He's the world's best martial artist and Luke Cage's best friend (They had an awesome team up comic in the 70's/80's that pretty much made them both almost A-list characters for a while). He doesn't have any real super powers but he can focus the chi in his hand to use the Iron Fist technique, which is a hyper powerful punch. It makes him very tired though. He usually sticks to just martial arts.

Marvel ( though under a different name) has been around since the 30s, and Iron Fist wasn't created until 1974. His popularity was always in flux, and never had much of a following. It would have helped if his costume back in the day didn't look like some nightmarish disco outfit.
