After my HS-6, I bought several EL-range instruments, ending with the EL-900m. A few days ago I bought an HS-5 to have at my parents' when I am on holiday here. After a while you start discovering some great sounds again. :D
Sounds like the touch control is broken on that key. Turn off touch and see if they all sound the same. You may need a Technician to have a look at it.

My EL60 also facing same problem, both lower and upper e keys. Dfinetely need a technician to fix it.

Die HS klingt wahrhaft nicht schlecht trotz all den Jahren ! Hab selbst eine HS-8.
