@3sugarbeans-Can you please make a video regarding on how to train an untamed cockatiel to love you??? There was this kid who made a video about how to train you cockatiel to love you...I don't love it...I want you to make it...Thanks! Anyway, I call my cockatiel "Kirby",too..I <3 your cockatiel! Cool Color!
To Thekicki123 okay, cockatiels don't need a partner bird. Curby (or however you spell it) has a partner...his owner. And about wing clipping, it is cruel, but I've known birds that have flown into windows and died. It depends on what house you live in. It can be cruel, and it is okay, they can still fly, just not up and away. I promise I'm not trying to be rude, but it is for the safety of pet parrots.
@jdpeck100 : well, what you say about a partner is incorrect. A human can not replace a partner bird. Cockatiels build strong relationships and spend every minute of their lifes with each other. While the owner is not at home they suffer. Furthermore a human can not practice the species-specific behaviours with the bird. And that is a fact. If you google or read specialised literature everybody will tell you that it is better for the bird to give him a partner.
this has nothing to do with species-appropriate "care". 1. Cage is much too small. It's like being trapped in a lavatory 2. she has no cockatiel partner, which is the MOST important thing for those animals, since a human can never never NEVER, substitute that 3. clipping wings?! that's not ok, its cruel. If you would ask your birds if that is ok for them i guess they wouldn't agree.
are you going to make a other video on how to care for parakeets and can you make a video on clipping wings pleease and is the new flight cage your last video
What do you do when you are gone for more than a day? do you take your birds along? Just asking because I am thinking of getting a cockatiel but I might sometimes be away for 1-3 days. On normal days I would be able to let her out even more than an hour so I'd want to buy about the size of your cockatiel cage...
Hi thank you for this video it helps me better understand the care of a cockatiel because I'm getting one in a few weeks and I'm gonna take care of it this video was very helpful in my research of care for my bird thanks!!:)
this is amazing, and its really helpful thankyou! i have just got a cockatiel and im only about your age and he hisses and bites me but im trying to get him use to my finger by putting my finger there and if he bites dont give him millet spray, adventually he let me touch his crest!!! anwyays, thank you for these tips
I do prefere waterbottles, water stays cleaner in them, but it doesen`t mean that you must not clean that bottle every day and change water, if it is really hot summer or very light place for cage you may need to clean waterbottle twice a day.
hey i dont know if my cockatiel is a male or female.(i bought it in christmas and they din't tell me if it was male or female!) it has a big red or orangey spot on its cheek. *BTW its white with yellow* can you plz tell me thx! and these tips help me alot!
Hey you are so knowledgable about your pets I remember when I was younger I used to save up about 100-150 bucks extra just in case I forgot sumthing lol about your age took like a year :) and I want a tame cockatiel but should I get a hand reared or not and tame it myself just for bonding with him/her I've have ring neck parrot frendly little bugger 5 stars for the vid
im getting a pet cokatiel soon and wondering if anyone knows how to tell the diffrence between a female or male cockatiel(im hoping for a male)? and i need to know when i get him because i can't buy a bird take it to the vet get a dna test find out its femaleand take it back...soo does anyone know?!PS.i love your pets!
@32Animallover Males have a large red dot on each side of their face. Females have a grayish one. If it's a white-faced, then the males have really white cheeks and the females don't
i have a cockatiel but he bite s i went through all of the steps you reccomended and hes still biting also ive found another bird im not sure what bird it is though i was in my garden when i heard a weird chirping noise and its a pink bird but it was very ill and it was very cold at the time but i think its ababy because its feathers havent developed fully yet its sharing a cage with my cockatiel now and hes not ill any more but would you be able to find out what it is cheers
@kipper0479 Well how much time did you put aside for taming? It can take year. That was nice of you but, take it out of the cockatiels cage!! it's definitely not a good idea. Ifit's a baby it needs to be handfed, kept warm, fed electrolytes, and released back into the wild when it's an adult. It's illegal to take birds out of the wild and care for them. Do take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center as soon as possible b4 it starves to death! it shuld be fed a special formula by experts! Please!
@3sugarbeans i have found out what it is its a bourke parrekeet and petshop people and they said its ok if i care for it unless some one claims it and i handfeed it
@3sugarbeans Do u know much about bourke parrots because thats what the pink birds called would u be able to make a video about bourke parrots cheers.
Did your bird start out with a grey face? I have a bird that the breeder says is a white face and will have white cheeks after the first molt but right now he has a grey face.
I want to get a cockatiel but i have some questions. What is the size cage you have i want a good cage for my cockatiel i get many different sizes options some say 18 18 24 some say 18 21 28, how often do you take your birds to an avian vet, should i get it from a breeder or Petco. PLease Answer
@Levinjac3900 Please do NOT get a pet from Petco or Petsmart or anything like that! They honestly suck ;) A breeder is a great idea!! A good rule of thumb is at least 20 inches by 20 inches wide, and 26 inches tall as a bare minimum. I only take them to the vet if something is wrong with them. Thanks good luck!
@abuzohair1 I'm sorry I cannot answer that. First of all, getting a bird because it's cheap isn't a good reason to choose that bird. If someone can't afford to buy a cockatiel at full price, they surely can't afford to keep a cockatiel. They require the expense of food, cages, vet bills if something goes wrong, toys, etc. Sorry but it's the complete truth. You want quality, health, and vitality in a bird, not a low price. Kirby was full price, at about $60 more or less.
We just got a cockatiel, he's a 2 year old plaitminum or grey (I don't know sorry) and this video has helped me.
Because I don't think he was handled much with his last owner, we keep finches and have been giving him millet as a treat so I'm glad to see you do that too! Thanks for posting your video, really appreciate it!
You're a very intelligent young lady. Great job with this video. I'm in agreement with everything you say except your bird's diet. Most avian vets would suggest you put your bird on a pellet diet. PS I love your whiteface cockatiel.
@mshockey73 Thanks!! But thats funny cuz I switched everyone to a zupreem pelleted diet! I had no idea how bad seed is for them! They dont eat hardly any seed anymore :)) This video is kinda of out of date, I know
wow she is dumb ur right lol and also sugarbeen thats a very common color and uts white head cockatiel i have 19 and 12 are white heads it shoudnt have dust i never clean my room and that never happens i suggest getting that checked
i got a cockatiel that was parent fed and he would come out of the cage and sit on my shoulder i loved her but she died within five days :(:(:(:(:( I HATE PETCO!!!!!!!!!!!
@cockatiel890 Aw, im sorry, but were you caring for her properly? Were you giving her access to fresh food and water all day? how big was her cage? i am very sorry, petco is not my favorite place :(
@babygirlx24 plus on top of that you said that you handfed it when it was a baby in your other video but in this one now you say that its not hand tamed.
Great video! Although, I do disagree with 'any type of food is okay' A lot of pet stores will tell you that cockatiels will live to be about 7, when really they can live to be 30! A proper diet is essential for a happy healthy bird. A high quality seed mix (like Fiesta max) or a Pelleted feed is best. Also, I would like to suggest a few more toys in your cages. Birds need lots of things to keep happy, and I'm sure your lovebird would appreciate a few bells and paper toys. Keep up the good work!
@nigagigahiga most shower perches have a suction cup on the end, and you stick it to a tile or plastic shower wall. or if you have a stainless showe caddy, you can get bendable rope perches that will attach to them.
i got a Cock and i have had him for 5 months and every time i put my finger in the cage to try and put him on my finger he runs away and i have put a millett in the cage he eats off it he and does not run away i dont no what to do?
oohhhh she is so cute! i have a boy cockatiel named Skittles but he has the bright orange circles on both of his cheeks ^-^ he is verry trained and u seem like u know a lot about them! wich is a verry good thing for a cockatiel owner :) also, try to tame your love bird, even wear a glove if he bites u but then he will know that u wont hurn him, also, if ur not going to try to tame him get another one so then he has a buddy :) thanks 4 the info too!
@xoxostephanie101 The lady at the pet store said that GLOVES SCARE THE BIRDS SO DON'T WEAR GLOVES OTHERWISE HE WILLL BE SCARED OF U AND WILL NEVER BE TAME!!!!!!!!!!!1
@lemurfan123 well the lady at the pet store must be pre stupid because my bird is not scared of gloves. i guess it matters on the bird. but like if someone wore gloves and then tryed to cut its wing but then the bird got hurt. of course the bird will be scared of someone wearing gloves!
I know you probably won't remeber but do you know the make of your cockatiel cage or what the name of it is? :) It's a nice size and i thought it would go perfect in the corner of my room :)
hi great vid! you should probably add more toys and perches...just so its not too boring! also...you really should clean the bedding everyday...because all the poop, water, food, etc. that gets down there can create bacteria. :) check out my lovebird cage acceries vid!
OMG i need help with my cockatiel plrease reply back to me/ so anyways what i needed help with was how to train my cockatiel skittle not to bite? (have you ever had that problem before) and i also need help wit was how to make the cockatiel sing
Anyone know of a way to keep the little feathers from flying everywhere...i spritz them with water every morning but those small little feathers still float around

@nigagigahiga most shower perches have a suction cup on the end, and you stick it to a tile or plastic shower wall. or if you have a stainless showe caddy, you can get bendable rope perches that will attach to them.

lemurfan123 1 year ago
oohhhh she is so cute! i have a boy cockatiel named Skittles but he has the bright orange circles on both of his cheeks ^-^ he is verry trained and u seem like u know a lot about them! wich is a verry good thing for a cockatiel owner :) also, try to tame your love bird, even wear a glove if he bites u but then he will know that u wont hurn him, also, if ur not going to try to tame him get another one so then he has a buddy :) thanks 4 the info too!

@xoxostephanie101 The lady at the pet store said that GLOVES SCARE THE BIRDS SO DON'T WEAR GLOVES OTHERWISE HE WILLL BE SCARED OF U AND WILL NEVER BE TAME!!!!!!!!!!!1
lemurfan123 1 year ago
@lemurfan123 well the lady at the pet store must be pre stupid because my bird is not scared of gloves. i guess it matters on the bird. but like if someone wore gloves and then tryed to cut its wing but then the bird got hurt. of course the bird will be scared of someone wearing gloves!

hi great vid! you should probably add more toys and perches...just so its not too boring! also...you really should clean the bedding everyday...because all the poop, water, food, etc. that gets down there can create bacteria. :) check out my lovebird cage acceries vid!

Anyone know of a way to keep the little feathers from flying everywhere...i spritz them with water every morning but those small little feathers still float around
xamznaznx 2 years ago
you should feed a pellet diet instead of a seed diet because pellets are healthier
