yeah yeah, EXPLAIN YOURSELF, yeah, yeah, um, yeah..."

    SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • lol, for real

  • wow, what a crappy interviewer- jackson polack? yeah, yeah, - shut up an let dumbass havens express his b.s.- get some good mics on the music - where was this interview done? in europe? sounds like it - shit - it is NOT gettin' better!! it's 'bout the same

  • Harold Channer seems to be American. Can't think why you might think this was videoed in Europe. He is a poor interviewer though.

  • Man this dude keeps Interrupting Richie...let the man talk!

  • Richie seems of perfect sound mind here, he is a very intelligent man with excellent music, his views and what he has to say could learn mr Bush a lesson or ten! Thank Havens for Richie :)

  • Thank you for uploading this

  • Mr.Jones111: If Bush was elected another term, we would be BLOWN UP! Fuck Bush he put America into a hole that will take MANY years to fix. Long live Richie Havens!

  • Luckily, the Constitution assures us the freedom to express our opinions and decry injustices, hence preventing people like yourself from setting the tone of national debate. Stop drinking the right-wing koolaid. That "dazed state of mind" you refer to is just as easily evoked through a good dose of judgmental religion or right-wing denial of how our current administration has put this country into a hole that it won't soon get out of. Is this Senator Craig? Get out of my stall Senator.....

  • ALOE VERA,,,,......

  • Richie Havens is an absolute legend. Fantastic to hear him. Shame the interviewer is so aggreviating!

  • Thanks for posting! he's an underrated legend

  • Just seen Richie for the first time tonight in Holmfirth West Yorkshire UK,,,Absolutly Fantastic,,What a performer,,,Spoke to the man after the gig and shook his HUGE hand,,,Nice bloke........

  • Yes, he has huge hands. I had the pleasure of meeting him after a concert, and shaking his hand was being enveloped in a catcher's mitt.... and the fastest string changer I have ever seen. Thank goodness for the engineer who fixed the levels between the two mics. Pity he didn't accidently zero the interviewer's mike.

  • Well, you walk into the room Like a camel and then you frown You put your eyes in your pocket And your nose on the ground There ought to be a law Against you comin' around You should be made To wear earphones Because something is happening here But you don't know what it is Do you, MisterJones111?
  • You're a complete dickhead mate. A complete dickhead. Just like you , everyone is entitled to an opinion. Your's is irrelevant of course ... But you're still entitled to it. CLOWN

  • I wish the jackass interviewing Richie would shut up and quit interrupting him

  • DITTO!!!!! Very rude

  • Do you play music for its technicalities or for how well it sounds? Shut your mouth. Get a grip about personal expression.

  • what are your answers?

  • Okay this was three years ago so he's still with us.

  • Its wonderful to see the great Richie Havens talking and playing like this.Thankyou so much for sharing this.

    Regards

    Jim Clark
