why does the govnerment in that country allow this? the West can not buy these things if the country would outlaw the use of these chemicals. how are people in the West to know what the working conditions are in such a far away place?
the owners of the industry and the govnerment of the country are wrong to allow this. shame on them.
Just once, I'd like to see reporting like this on U.S. "news" channels! Actually there are 2 channels that show Al Jazeera World News; FreeSpeechTV and LINKTV .. They are hidden at the end of the channels in the 9000s {where most people won't find them}
I was having a bad day and feeling like shit. This video helped me put things in perspective. I hope these workers will one day have a "bad" day like I did.
Cheap leather products in exchange for the health and environment of the Bangladesh people..... Capitalism at its finest.... Let the free market decide
Not only are they exposed to toxic chemicals and given a terrible living, but most of the cattle those skins came from were illegally brought from and killed in India.
HDaviator: Our corporate media and even NPR and PBS don't want us to know about these things any more than they want us to see the dead and wounded from our wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia etc. We are treated like children by our govt and media. They'll continue doing so until we wake up and have our own Tahrir Square revolution.
We don't think about it when we are wearing our nice brand new nikes, etc. but i would not want to work in the environment with the pay they deal with. Poor guys.
privatization of a countries resources giant corporation make huge profits out of these people and then buy out more land and lobby take more possession of the resources regardless environment damage . stop the outside companies taking advantage divert all good towards your own citizens it better in the long term.
Al Jazeera is simply the best news source PERIOD. None of that Russia Today "selective reporting" where they skip over south east and Central Asian because of their political ties to the nations' leaders, none of that American rubbish, and no messing around.
Press TV is pro Iranian. It completely pardons a criminal like Bashar Al Assad, because he's a political ally. Ditto for Russia Today. Russia Today also covers up socioeconomic issues in Sri Lanka and India, because it supports the governments slaughtering innocent people.
Press TV is State Run (by Iran)
RT is State Run (By Russia)
Al Jazeera is private. No country runs it, so it's the least biased.
That's the absolute STUPIDEST theory I've read about ANYTHING.
India's slums and child-labor conditions may be "illegal" but they're still just as rampant as in Bangladesh. And you're talking about a political/Social conflict between a couple groups of people? HOW is that responsible for this in ANY way? India suffers from the exact same problem.
@MacMaraScott right an india is not a big shit hole itself? You 3 idiots make me laugh, you constantly bicker which shit hole dumb smells the least rancid.
watching this makes me really sad, i think people like us that live in the west should really be aware of this, but unfortunately no one really gives a shit
@HarunDanyal Just to clarify I am aware of the different working conditions and standards the world over. It just seems the whole work or be a burden mentality is common, and valid everywhere. And to all the people bashing capitalism these people are working hard for the betterment of themselves and their families. Things are getting better as their standard of living rises and they become wealthier these poor conditions will recede. These people used to starve, now they eat, and soon better.
This is shameful. But how come I only get to know about this in a short 2 minute video on youtube, while all of the major networks in the US are talking about celebrities and shit?
@HDaviator The Canadian media is talking about some royal assholes visiting Canada rather than how our consumer habits are giving these people cancer.
@HDaviator So you'll keep buying the shoes that bring them the profit off these people's suffering. The more those poor leather workers suffer, the more the big-wigs profit.

@dragon8me2 See what happens when you don't regulate companies. And to think republicans don't want any regulations at all.
