  • LOOK AT 2:38 it says in quotes `` if you have a broken leg, you might have to wait`` can someone point out when he said that, I sure didn`t hear him say that. he said ``if you want to see someone in respect to your knee`` stupid American propoganda feeding BS right in FRONT OF YOU.

  • @BostonCreamDonut he said it in 1:40

  • @RobbyIvanovic He said ``may`` and I`ve broken my leg once already, and ankle once before too, I went to hospital and was treated in less than half an hour. To be honest many Canadians find it arrogant for the US to critcise a health care system that for 1 is ranked higher by the World Health Organization, and 2 provides a life span on average 2-3 years longer than the Average American. Fix your own problems first before saying our system is bad.

  • @BostonCreamDonut dude i am a canadian and you asked when he said that or close to it

    and i answered it

  • Obnoxious interviewer, but a good video nonetheless. Clearly delineates American and Canadian healthcare. Good work, Mr. Dosanjh.

  • @ARepublicanVictory I'm Catholic you ignorant ass. I bet Jesus wouldn't agree with your potty mouth and homosexuality. Shame shame.

  • @MadHabber93 Well if you are Catholic, I am the Pope, you ignorant ass bastard or bitch.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Wow, so profound, so robust, so........gay. Good for you.

  • @MadHabber93 You are an idiot. Good for you.

  • @ARepublicanVictory An idiot is someone who has no originality and has to resort to repeating the guy who BURIED him the first time with the same quote he used to begin with. Wow, you're not just an idiot, you're a FUCKING DOUCHEBAG IDIOT. That's reeeeeeeeal good for you. Bwahhahahahahahahahaha

  • @MadHabber93 Well then you are that someone who has no originality and has to resort to repeating dumb socialist bullshit. Like I said before, you are AN IDIOT.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Back for more I see. No, and IDIOT is someone who says someone else has no originality, but steals the same line used against him as his defense. An even BIGGER idiot is someone who comes back 5 days later and says the same thing again. Really dude, give it up. Its now just getting silly stupid on your part.

  • @MadHabber93 You are talking about yourself. It continues to stay silly stupid on your part.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Wow, coming back with the same thing I just said. Now its 3 times. You're beyond idiotic. Bwahhahahhahahahahahahahahaha

  • @MadHabber93 I find the need to not waste words. You discribe yourself pretty well. You're beyond idiotic. Bwahhahahhahahahahahahahahaha

  • @ARepublicanVictory Four times. Hey, you are on a roll. Here's an idea for you for Halloween...a Parrot. Perfect!!!

  • this interview is flighting lights and yelling. It's really unfortunate that CNN chose to keep the discussion at a low level. All the questions related to public perception of Cdn HC and not to facts. This could have been a really opportunity to meaningfully analyze and discuss those differences in a non-dogmatic way. The interviewer is proud of his "hard-hitting" questions, but they're not hard-hitting at all. Like, the brain drain? That hasn't been a problem in 10+ years.

  • The title should be changed to:

"Ujjal states what any 10 year old Canadian could tell"

  • Anyone but "U" Ujjal. Get this anti-Canadian out of office.

  • When Sanchez could no longer win the debate he went to doctor shortage and he has a "tweet" from "somebody". Americans are a hoot. Who cares he got fired from his job later on from CNN.

  • @sabbirsa He is a fellow liberal. I thought you would like him.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Gee that's weird, your Heritage Foundation rates Canada AHEAD of the U.S. in terms of economic freedom. I always love it when an ass like you who has no fucking clue about Canada, let alone our healthcare system, tells us how long we wait. A year for a broken finger?? lol I was seen, x-rayed, referred to surgeon the next day, & splinted in 1 hour for a broken finger. Cost? ZIP, NOTTA! This is typical care. Of course, I know this, BECAUSE I FUCING LIVE HERE DUMBASS!!!

  • that CNN guy is a dick face yo

  • CNN is like a fucking talk show, they are so fucking biased

  • He is very right, sure the taxes may be a bit higher in Canada, but when you or your partner or children fall ill, you don`t have to pay anything and you will still recieve quality health care. Also he`s right these huge wait times that american news coverage loves to say all the time is not true at all, trust me they do not let you die in Canadian hospitals.

  • 6:18 i love it when Us reports/interviwers try to do that that thing and it backfires : D

  • I assume he's with the Liberals or NDP, he seems very good. Shame he's not Health Minister anymore.

  • The old "it's not free, nothing is free" argument is about as sophisticated as the More arrests equals less crime argument.

People like u are essentially the equivalent of a normal everyday Plumber walking into an emergency and attempting to conduct emergency surgery. U have no experience no concept of how the human body works but are convinced you can save a person life. Ur obvious ignorance does not deter you in the least. Read the actually government documents and not Glen Becks opinions.

  • Lots of jargon back up by one guy name and no facts. This is the link to the Congressional Budget Office website where the report resides. cbo .gov/publications/collections/health.cfm. It is pretty clear you are 100% wrong whereas I am 100% correct.

Also if you compare the average cost per person for similar procedures you will see that Canada is much much lower. I really wish you would stop trying to understand economics because it is quite clear you are out of your league.

  • P.S. If Public Health Care is "Socialist" then the US is the only Modern Western Country in the world that is capitalist because every other Modern Western country has some form of public health care.

So everyone else is wrong even though we pay less and get more for it.

  • @Pick1980a

There's no such thing as free lunch. You pay less at the register, you pay more in taxes. Money has to come from somewhere unless you've managed to come up with a different economic system whereby a service can be provided for free.

  • Lastly, no...you don't get "more for it." The quality of your healthcare is lower than the one in the US. You ignored my comment about how many influential people( from your country included) come to the US for treatment. Is it because the US has a bad quality healthcare? Again, common sense.

  • Can you imagine the current Canadian Conservative health minister answering these questions? She knows absolutely nothing.

    Dosanjh was articulate and smooth.

    Impressive!

  • "AH HA...so how big is your tax?"

I like how we says it in a tone that evokes "we are better than you cuz our government charges us less" . whoever this reporter is, he's kind of a loser.

  • Ujjal Dosanjh, thank you for not only speaking up for Canadian Healthcare, but for the other systems that come under attack.

  • fuck ujjal, this fagget is a fuckin cheap asshole and his wife is a bitch

  • WDF is this .....fuk all americans

  • I had a hip replacement in Canada and did not pay a cent. I had some pain but was not crippled and yup I waited for about a year, those in more severe circumstances went in front of me. If I had the money sure I could have gone somewhere else but I am not wuss like those Canadians who can't wait. If I was in dire need I would have gotten in sooner. I love our system here in Canada, screw the US system.

  • pussy,

  • Why are people who work for American news networks always yelling?

  • rick sanchez is a huge douche.

  • Comment removed

  • That CNN anchor's a total douche.

  • What is "many Canadians"?

I have lived hear my entire life and have yet to meet or hear about someone who has gone to the US for treatment. That includes cancer, strokes, heart disease.

No data supports that claim and "many" is hardly an accurate term. Props to CNN for continuing to erode the credibility of the network!

  • very few Canadians really ever go to the U.S for treatment,,,,virtually no one needs to - most have or borrow lots of money to do so too - totally unnecessary

  • @Pick1980a

Too bad you haven't head of any, but there are. There are many who cross the border, especially to Washington state, where they come.

  • @regelemihai Again with the word word "Many". Be specific or accept you have no idea what you are talking about. I have lived in the country and know many people who have lived in the country for decades and NO ONE i mean NO ONE I have come into contact with has gone to the US for health care of any kind. Please tell me you have figures for the amount of Canadian patients who utilize US health care and your not JUST TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS! Cause it sounds to me like you are

  • "NO ONE I have come into contact with."

Who cares what experience YOU had. If I'll use personal anecdotes will tyou believe me?( I've got a few).

According to the CNPS 17,276 Canadian residents came to the U.S for treatment in 2009. Granted, not a big chunk of the population, but it's not nothing.

FYI, just last year in February, Danny Williams, the premier of Newfoundland came to the US for treatment. Many other high ranking officials came to the US to get treatment, like Belinda...

  • ...Stronach who opposed the privatization of the Canadian healthcare system. Many others flock to the US for medical care like the prime minister of Italy Berlusconi. There are many more examples which I'm sure you'll handwave away, but the point stands.

I know plenty of people from overseas who live in Europe(Romania, Germany) who came to the U.S to be treated. A freind of mine--a victim of a terrorist attack-- was shipped to the U.S for surgery; not to Ol' Canada.

  • rick sanchez is so annoying/rude. He cuts into everything Ujjal Dosanjh is saying. He's interviewing someone but he acts like he already knows everything.

  • i totally agree that Rick Sanchez is annoying and not a very good or objective reporter, he seems kinda unprofessional sometimes ! and when he had his hair up with gel in it that was justg WEIRD ! lol

  • WOW I have never seen a reporter put on such a blatant show of disrespect. whew! I'm so glad our reporters in Canada aren't biased bastards trying to confirm their misguided ideologies ..and they don't repeatedly cut off or bark at guests when they're trying to speak.. I'd feel disgraceful for watching Fox or CNN if I was an American.. these people need to take a lesson from CBC and Peter Mansbridge. I really commend Dosanjh for delivering intelligent answers in a calm, collective manner.

  • rick sanchez seems pretty convinced that the u.s. health care system is better when he doesnt know fuck all about the canadian system.

  • America has the WORST HEALTH CARE SYSTEM within the DEVELOPED world. Italy, France, Canada, U.K, Sweden, Norway,Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and many other countries in Western Europe surpass the U.S.

The average American spends twice as much on healthcare as a Canadian. Medicine is also 2-3 times more expensive in U.S. than Canada (same exact medicine btw).

In the U.S. they check your purse, in Canada they check your pulse.

Canada has 2nd highest life expectancy in world.

  • @andyx1205

I'd really like to see where you pulled that stat from.

Regardless, expnsive treatment doesn't equal poorer quality. In fact Canada has a much lower qulaity in medical care. They check your pulse, but they feel more reluctant once serious medical attention is required. You can sit on waiting lists for a simple hip replacement for months on end--yeah, what a great model to follow! We spend more because we have better quality. In Canada the gov' bans essential medications.

  • @andyx1205 The japanese are the first in life expectancy, why???

They consume lots of tea and healthy foods

  • @andyx1205 Yes, tell that to Fidel Castro. He comes to AMERICA for heart surgery. He does not go to another socialist nation like Canada. So you lose. America does not want that rationing or poor quality health care that socialist Canada has to offer.

I broke my leg and was IMMEDIATELY seen for it. In Canada, you will wait an entire year. I like American health care system just fine. Fuck the rest-

  • @ARepublicanVictory where did you make up that Castro went to the US for heart surgery? Not only is Castro unlikely to be allowed permission to enter the US, it would have been major news. He also would have been more likely to go to Spain which has an excellent system.

Like everywhere, there is a triage system in place in the hospital. Urgent cases are seen first. I've been hit by a car and fallen down flights of stairs, and was seen immediately. Also never once saw a bill.

  • @wussyme I made nothing up. Castro knows that Communism is a failure and that American Capitalism and Democracy is great.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Provide your source if you didn't make it up. Castro never went to the US for heart surgery.

  • @ARepublicanVictory

What happens when you break your leg in Canada?

    1. Call ambulance: Response time, guaranteed, 8 minutes.

    2. Triage by an emergency nurse is instant when you enter hospital.

    3. Within minutes after triage, you will be seen by an ER doctor and your leg will be set, or you will be sent to surgery.

The only wait times are for elective surgery, which means non life threatening or necessary procedure. You're a victim of propaganda.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Now onto Medical Tourism. The country that practices medical tourism more than any other country on earth, is the US. More Americans, per capita, travel outside of their own country for medical treatment. A fact that the American people are kept in the dark about.

The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto performs life saving treatments on Americans babies and children that are not available in the US. Usually paid for by me and other tax payers.

  • @ARepublicanVictory Sarah Palin, and her family, used to access the Canadian health care system. Actor Michael Douglas thanked the Canadian system for finding and treating his throat cancer. In fact, he ripped apart the American system for misdiagnosing his cancer, and almost killing him.

There are dozens of other rich Americans that have and will be treated in Canada. Another fact that the American people are kept in the dark about. Ironic, isn't it?

  • In conclusion... It surprises me that there are still Americans that believe the myths and propaganda about the Canadian health care system, which happens to be rated way higher than the US system.

When a Canadian accesses the US system, they have to pay, and are usually seen before American citizens because the hospital knows that a Canadian, or Canadian government, will pay them.

Americans that come to Canada, usually scam the system, and rarely pay. My taxes pay for your people

  • @GreatWhiteNorth82 That is your opinion. But being a stupid socialist, you do not know better. Nothing in Canada is worth anything. Canada is among the most worthless and shitty countries I have ever seen. Canada is pretty much a useless and disgusting place. Americans come to Canada because it is a filthy socialist piece of shit country. Real Americans could give less than a fuck about that shitty place. American healthcare is just fine. Fuck socialist healthcare.

  • @ARepublicanVictory You are an idiot. Good for you.

  • Socialist healthcare is nothing. "How long must we wait?" "Uhhmm lets see, maybe 19 days." " He will be dead by then." "Oh well, that is the price you pay for free socialist healthcare."

    hahahahah

  • I'm Canadian and although our health care systems is far from perfect, its not as bad as many Americans make it seem. Yes there are wait times but they are prioritized by severity.

  • exactly.

I have actually never had a bad experience with Canadian health-care.

  • CNN quoted Mr. Dosanjh in their little flash box as saying "In Canada, if you have heart attack, you get to front of line." Mr. Dosanjh was linguistically correct in his statement, saying "In Canada, if you have a heart attack, you get to the front of the line". Did they cut those little words out to save space, or did they assume that because he is Indian-Canadian he doesn't speak english perfectly (which he does)?

  • The American host and his aggressive jeering questions were met with calm and collected responses by Mr. Dosanjh. I congratulate the Honourable MP for his handling of stupid american media.

  • this is complete and utter bunk. once again, the ignorant and moronic american mindset is being demonstrated here. rick sanchez is a clown. this interview is a joke. it's just one more attempt by CNN to boost their macho, american, "we're better than everyone" ego.

moreover, since when is a 'tweet' considered a professional source of information? fuck.

  • @crashinsert51 I feel sad that so many Canadians take Rick Sanchez wrong. He is a famous liberal CNN anchor who is strongly supportive to the health care reformation. In this interview, he just wanted Ujjal Dosanjh to contradict and clarify the rumor and criticisms made by Republicans. I don't know if you watch CNN. It's the biggest liberal news network in the U.S. and also a major supporter of universal health care. FOXNEWS is the bad guy. Calm down, Canadians.

  • @herifuzhenguan3

what the US calls liberal is conservative in many countries. I wouldnt call CNN liberal over MSNBC.

  • that was a tough and stressful interview dosanjh handled it like a pro (um bc he is one) and really didnt let the interviewer get to him while answering the questions very accurately.

Sure, Canada's healthcare isnt the best but I'd 100% have it over the current American one.

  • at 2:28 the message is funny cant even spell CANADAN to bad its canada or canadian but whatever when i snapped my wrist a nomal doctor couldnt fix it i had to see a specialist and i was there and fixed in two days

  • @ richie14196996 Who cares, english wasn't his first language. The most important thing is that if the person can do a good job.

  • the left person is too rude to the guest.

  • "Unable to attend this discussion"??? lmao he was too scared to have his lies proven to be exactly what it is ,BS!

  • Whats wrong with the sound?

  • I think the interview was fair. He did ask tough questions which reflects the doubts from Americans about Canadian system. The host is pretty good.

  • look at how cnn puts the negatives quotes on the screen as opposed to the positives.

friggin' yanks just let their media and government control their lives and don't give a crap.

  • The USA could fund its entire healthcare system by simply taxing booze and cigarettes like we do in Canada. Not income tax. Canadian cigs are $14 a pack (vs. $6 in the USA) and a quart of booze is ~$36 in Canada (vs. $16 in the USA). Think of the gravy if the US gov collected $8 off every pack of smokes and $15 on every bottle of booze, across the nation, every year. Don't even mention what marijuana could do - made for pennies, sold legally for huge profit and a tax component. Wow.

  • 80 percen of pantience in hospital in canada is full of america cuz they dont have universal heath care. they dont pay taxes n they using are system. canidian are more health. we dont go to much to to the hospital

  • Yeah, but if you have 300 million you have a much larger economy of scale.

  • population is actually around

    33 million

  • Where are you getting those numbers, Canada's population is nearly 40 million but i still see your point that there are over 300 million people who don't want to be taxed.

  • your kidding right? its dosen't matter on the amount of population, YES you have 300 million people and that means you have a potential 300 million people TO PAY TAXES, it really dosen't make a difference if your country has 10 million or 800 million, it is doable if you cut the crap with the politics, and you cant let pharmaceutical companies dictate to governments or else it will not work has well

  • @mejw1

It doesn't make a difference if you have to provide a good to 40 million as opposed to 300 million people? This comment doesn't strike as just a tad odd?

  • @regelemihai Actually it's called "Economies of Scale" it is a pretty basic economic concept. Unfortunately you are yet another armchair commentator who has little to no idea how business or government actually works. The Congressional Budget Office has stated that the plan will save money. I give you one guess why that is: It's in this post.

Let's see if you can get it. Do da do da .. do da doo .. do da do da .. do dododo ......................

  • @Pick1980a

Good to see you're willing to fabricate data. The Congressional Buget Office estimates higher costs, not lower. It estimates that it will cost at least 150 billion more. Not to mention the bill has uge tax hikes which means it will cost more for the tax payer, not less. Maybe that logic is too much for you to comprehend.

Economies of scale apply to companies, not governments. When you spread a good around rationing comes in. Hint: communism did not increase standards of living..

  • ...in the countries where it was implemented. Economies of scale apply to the production of a specific unit, of a product. A medical covergae, even you can understand, is not *really* the same. The government has no money, it's not a company. The government gets its money by TAXING people. You cannot spread coverage without taking more money out of the pockets of the taxpaer. Try simple common sense.

But if you want we can continue to talk about how the Healthcare bill is a disaster.

  • @regelemihai Your staggeringly ignorant

  • @regelemihai OK well for starters the Congressional Budget Office has a website where you can download the report in HTML or PDF. That document states it will actually save "$143million". Just figured I'd be specific.

Secondly Economies of Scale apply to everything which has wait for it "Scale" and has nothing to do with communism as it is a Capitalist principle. Ever heard of a "volume discount"? Same shit. Economies of scale asshole. Ugh I hate dumb people

  • The figures I gave you came from the CBO, you asspimple. 150 $ billion in addition to what is initially assumed it will cost. I know you might want to re-check your source because saving 143 MILLION is nothing.

The CBO's director Douglas Elmendorf himself said it will add to the deficit; not reduce it. 500 billion dollars in tax increases is not saving money for the teaxpayers. Simple logics flies right over your head.

My comment about your misuse of conomies of scale went untouched it...

  • ...seems. I mentioned communism in a totally different context. The principle of the theory is capitalistic, but I had also mentioned it is relegated to capital producing entites such as companies. You simply took the concept and applied it to government which is idiotic. Government has NO capital. It gets its money from the taxpaer. Simple enough sparky? When a service is spread around you get communism. After all, they did increase the "scale," right?

I hate stupid arrogant people too. I..

  • ...think I'd be a good idea if you started by looking at yourself first. Being stupid and flaunting it is a bit much.

Also, it's " *You're* staggeringly ignorant. Lol, the irony...

  • why is the reporter shouting at him, he is the one who invited ujjal. Ujjal doesnt even need to do this he isnt getting any brownie points from the canadians by preaching to the americans. If the americans want to pay ridiculous amounts of money to see a doctor, then thats their choice.

  • Wait 3-4weeks to see a specialist thats on relativly common stuff. Thats bullshit I can see and opthamologist in under a week. I'd like to see the wait for a neurologist. Furthermore we treat anyone in the US reguardless if they can pay. Immingrants and others who don't have insurance get treated with no questions asked if they show up at the ER.

  • The number of Canadians who has EVER been to the U.S. for surgery is a tiny, tiny fraction of 1%. If you want to read about the myth of Canadians seeking HC in the US, google "Phantoms in the Snow". It is an absolute lie.

It is far more common for Americans to go to Mexico or Asia for surgery than it is for Cdns. to go to America for surgery.

  • A Government Worker? Can't you even Google buddy? He is a part of the the opposition presently.

  • You're deluded.

  • Google The Tom Baker Cancer Centre. I have been there many times. Never once did we need to go to the US for Cancer Treatment. It is top notch bar non anywhere in the world.

  • Wow Dosanjh, you pull off a Bob Rae is British Columbia's premier and then make it to make it as an MP for Vancouver South. Don't get mad at me for saying this, but thanks for attempting to make healthcare look Liberal invented!

  • @MGman800

I don't think he was doing that at all. What he did was clearly defend the Canadian healthcare system with poise and intelligence from that barking CNN news personality.

  • wow. there seems to be a larger outcry in the USA against healthcare reforms than there was against the invasion in Iraq. Did they interview the Defence Minister of Canada before they indulged in that mindless multi billion dollar exercise?

  • why does this guy keep saying in full "United States of America?"

  • I live in Toronto and I would've rather CNN got Ron Paul on to debate Ujjal.

  • @ch1kusoo At least both of them would be respectful toward each other. Completely disagree with one another, but be respectful.

  • Didn't vote for him, but I always thought he was a straight-forward honest man has he's demonstrated here. He didn't sugar coat the brain-drain issue nor the wait times (too much...) The CNN guy seemed like a real dick - is that what passes for journalism in the U.S.? Sometimes I don't think Walter Cronkite would get a job in today's media - so sad.

  • Funny to see the cnn host trying to be tough on that guest when we all know that cnn is sponsored by some of america's largest healthcare insurers who do not want universal healthcare to make more money. Go Canada...the only country to be voted 7 different years by the united nations as the best country to live in on this planet.

  • Go for it Ujjal~! You've ticked me off from time to time (being my MP) but still love ya man!

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you Mr. Dosanjh!!!

  • as a BC'er: Go Ujjal!

  • My boss has been on a waiting list for a new knee for 4 yrs.

He is also in lots of pain.

  • SHIT! Where do you live, northern nunavut? My grampa got one in a year and a bit.

  • Nova Scotia

  • You've gotta be my favourite New Democrat premier who became a Liberal MP. Right on, Ujjal.
