External cardiac compression is almost always "done" wrong on TV shows and in movies. Partly due to modesty issues when a patient is a female character, and partly because actors portraying patients prefer to not have their chests bruised and ribs cracked.
Finally, NO ONE wakes up and walks around after receiving CPR as their only treatment. The chance that CPR alone will restart a stopped heart or in any way repair a misbehaving heart is basically zero.
