If you have goods, but no Consume (IV) powers (such as when you only have Alpha Centauri and no other face-up cards), then you keep the goods; nothing happens to them. If you have a Consume power, such as that on Public Works, you would need to use that Consume power.
What happens if I have "Alpha Centauri" with a good on it, but I don't select Consume before another player? Does my good get discarded or just it just stay there? In the rules it says "All players MUST use their consume powers to discard goods for victory point chips and/or card draws."
