@TobyEllisSongwriter Doubt its the strings, many guitar legends used 9's (Page, Clapton, Angus, Iommi, etc.) Billy Gibbons uses 7's and he has some of the best tone. Tone is in the hands not in the string gauge.

i use a 335 for hardcore.. pretty much the only one i know of doing this. everyone thinks its just a blues guitar!!
