This isn't a giant trebuchet. Just mid-sized.

Octagonal/hexagonal arms are inefficient, and time-consuming to make.

Dry-fires aren't a good idea.

If the rock-box was loaded he'd need a winch to cock the thing.

1st. He said it is a trebuchet, not a specific sized one.

2nd. WTF do you mean the arm shape is inefficient? Straight is about the only issue needed to fling something. Perhaps harder to make, depending on the production method, but not necessarily if you laminate.

3rd. Dry firing a trebuchet is fine, same as a catapult. You are thinking ballista/crossbow.

4th. With the leverage advantage, you could easily lift 500 pounds like he is doing.
