How on earth is that hit anything near clean? It was 1) high, 2) from behind, 3) late, and 4) borderline elbow. Carter hit Salmela the exact same way. Do you see a pattern here? He did not jump off his skates.

It was within 3 seconds of the pass.

Basketball is good for guys who like to just score and not play defense. Hockey is a tough sport and if you don't like seeing people get knocked out go watch guys run back and forth for an hour. Clearly you are a homer Flyers fan. Dirty hockey is the only game in town in Philly. This his is not legal and is cheap because of it. The "wisdom" of the NHL found no problem with it. They also found no problem Ovechkin's knee on knee hit with Gonchar in the playoffs last year. They are giving special treatment to star players. It is sad but true. I will video reply above with a hit that the NHL did say was illegal. You will see the only difference is that the hitter was not a star player.

Situations like this is why the instigator penalty needs to be eliminated. Richards should have paid a price with a nice beating. Too many of this crap is getting by because it looks clean. Dirty career ending hits don't count as "clean" in my old school thinking.
