Beth Dito, however, is not merely a so-called "plus size" woman - she is morbidly obese. Over time, morbid obesity leads to joint problems in the legs because of the extra load. It leads to heart failure and diabetes type 2. My mother has been morbidly obese for many years and how has diabetes. Being in a normal BMI range is best for most.
After nursing a 91 year old anorexic sufferer recently, I can say it definitely is a disease and not something that people get to try and fit in with friends, or fit in with the media etc. It's something that will affect that woman until the day that she dies, so support and kind words are needed for these sufferers.

i was anorexic not long ago. i didnt eat ,i was starving! but every time i ate an energy bar or something i felt fat, i skipped breakfast and lunch and ate just an apple or some cereal for dinner .it took me a long time to eat normal amounts of food but now i still hate eating in public . i feel ashamed, i constantly run and do triathlon so i wont gain any weight, i hate feeling this way ,plus im just 13 yrs old,so NEVER encourage anorxica! i am proud to say that i weigh like any normal girl :)
It is irresponsible to suggest that anorexia is simply a result of society pressure - all of us get that, but we do not all become anorexic. Mary-Kate has other issues, most anorexics, and others who understand more about it, will have a good idea of what the underlying issues are.

If you have normal sized legs, the camera will still zoom in and next thing you know, your on the cover of a magazine that says "guess who's thunder thighs these are? You'll never believe the truth!" Its so much pressure for them to be perfect.. and anorexia is about control. Its what she chose to use to cope with the stress, just like some people use drugs or self harm..

I could use better wording but I figured you are already ridiculously ignorant to the fact that eating disorders are about control and underlying depression/anxiety and not so much about being thin. Sure it's a physically shocking symptom for some, but also not everyone with an eating disorder is underweight

Like with cutting, eating disorders, alcoholism, etc, there's deeper issues involved. I know some people who have the best people around - people who constantly give them love but don't spoil them either - but who still struggle with addictions. Nobody can prevent it from happening. Addictions are mental disorders. What part of that don't you guys understand?

@nanoleg2012 -- the problem is...they DO care...they just can't control it. it's an illness; pathways getting crossed in the brain..once it starts it's very hard to stop. I'm assuming you've never known anyone who went through it..You don't "let it be" You do all you can to get them help...sitting back and doing nothing is pretty incompassionate..I suppose you could do this if it was your own child or loved on suffering from it? Would you just "let them be"?

@jobyrox101 it was just Mary Kate, not her sister. And part of the reason they do it is because they are so famous. If you have normal sized legs, the camera will still zoom in and next thing you know, your on the cover of a magazine that says "guess who's thunder thighs these are? You'll never believe the truth!" Its so much pressure for them to be perfect.. and anorexia is about control. Its what she chose to use to cope with the stress, just like some people use drugs or self harm..

Just because someone has fame and money doesn't mean they're happy. You'd see it as being selfish, but I'd bet you anything both girls would rather be happy and normal than famous and rich. Don't judge someone just because of what the media portrays them as.
