Marathons are much different than hiking... try doing over 90 VERTICAL miles during a thru hike!

For me - the worst part of the AT are the people. They all think they have a right to be in your face and your buisness. Never occured to people I was there to be ALONE. You will not get privacy on the AT.

crazy4honda - you wouldn't last the first mile from Springer Mountain! I think you know that and so you sound to me like you're trying to cover up your insecurity by being stupid. If you do venture out on the trail, I hope you serve as the first course in some bear's dinner.

@earlymusicus I have run two marathons in my life (yes, full 26.2'ers....both under 4:00, both within the last 7 years)....I think I can handle a hike up a mountain.
