I did a similar trip with the exception of Hawksbill. Started above Bable tower and went to Spence Ridge to shortoff and then crossed the river and went back up to Conley Cove and then took the road back to the truck in the last week of Jan/ 2011 in an ENO. It was mighty cold but fun hiking in the ice. I enjoy the vids man. I'm in Montana now and missing my NC back yard.

I thought there was a 3 day 2 night limit. I'd like to do some backpacking here but that seems like a tight restriction. How'd you guys get away with such a long trek?

@pep33702 They are kinda vague....talked to the ranger when I got my permit. They may mean 3 days in one specific area. I have never encountered a ranger in the Gorge in all my times there.

We are in and out of the Gorge proper on these trips so we feel OK about it.

Just curious as to why your boy Hickory carries the Walther. Are their Deliverance type dudes crusin' around in the carolina woods? Are you guys worried about walking into a marijuana grow? That's a definite concern out in the California outback now adays.
