I must admit Ebenezer has more balls than I. If a ghostly shadow of a person i once knew dragged me to the sky to look upon the damned I would have covered my eyes much sooner than he did heh.
On another not, in my opinion even to this date I think Michael Hordern is still the best Jacob Marley.
No one has ever managed to hit the mark as close as he did with his forlorn delivery, nor been able to truly deliver the bone chilling scream that the book describes.
always favored this version. Jacob Marley is the shizz (never tell him he is an old potato or undigested beef), & i love Albert Finney as Scrooge. i still catch myself singing "i hate people", "i like like life" & "thank u very much", even when it's not x-mas season. :P
what's the commode/bed-pan thing scrooge hides his money in? I'm just asking cause i gotta get up alot at night &...uh, never mind. Still, I'd like to know. Any antique dealers out there...
I've played in several Dickens pieces: OLIVER!, The MYSTERY of EDWIN DROOD, and A CHRISTMAS CAROL Three Times!! It is the most Amazing piece of Theatre!
@dartanyon77 Scrooooge. You must come with me to Alderaan if you are to learn the ways of...oh hang on..wrong line.I`ll come in again ^.^ You`re right tho.Alec Guiness could turn his acting to anything ^.^
@Grifiki It was a commentary on the type of miserly person that the Parliament "poor law" brought into being. Scrooge stood in for a lot of people in England of the 1840's.

Always liked this version. I thought it was a lot darker than any of the ones the preceded it or the ones that have been made after it.

I never would have thought the character of Jacob Marley could be played with a slight comical twist but Alec Guiness does it beautiully.
