I have to say with several years being clobber by a old friend of mine that 9912 was the play to beat, No one could touch him. I personally think there should be a play off between 9824 v's 9912 for the world championship!!!\
my buddies and I used to play tournaments lots of times it would be a low scoring game. Usually we only played 1 quarter, sometimes a half, you can get a lot of action in 1 quarter. Some times they would be high scoring ( 37- 34) or defensive battles (16-10), or blow outs ( 77-14).No offensive play is unstoppable. The screen plays out of the 98 formation if run to perfection are the hardest ones to stop.I like to mix up my plays the right play against the wrong defense will get you 4+ yards
all other formations except 8 didnt block well.my d were 9 4 &5.To stop the 9824 play you bring your defenderforward at the snap and you can make an immidiant tackle on the quick pass for a 2 yard gain. When you play a great player its hard to get 5 yards on a play.you can roll out and throw it back you can get big plays that way but also can get picked off.
I can stop all those plays I run them.9824,15, and the screens is the best out of the 98 formation. If I am hot i can stop the 9824 play for a 2 yd gain.Isnt easy but can be done.
@TheMusicman1971 i guess your trolling all the games now, like i am...LOL...I JUST GOT YOUR LOL MESSAGE IN REFERENCE to the baseball intellivision game aboujt it freezing.you are right about the 9924..i remember when it was 4th and 0,all you had to do was run play 78 and go forward for the guaranteed yard.my favorite was the 9313 play when u can run a reverse screen..or the 9124,which if your dumb opponent chased you back, you could eventually throw it and your guy would be wide open for the td
Very nice offense my friend. However, you haven't faced my defense yet. But you are really using the running game to perfection with the quick, but infrequent passes. Loved it.
I really did love this game when I was a kid- somewhere around 1980-81. We would stay up until 5 or 6 in the morning playing this game. At the time it was THE best football game. You can score tons of points and have fun doing it.
What can I say except "awesome!" I haven't seen or heard this since I had intellivision decades ago. The"swoosh" sound when you snap the ball. The "missle" sound while the ball is flying through the air. The classic cheering and whistling sounds that is the same in every intellivision sports game whether you were hitting a 2-dimensional home run or throwing a 2-dimensional td. It all seems like yesterday.
i remember you could taunt your opponent by pushing a wrong key when he was trying to push his button and you would get the infamous' "errrrrr!!!". Used to piss dad off something aweful!
I was 6 when dad got an intelevision. he was on a submarine and his navy buddies would have tournements that friendships ended over! I remember actually crying because you couldnt defend 9824!! Only to be smacked down by the computer when he got an Amiga 500 and we played gridiron. Great memories!!!
when you got to 4th and zero(yes,4th and zero)..you could run play7-8 up the middle and no matter what, you got the yard you needed...9 1 2 8 was the hail mary bomb up the middle
Man what a game. I carried this one on my move from Fla. to Cali in 87. I introduced my football buds in HS to this game and then burned them up. The best was the the QB be roll out to top right then hit the split-end streaking down the bottom sidelines. TD everytime! Or those massive holes the line-men opened up for a 30yrd gainer everytime! lol good times.
9824!!!!!!!! Unreal execution! the top to bottom screen pass was only beaten in the department of pure beauty by the bottm to top screen pass..... 9813??? not sure
9822 or 9813. Play 8 was Double Tight End Strong Right. Zone 2 was top sideline. Zone 3 was bottom.
9229 was mine. Play 2 was Split-End Left. Receiver #2 was the top and zone 9 was full down field, bottom of screen. The cross body pass. Roll to top of the screen, right from where the receiver left. As defender closes, fake to the up sideline and sidestep down and release. No 8-year-old could defend.
In this game, touchdowns were worth 7 points period. This game fooled me when I was in 1st grade gym class, and the teacher asked how many points a touchdown was worth. I immediately rose my hand and said "seven points!" with 100% confidence only for the teacher to tell me I was incorrect and for another student to guess six points and be correct.
Yeah....it's no extra points and no kick offs. I have very hazy memories of this. When it was first released it was fairly impressive, looking back on it now it hasn't aged well I guess
That play would get crushed by a 4 or 5 defense set on 1st and 2nd down. Then play the 8 or 9 on 3rd down. I'd audible the shit out of ya before the snap!
This was top shelf stuff! I bought one when I worked at Meijer for like hundreds. the cashier didn't think she saw the price for for being like $299 plus the games! Was in a close game with my brother until 4th quarter..and whoever made that damn reset button on the console like a huge E-stop....let's just say one accidental bump and it was new game! so much for the hour invested in the tie with seconds to go, ha ha!
myndenway, ditto....me and my brother played it back in 1980' ....I was 9. he was 13...played it for hours in the dark basement....he always destroyed me with the screen plays.

Uh, I am more than sure the pass you are referring to was 9924, not 9824. In fact, I know I am right as I still own an Intellivision and this game.

This game is very complicated! Madden 2011 much easier! I need to get better at this new Intellivision stuff. Maybe I'll just go play 360.

What I used to do is have the QB drop all the way back as far as he can then throw the ball, the receiver will wait in the end zone

9-7-2-3, man. It's all you need for a successful offense. Little screen play, you just got to time it right.

I think 9813 was basically the same play except the opposite end ran the pass pattern. Maybe I'm not remembering the correct number.
