Nothing like as good as the original - they completely rob it of its energy. The only plus point is the clarity of Tom's voice meaning I finally get to find out what some of the lyrics are.
Wow, what this song really needed was to be turned into a sub-Interpol dirge with an unnecessary twinkly Casio piano preset interlude. Good work Editors!
They ruined the song, undeniably... and there is something I don't get: what's the point of listening to bands that sound all the same??
Stereolab were always very original and pretty inventive, you can easily recognize their sound... whenever I listen to Editors I can hardly differentiate them from Interpol
i cant say that i dont like The Editors - I haven't heard enough of them; they're too fashionable for me to listen to. However, this is a very good cover of a classic track.
Oh what a faux pas I made not realising they had stripped the "the" prefix. How modern, exciting and innovative. I really deserve to be slated for that and I am currently hanging my head in shame. How will I ever show my face in good company again?
@decorativeedison i'm with you...i havent listened last LP yet but i liked back room and a little less end has a start...he has a great voice live shows...but this is trash, where is that continue sensation of going higher every rift that original had?
This is dullest stuff i've ever heard. With his voice the cool song is dead.

good try, but they make it sound so theatrical yet dull.

The band do a decent job, but it misses a female voice.
The Raveonettes version is better.

Much prefer this version to the Stereolab one, Editors do songs better than most and this is just another example
castleraider 1 year ago
@castleraider I agree. It is impossible to ruin a song with Tom Smith's voice. I gave the original one from Stereolab a try and didn't really like it.
Sorry Stereolab fans.

@SpaceMonkey1983
That's only because you:
No.1 Editors is your favorite band
No.2 You heard this one first.
It is a great cover, but nothing compares to the original.
It's like The Ramones, covering The Doors, great cover, fucking brilliant, but nothing compares to the original.
Love,
V&U

Congratulations to the Editors for completely stripping this song of all it's vigour and excitement. Quite a feat.
