when shooting a music video, do you play the actual song in the background(off camera) and let them sing to it, then in post, you lay the actual song over it...

If you have only one camera, shoot one master shot for the audio and some baseline shots - then go back and shoot the cut aways. For a much more detailed answer please go to nyvs and see the segments on music videos

@Rosenblumtv If Shooting a video say I have a software like "Avid Studio" would I be able to get away with using a consumer camcorder such as regular 1080p (Sony, Toshiba, etc) or do I need a DV cam for that professional look?

i would like to ask if in every angle i am gonna shoot is equal to one whole track of song ? like from the begining to the end? example: i'll have a mid shot of the lead singer. i'll shoot it from the start of the song till the end. then i'll make an extreme close up to him and repeat the song agian. is it right? or its the complicated one? what's the easiest way to do it? thank you :)
