  • Lol, lovin' the thug snap at the end.

  • 14 choose 8 around 400? doesn't it equal 3003?

  • @RedofYellow Yup, you're right. Huge fail of day9.

  • @Mun885 You must be a fuckin' genius, since you were able to do that in your head.

  • @JKlogs Yes I know what you're trying to say. It was arrogant of me, as he is the one with the math major yet it still is a long way off.

  • Comment removed

  • sean, u have very nice nipples

  • I agree, Cannons are great in PvT.

  • How does the snap at the end work?

  • @nuaneful he fails, that's how it works.

  • wish he tought me me math

  • The answer is obviously the number J.

  • (14 choose 8) is 3003.

    3003 * 6! is 3003 * 720 = a little over 2 million.

  • @Renagade242 it's a bit funny that noone checked (14 choose 8 = 3003)... the top comment should be: "wrong! boner Amanda"

  • @Renagade242 o_O Would never have caught that.

  • Is this stuff you learn in probability 101?

  • But will it blend?

  • When does this patch come out?

  • My parents thought that I was learning how to do Math.

    Man if they knew.

  • O.o

did not know that sean could stand

  • Doesn' this incorrectly assume that the order of pieces on a particular island matters?

  • I was pretty bad at discrete but shouldn't this just be 9^6 not all this choose shit ... ?

  • @toastfromheaven Because those are unique pieces.

  • wat if der was a pie

  • wait order doesnt matter so wouldnt it be nCr?

  • I just got mathed.

  • 400 * 6 = 300,000... I suck at math by the looks of things!

  • @britneyonpot thats 6!, 6 factorial. 6! = 6*5*4*3*2*1. So its just about correct

  • @5mjacbyr I wasn't questioning his math... I was questioning mine :D And there's the problem so thank you!

  • @britneyonpot yeah u do.

    its 400 * (6 !) = 288 000

  • @MsFlownominal Uhh I was just going by the approximate value that Sean put on the board, I'm not actually so bothered as to work it out...

  • but... 14 choose 8 isn't ~400. 14 choose 8 is 3003. After that, the n! being 6 would make the correct answer 2,162,160.

I don't place blame, just hoping to help others watching the video and hoping to learn something.

  • Day[9] your so smart!!!

  • And from where is this?

  • thug snappin'

  • Did nobody get that this was a sex joke?

  • lol wtf am I watching! I'm too dumb for this shit!

  • I'm epsilon there!

  • WTF is that O_o Is that complete bullshit or real mathematics using process I don't know O°o

  • @Unexard its statistics

  • (math nerd)

The funny part is that it's actually simpler than he's making it. Since each of six pieces is unique, and can be on any of nine islands, regardless of each other, there are simply 9 ^ 6 = 531441 positions.

Now, here's a better question: how many positions are there that don't meet the victory conditions?

    (/math nerd)

  • @CarptheFish I don't know what question he;s trying to answer, but if it's how many ways can you distribute 6 things on 9 islands, the answer is not 9^6, 9^6 is the answer of each island can have up to 6 unique things on it, how many combinations of things can you have? With the max no. of thing being 6 on every island

  • @Tomwithnonumbers Hm...he really doesn't say what question he's answering. I do stand by 9^6 as the total number of game states: the first piece can be on nine islands, the next can be on any isle as well, for 9^2 possibilities, on through all six of them.

As for how many combinations of pieces on one island: 2^6 (=64): each piece is either on or off independently.

  • @CarptheFish Whoops, read your first one as 6^9 which is an entirely different matter :D. Yeah that's fair enough as long as the six pieces are each unique and the islands are all unique.

  • @CarptheFish and it would have been 6^9 but 7^9 for non unique pieces or 64^9 for unique pieces. Sorry huge huge fail on my part :D

  • he reminds me of the gay drama guy from my highschool. is this pre day9 dailies where he developed his bad ass man side?

  • omg sean nooooo :( maths fail dude

  • like the 5th time watching this... I realized he's wearing a CJ shirt

  • He is my math mentor now, such a baller

  • That is alot

  • is sean GAY?

  • That is one TIGHT shirt..

  • You must divide by 6!, not multiply.

  • I think we got it.

    NOT!

  • so what choose (in the sentence 14 choose 8 ) means? ... english is not my first language to make it 3003? or 400 like he said ... im just curious

  • @PwnStarcraft 14!/6!/8!

    (14*13*12*....*2*1)/(6*5*4*3*2*1)!/(8*7*...*2*1)=3003

    6=14-8

the recurring probability formula is x!/(x-y)!/y!

My native language isn't english as well, but I know this much.

  • 14 choose 8 is not 300....................

  • Planetary Fortress is OP...

  • If you fail at math, you fail at life.

  • thug snaps <3

  • omg better go play sc.....

  • I hate maths... but I think i would enjoy it if Day9 was my teacher :P

  • anyone else notice that when you look at the google image of this video it says it = J

  • It's easier when you just not try to understand it.

  • @roboMachineMAN It's easy if you enjoyed an average highschool education and it's nowhere near as imposing as it is presented!

  • macro > micro

  • @meaturama macro+micro > macro/micro

  • 14 after 8 is actually 3003, not 400, so kinda missed approximation there.

    Multiplied by another 6!, that makes 2 162 160 combinations :)

  • Google Scholar Sean Plott 8)

  • Im surprised he didnt make an sc2 reference for almost a minute in a half

  • @TheDay9Lover look at upload date XD

  • @TheDay9Lover I'm more surprised it wasn't a Brood War reference actually

  • Doesn't 14 C 8 equal 3003? Or am I thinking of the wrong thing for choose??

  • 9^6 = 531441

  • @systomato 9 * 6! = 9*6*5*4*3*2*1

  • The simplest representation will be marines in bunkers!

  • Thanks! now do sex ed!

  • i understand the math...that part is simple. The relevance of this to anything even remotely starcraft is whats confusing the shit out of me

  • @h3lix86 everything in starcraft can be put into numbers, litteraly anything.... even positioning can be explained and calculated through diffrent equations and calculations...

math is an underestimated weapon my dear friend.

  • @h3lix86 it's sean plot(Day[9]) explaining it. therefore, starcraft.

  • @h3lix86 then you clearly don't understand math. even though his math is wrong, you should still be able to understand the point he's trying to make.

  • @h3lix86 use it to find the chance that a terran will just 2rax you... There are 2 builds that dont get gas before 2 minutes so 2C2=50% but then you have to add in the fact they are between bronze and diamond or masters + between bronze and diamond you have an addition 49% chance and in masters an additional 25% chance they will 2rax you instead of quick CC

  • why are most starcraft players good at math and I aren't

  • @orginallos Seems like you aren't great at grammar either.

  • @GDGillis25

    Am not*

  • @orginallos Haha, I was just joking around. Day9 majored in mathematics.

  • And you need to know this in real life, because....???

    LOL MATH WUT?

  • nice moobs

  • what is this filmed for? really random lol

  • @Moorb0y52 Probably during his college days, since he majored in Mathematics while at Harvey Mudd

  • His arithmetic is fallacious. 14C8 = 3003

  • Comment removed

  • Can some1 please xplain it to me? XD this is going to facking fast

  • damn i wishmy lecturer had been that clear on my 2nd semester

  • CJ Entus shirt REPRESENT!!!!!!!!

  • this is day9??

  • @fearfrozen75 haha he seems like a whole different person

  • For the people saying 400 x 6 is not 300,000, it says 6!, which means its 400x6x5x4x3x2x1

  • day 9 you are suppose to use your powers for truth and justice and sc2, not math and evil.

  • Comment removed

  • no sc2 ....

WTF r u talking about SEAN?!

  • ....../.../...///...////..

  • I don't get wtf is going on but it's Day[9] so it's awesome

  • day9 u missused that equality siiiign. Frowny face for that shortcut <3

  • Is this retarded on purpose or Im stupid and just dont get it ?

    Day9 for president!

  • @ActualGaming his logic was right, he just was off on the arithmetic, and yeah this is pretty random

  • FUCK MATH

  • dat gamer hunch.

  • But if the equation was wrong... that would be micro.

  • THUGSNAPZ

  • I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT

  • except that 14 choose 8 is 3003

  • @Tzeapaedi Those fricken combinational numbers...

  • =(

  • love the fucking shirt III WAANNNNNTTTTTTT

  • What is this for exactly

  • I don't know what he's talking about, but I'm going to assume this makes him smart.

  • @QuilavaKing Not really. 14 choose 8 is 3003, not 400.

  • I...have no idea what he's talking about.

  • He would be an EXCELLENT substitute/replacement for my math 111 class; current professor is about 4 times his age :|

  • @NoMissBar19 MATH 111? MATH 111 OP

  • Look...

    184x2732 (23x3232) = 1337*SC/6*5*4*3*2*1*0*-1*-2.

    Get it?

    Me neither

  • Why and how did i go from Hokuto no Ken OST to Day9... in a single click it was right on the side of Hokuto no Ken (PS2) Fatal K.O.

  • You need to know probability math to understand that :P

I can explain 6! (only thing I remember xD).

6! is 6*5*4*3*2*1. If I have 6 people in a race there would be 6! possible results. Since 6! is 720 the chance of a certain result (let's say number 1 first, 2 second, 3 third etc...) is 1/720 which is about 0.14%.

  • day9!! I miss his livesteam :S

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

  • THANK YOU DAY9

  • About Math complaints: It's true that 400*6! = 400*720 = 288.000 ~ 300.000

    However, it's the 400 that is incorrect. "n choose k" = n!/(k!(n-k)!) so therefore: "14 choose 8" = 14!/(6!8!) = 3003

    Now if we multiply this by 6! we get 14!/8! = 2.162.160 ~ 2.200.000

  • 6! = 1*2*3*4*5*6 = 720

  • This proves that terran is OP

  • 400 * 6 DOES NOT EQUAL 300,000

  • @DjYoungSkeff its 400*6! -> 6! = 6*5*4*3*2*1 = 720 so 400*720 is about 300000

  • @DjYoungSkeff

    rofl

  • @DjYoungSkeff he wrote 400 * 6! which means 400*6*5*4*3*2, maybe you should think before you write.

  • its about 2,1 million possibilities not 300k

  • @Samus013 400*6! = 400*720 = 288,000. Pretty good considering he estimated it in his head.

  • Ehh permutations...

  • @SaucyTacatr3y Combinations, actually.

  • I want u as a teacher Day 9 ;D

  • MOOOOOBS

  • At the beginning I thought he said Pylons instead of Islands.

  • @fwoqma well yeah a 9 pylon is standard

  • I'm surprised he could find a CJ shirt that fit him.

  • @neobowman fit him? that thing looks pretty streched

  • @TheNamesChrome Well he probably got that shirt a few years ago when he was a little smaller but still wants to wear it and can't really get a larger sized one so he just has to wear it a little tight. Doesn't look all that bad.

  • 14C8=90090... Day, I love you, but... lol

  • @CelloPlayer258 14C8 = 3003

  • is this possibility?

  • w00t i neever thought about him beeing so packed :D

  • wtf is he talking about, starcraft ??

  • he's packing a fatty!

  • Jegus, the factorial concept is like... "end of elementary school" math. _\(=/)/_

  • @ShadowAbomination Elementary school math for me was long division... I didn't even know of what algebra was until 7th grade.

  • Umm... 400 times 6 is not 300,000.

  • @Arlen10 Yea, clearly someone needs to go back to school. It's 6!. And from what I can see, you don't know what that means. It's 6*5*4*3*2*1. So yea, it's approximately 300k

  • @Arlen10 It's 6!(factorial) didn't you ever take stats?

  • @bumblebumz I'm 15 in Geometry. So I don't know xD

  • @Arlen10 it's (400*6!)=(400*1*2*3*4*5*6) it's a Factorial look it up on wiki for more info ;)

  • @Prownage552 yeah look it up on wiki if you failed elementary school math ^^

  • @Arlen10 yous a re-tard (:

  • @Arlen10 6 factorial bro.

  • I would of done so much better in Math if Day j did more maths videos :)

  • There are people who don't know math that are commenting on this video.

    They should stop.

  • Why the heck is day9 explaining this?

  • Sdhjtge you are retarted 400*6! is 300,000 if you were in a math past geometry you would have realized this.

  • umm...but 400 * 6 isnt 300,000 its 2400

  • @sdhjtge his equation is 400 times the 6 factorial aka 6! which is not 400 times 6 but actually 400*6*5*4*3*2*1

  • @sdhjtge 6 factorial n00b

  • holy shit. when i was learning this type of math. i was wondering the real world implication
