  • rotary's r dope.

  • its still dumb, its still a waste of money, and its still a MAZDA. bummer

  • The thing with a short ram intake is the fact that yes you are getting warmer air but you get more power in the lower end. But the thing with the secret weapon intake is they have a ram air kit that you mount towards the bottom of the bumper and you get a cold air charge as well as the response of the short ram. So it gives you power off the line but you also get that cold air charge for power in the top end like a cold air intake. End of story, it's a really nice intake.

  • can somebody tell how to put it together?

  • lol idk what kind of intake to get for my rx8 lmao HELP ME!

  • hey man the intake sounds great. fuck the haters. i think its sounds good and looks good.

to all you dick heads posting on this vid, if he loses any power its only at the toptop end, and maybe a 5hp loss at the most. the short ram is better for torque numbers. thats why he wanted it.

  • your rx-8 is stick shift huh?

  • oh you silly idiots who don't know shit go read import tuner

  • AEM or Mspeed. And no you really wont feel the difference because the gain is so small. And in the case of a short ram intake you actually lose HP. Go check out RX8 club some guy did this test already with a similar intake and actually was at a power loss after saying that he felt the increase in power ect.ect

  • Listen here Guy this is a video that shows the different mods I put on the RX8 and not sure if u drive an 8 or not but i do see a difference when auto-crossing, and yes I have been to rx8 club and I am also a member, I like this short ram due to the performance I get from auto-crossing the 8

  • Did you dyno it? You do realize the hot air from the engine is being dumped back into the intake. I had the same intake before I sold it. I had -4 HP LOSS compared to the stock intake. Yeah that's right, the stock intake was better. All short-ram intakes are all sound, and NO performance. Got a Mazdaspeed CAI, dyno'd it and there was a +3 HP increase.

  • @h2h2h2h2 more looks than anything but it differs out to be more air that's sucked in...atleast that what i know with my car a integra every cars different and the intakes differ in the positions they are at..more hot air to less hot air depending

  • well said - another boy racer taken in by very clever advertising! when will they learn noise does not men power. the only reason people buying junk make wild claims is because they feel ashamed that what they bought mkes no difference. the car is faster with the original filter and housing. learn about airflow and engine intakes. you will see you have been conned, go on how much did you pay!!!!!! learn about vacuum, velocity and why induction kits slow engines down considerably.

  • @DemosSouthpaw that's because you don't have as much velocity if you have a bigger diameter short ram, but you increase throttle response.

I had a homemade 3" short ram with the filter sitting straight off the throttle body on a Del Sol, and power wise it was about the same. But as soon as I hit the throttle, it would move.

  • lol short ram plus rx8 equals someone who has enough money that they buy it jus for the looks and to fuck the preformance of the car in the ass

  • sounds ok..but Simota intake is better

  • you should put a heat shield around the filter area.. you'll get better results. The K&N's come with it if you buy a cold air intake.. just putting out a tip. The colder the fuel mixture the more Hp you gain. lets say if you add nitrogen to your car.. all you injecting in the car is cold shots of air or liquid =P

  • is it easy to hook one of these bad boy's up? i just got my rx8 a week a go and im hoping to get a cold air intake. any brand thats better than others?

  • no its really easy to install an intake. personally i would recomend weapon r. you definitely feel the difference when you put it on and drive with it

  • dose it affect the smog check?

  • I wouldn't get anything else other then MazdaSpeed or AEM.

  • @h2h2h2h2 and being the cost of MS items so high, AEM is where its at. just finished installing it. will be posting videos soon!

  • racing beat racing beat racing beat, and thing else is !@%$

  • is it me or does the engine still sound cold?

iunno i might be wrong, but just want to know

  • yeah... no offense but these guys are right. The only intakes people typically recommend for the 8 are the racing beat, AEM and mazdaspeed (same as AEM). And even those see barely any gains.

  • Short ram intakes bring more air into your car's engine, which creates more power during combustion. Short ram intakes will help with throttle response and gives your car more power, while at the same time adding a pleasing induction sound to your engine under acceleration. A short ram intake also significantly cleans up your under-hood appearance and makes it easier to see and access components of your engine bay

  • nice copy and paste u noob

  • yes short ram is for short racing. cold aire is for long drags. btw i cant w8 to get thet for my 95 ford escort lx =)

  • ok so let me get this straight the im getting hot air in my intake even though the intake is right next to the coolant fan which controls air coming form outside the car in to the engine. That just dont make any sense to me, i understand the CAI will get colder air when routed under neath the engine area riddle me this though short ram is for take offs and launching is that not true.

  • Engine bay temps get to 200F during IDle... The stock fans don't turn on until a temperature of 170F? how are you getting cold air compared to the stock intake which had its nose outside of the engine bay while your new intake is in the engine bay?... explain... a short ram intake is only possible on the rx8 when you cut a hole in your nose or use the RB duct which doesn't even supply a ram effect until 60+mph. You obviously aren't apart of a more educated community.... join rx8club to learn

  • @foxtrot870 he's right dude. short rams aint worth it on the 8. i just finished installing my AEM CAI and its fucking sick, but i was amazed by the size of the filter and the how direct the stock intake is, i think stock > short ram in the rx8's case. oh, and i own an rx8, so i can talk shit. you made a bad choice getting a short ram and i thank god i didn't buy the K&N and shelled out an extra 100 for the AEM

  • secret weapon intakes arent cold air intakes. its just an air intake with two different sized tubes to increase air flow. you will get the same effects of a cold air intake, if not more of a HP gain

  • @jyager281923 if its a problem use heat wrap

  • Why would you go from a stock CAI to that?...

Might as well move your rev limit to 7k dumbass...

  • Look it here dumb-ass, do u own a RX8 if not then dont comment, until u own a rotary engine then talk shit, and 2 the RX8 does not come with a stock CAI it comes w/ a standard box which blocked by the enormous plastic cover it comes with. 3 the reason i have the Secret Weapon R short ram is because of the auto crossing i do in it, if you know anything about that u know u need great take and launch starts, so next think before you talk Ass.

  • You sir are an Idiot... did you notice the VFAD in your bumper and the GIANT FKN hole that leads to the outside?... STOCK it is a tuned Cold air intake... do some research... hence why the best intakes only net 3.5hp at best and thats mostly because its a different filter. I own a 2004 RX8 GT in velocity red with a RB intact + duct, Prolite Flywheel, MS Coilovers, MS exhaust, and AP pullies... Soooo do some research because now your sucking in nice warm engine bay air...

    DUmbass

  • hahahaha... Well played good sir, well played! hahaha

  • Yeah you never show your face cards until the other guy has proven himself a complete idiot..

I have a recommendation for the above douchebag and that is rx8club(dot)com Do some reading and you might learn something about your car instead of making it worse and loose power!!!

  • did all that improve your rx8 by much?

  • I would suggest taking foxtrot870's advise and do some research on what the rx8 is all about! Also, I might recommend taking a grammer class of somesort ... Might do you some justice! :D.

    have a nice day!

  • @jyager281923 I really hope you're joking. It's been discussed several times on the rx8club that you actually lose horsepower by using a short ram intake. Even a K/N Cold Air intake you loose 1-2 hp that's how good the one Mazda put in the car is. The highest gain you can actually get from an intake is around 2-3hp and that's usually with the RacingBeat iRev Intake or the AEM intake and is barely noticeable for autocrossing... tires and suspension helps for autocross.

  • topping off your oil twice a month is no more inconvenient than filling your gas tank once a week is... all cars depreciate... and RX8's are not the worst in resale value, Mazda just bumped the drive train warranty up to 100,000 miles, so I'm not worried about my Renesis... if someone wanted to get 8000hp out of a rotary it would be possible... I was just making the point that rotaries are capable of making power. I'll let you know when my 8 hits 80k so far I'm at 60k... without any problems...

  • hey bud... look up Abel Ibbara... he drag races an 1800hp rotary... a 20b 3rotor... and it kicks some serious ass... as far as longevity, ok, recipros have got us there, but a recipro is also more than twice as old as a rotor... a lot more time to fix the imperfections that once plagued them... the new 16x is supposed to get 30% better hp, tq, and fuel economy... and be lighter than the current 13b... lastly, I'd hardly call the extra $3 quart of oil once a month an inconvenience...

  • That intake sounds like crap. Move the fittings to fender or up front next to the rad.

  • haha my short ram K&N sounds way better you were better off leaving it stock

  • take hot air from the engine to decrease performance.. use the stock airbox now or increase your weapon r piping to the fender or in front of your radiator.. im serious.... :)

  • useless in everything else?? really?

well lets see, I own a 8 and I use it as a every day driver. is it possible to boost it to 700hp?? sure it is u just need the key thing *money*. 200,000 miles? rotaries were known to reach 237,000miles. 25mpg thats a point for you, but seriously buy a hybrid if u cant afford another $20. oil consumption another point for u, but thats one characteristic of rotares, they love oil..

  • the most powerful 8 I've seen is 619rwhp... (I've heard that there are some ridiculous ones in Japan) pretty impressive... although I avg 17-18mpg on the freeway... it's not an economy car, if you want economy buy a corolla... a BMW M3 burns just as much oil and sometimes more than an RX8 (I used to work for BMW), so it's all subjective, these cars do what they are designed to do... no complaints here, I won't be getting rid of mine anytime soon...

  • 619hp is really not that hard to get with a rotary, just throw a 3 rotor on the baby and turbocharge it :D... I agree, if ur looking for and economic car why get a sports car??

    no complaints here either

  • a 3rotor is capable of a LOT more than 619hp, 619hp IS a lot for a Renesis or any version of the 13b for that matter...

  • sounds bad

  • i think it wouldve been a little better to put the intake in the fender because what your inake is doing now is sucking alot of hot air due to the hot engine but other than that your intake is pretty sweet.

  • how is the Dragon intake

  • i heard the weapon r intakes have decreased the performance in the rx8 in some cases.. have you dynoed your ride after the intake?

  • I just put the Weapon R Secret Itake on my 1999 TL. It thunders now. Money REALLY well spent, my mechanic works at Acura and advised me against it. Now he's as stunned as I am. The stock air box on the 99 TL is pretty hi-tech itself and I had a K&N in it. There's no camparison now: the car is pulling like a demon. Thanks Weapon R!

  • does anybody has an answer to the question below?

which intake is better the short ram intake? or the cold air intake?

  • yeah dude its simple, depending on how you drive your ride. For short distances and power in the city go with the short ram intake for more pull and more torque in the take off. Now for highway speeds i would recommend the cold air intake for top end speed. But i got my short ram and I love it. good luck man

  • @jyager281923 im trying to get an intake. i was looking at the weapon-r dragon. what u think?

  • I heard the Weapon R is better then a Cold Air intake... Is that True? Doing some Homework before blowing my money.

  • Damitt!!! This guy doesn't know how to rev a rotary engine ; you are supossed to rev it hard, make it scream . Rotaries love to be rev hard, thats were they mahe their power.

  • thats why the 8 won the rolex 24 eh? and stock keeps up with the m3 on circuit track? you are part right with the fact its not a drag car. but the handle of this car crushes the competition when it comes to the new Z, BMWs, etc. :bitchslap:

  • This one sounds like an airplane!

  • I heard Weapon R Secret Intakes are the best Patented technology intakes in the world, and also the most HP/TQ producing. Their short ram secret will out do any competition, including CAIs as well. Might not look as good, or be as known but that dual pipe design helps...Alot.

  • HAHA so how long have you worked for Weapon R? :-\

  • I Love The Sarcacism. It was something I heard, like I said from the gate.

  • Looks very nice. I'm trying to decide whether to get a CAI or a set of underdrives for my RX8. The underdrives should give the same gains as the CAI, but they might mess with the AC and alternator so i dunno. Nice rex though.

  • The HKS intake is by far the best. Just the sound alone even over stock exhaust is alright.

  • Dont buy this crap! i've been tuning my focus (the right way) and this was one of the mistakes. I dont know how you got the MAF adaptor to fit but mine didn't come with it. If you dont have an MAF sensor in the way this intake cranks out MAJOR hp and tq gains, but its horrible for everyday driving. The way this intake works is unique but just get a CAI system with a bypass valve. (with a MAF adapter.

  • Well befoe i had the intake my freind and i took some notes on the differances. Their is a big differance in the compression ratios and the tourqe. I believe I feel most power out of the hole in the low gears it pulls alot more then the stock air box. You are probably correct to say that not much then a few hp comes from an intake but i must say thier is a differance.

  • hmm do u if weapon R makes cold air intakes for tha rx-8?

  • NO they do not make cold air intakes just short ram because i asked about that and I got the secret intake, if you want a cold air intake i would got with the MAZDASPEED CAI.

  • They have an extension (Black tube) you can buy from Weapon R and then you can make a true cold intake.

  • Do you know for sure it helps durig low rpms, or can you really feel it? Only reason why I question you is because from what I know, intakes don't really help the 8 for more then a few HP. I have the HKS racing suction myself and I don't notice crap, only great sound.

  • rx8 sound clip (AEM intake, high flow cat, Greddy SP2

    look up the video

  • that thing sounds nice. i love rx8's but i still love my maxima ;).

  • thanks man appricate it, thanks for looking and listening.

  • its just special. no just kidding i like it because of the acceleration part in the low gears but top end it just sucks gas but its all good though. its also good in autocross when coming out of the turns for quick pick up speed.

  • What is so special about this intake?

  • thats is the sound of a rotary engine.

  • what is that beeping sound
