  • Does anyone else here ever have these feelings? I think of the entire experience and weigh the cost. I'm not much of a businessman but I can do the math. In a period of history, the US involved itself in a conflict that killed nearly 5 million people. Over 58 thousand of them were American. There should have been no war, of course, but the winners were the only ones with a cause, and all others died unwittingly representing greed, and, sadly, in vain. That hurts most. We died for nothing.

  • I remember that morning as though it were yesterday. I also remember the satisfaction of then learning that we would be permitted to enter the cemetery, and I was proud of our collective demeanor the entire time we occupied Arlington. The Gold Star Mothers were right up front, where I happened to have weaseled a prime spot to hear the earnest and respectful silence that we all, mothers and brothers, displayed. We behaved like gentlemen, and ultimately, we helped achieve a victory of peace.

  • By the way, it's not a crime to be radical. There are people out here supporting imperialist wars in the name of the VVAW. That's a crime and it needs to be dealt with ASAP.

  • The Detroit chapter of the VVAW played a pivotal role in the 1976 "Statue of Liberty" operation.

  • I wonder who wrote this comment: "Despite some extreme actions taken by some radical members......The majority of the Public trusted the VVAW."(7:31). What is that supposed to mean? The first takeover took place in 1971. The second takeover was in 1976. I helped organize the action. The photo in this film depicting the takeover of the Statue of Liberty was taken in 1976, there is a slogan

on one of the banners hanging from the statue, "We carried the rich for 200 hundred years....." is proof.

  • as a viet vet and member of vvaw

    good job

    thanks

we will never give up the struggle

  • Gulf of Tonkin was a false flag.

My dad went in '65 woc3 1st Air Cav.Returned in late 66 because our country hated him.He took his life on 11/11/81 the day the Vietnam Wall was dedicated. We had a chance in 04, but W scammed his way in again.

Now our veterans need us more than ever, our govt is severly criminal and this is serious time.Dont forget to respect the veteran hate the war.

  • whats everyones view on the currant war in iraq is this similar to the vietnam war ie iraq war on terrorism and vietnam war on communism whats the difference someone tell me im becomeing very fustrated by american politics

  • Ron Kovic right on!

  • Pretty good but it would have been good to point out that the closed the gates of Arlington in the faces of Gold Star Mothers that morniing we walked over to place a memorial wreath.

  • Ah yeah. It would have been nice to be able to mention that and a lot of other details I'm sure you also noticed were ommitted. We were actually under a strict time constriction, and would be disqualified for running over ten minutes [this version actually runs 10:12, the final is 20 seconds shorter.], so we simply did not have the time to include the detail we should have liked to.

  • Good thing in vietnam war was that many communists get killed. Good thing in iraq war is that many terrorists get killed. No matter if US gets out from iraq, many terrorists aholes has been killed!

  • The good thing is the truth is coming out, and your personal opinion is a joke.

All the terrorists were killed in the 4 months after 2001.The bad thing is nearly 1 million Iraqi civilians have died.I know many soldiers who have returned from 'the sandbox'.

The 19 hijackers were on a cia payroll, this has been proved.Same with the ones in '93.

So scrape that Bush/Cheney bumper sticker off your suv.

  • Hadaloo, thanks a million for this. I've just now been alerted to your work, and have already begun spreading it worldwide via my blog. Once again, thank you, you're a credit to your generation young lady. I salute you.

  • there's a great documentary out on the history of the Vietnam GI Movement when thousands of service members actively resisted the war. www.sirnosir.com

  • Great job -- are you taking it to nationals? Was this a group or individual project?

  • Ha. Actually, as it were, I was told that this was biased and historically inaccurate. So that's a no, but thank you.

It was a group project, however I [Hadley] did all of the shooting, editing, recording and the greater portion of the scriptwriting.

  • Congratulations on a fine film. I was at Dewey Canyon II, and at the '72 GOP convention. Sadly, your doc is all too timely these days.

  • Iraq is the same damn thing all over again. George Bush is a liar and deserves to be impeached.

  • Awesome doc check out ours too!!!

P.S This is the one who is reffered to as Isabel's brother

  • Very impressive. Solid work. I see shadows of todays current events within Vietnam. Is history doomed to repeat itself?

  • I had my Dad watch it, ( hes a vietnam Vet, he served as a Grunt with the MArines when he was 18) and he said it was very good and informative.

  • Colleagues agree this video is accurate, compelling and timely.

  • Excellent. Contributes to understanding.
