Live on the fly streaming video with uploading and users is not covered in any of those packages. what you showed can be used for non media driven websites. I think $5000 inc hosting for a VERY complex EDF site is a very reasonable price, the EDF site is not a basic DIY-site where you can use a freebie-in-a-box-shit... and still look respectable. So let the web designer of the EDF tell you what's up here. Currently we're spending $60 a year for our current hosting package, plus $7 a year for our domain. Ventrillo, $240 a year. Future Plans: Dedicated flash media server for a video site (lots of cash needed), full web-based conferencing capabilities ($6000 a year). And so forth!

As you see, it's expensive to spread the word of truth. Also, note those are just the hosting cost, not the building expenses.

You are completely right. You can host with "unlimited bandwidth" and storage space for less than $5 a month. But with that said, a site like youtube would NEVER WORK on such hosting because "unlimited bandwidth" doesnt exist. Its a marketing strategy. Every web illiterate without a frontal lobe-lobotomy knows that. To host such an intensive site, you would need dedicated servers, worth $150+ /month (cheapest).

With that said, please do your research before you throw around false accusations.

No one said that the cost for DEVELOPMENT would be $5000. That is a figure that it would take to maintain a dedicated server that will handle all the bandwidth for site that would be a product of Youtube, myspace and ebay ON TOP OF a flash webcam and audio chat service for up to a year.

If you look into it, these are all the services EarthLastHope announced he wants to offer on his site. Look around and see how much that would cost to maintain. Once you find out, THEN make your claims.
