  • Very beautiful, Allen. It sounds as if you really were in a sentimental, perhaps even melancholic mood. Extremely nice chord progressions. Great from the genious opening chord till the repeatet notes over different chords near the end. Greetings from way over the ocean, Jogi

  • Thanks Jogi.

    I love this tune.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • Hi Allen, I´m always fascinated of your "chord-work". I love this very much as you know. It´s like sitting near to you, very warm , but not only the primitive tender mood...it´s intelligent playing! Great, man!

    Best wishes, Frank

  • Wow. Thank you Frank. That is the best compliment I have received from anyone. The "Duke" gave me some great material with which to work.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • nice allen u say patatoe i say patato..i likes yer better :)

  • ah okay i understand with the runs. so you mean that i should use single notes to join up the melody sort of thing??

  • Yeah. Consider it voice leading. I don't do it all of the time. In all cases do what your ear tells you is best.

    allen

  • did you use tabs?

  • No sorry. I never wrote this arrangement down. I would love to hear it played on a piano.

  • I can play this on the piano. Im just starting to learn how to play jazz on the guitar. How did you learn to play jazz on the guitar?

  • I started with piano music and a chord book. Guitar music is written an octave higher than piano. Anyway, I played the melody and added the chords to the bottom and kept the melody on top.

Over time I learned to re harmonize (chord substitution).

That's all there is to it!

    allen

  • Allan, I listened with great attention, you took some liberties here and there,re-harmonizing some own adaptable melodies that fit the chords,I like that, like that run you took before going to the bridge.interesting voicings, very relaxed, spacious sound full of warmth yet precise definition. According to me not too many chords, just following own imagination on a journey through the Song, very, very, good work.love it,greets Vic.

  • Thanks for taking the time to listen Victor. I am reminded of something you wrote on "Here There and Everywhere". How two musicians can imagine the same song compleatly different from one another. This is another example that proves you point.

That is what make music special!

    Cheers,

    allen

  • go man merry christmas

  • Hey Greate Playingo ! Carlos

  • super clean playing with lots of feeling! can't ask for more than that! 5*****

  • Hi Allen,

    luca

  • Hi for me this song is also my favorite melody o the Duke...and interpreted nicely by Allen the chords master.

    very nice arrangement.

    Stephane.

  • Thank you Stephane. You are very kind.

    allen

  • Nice and super-clean as always! I like the way you make somthing personnel out of different sources.

  • Thank you. I'll borrow or steal from anyone and then change it to fit my ear :)

    Merry Christmas to you,

    allen

  • Thanks for playing my kind of music! That guitar sounds so nice.

    Steve

  • Thanks Steve.

    Merry Christmas.

    allen

  • Great post allen. 5*****

How you getting on with that Tommy Emmanuel stuff? haha...It must take about 8 fingers on each hand to master some of that book.

    Best wishes

    Chris

  • Thanks Chris. TE is kicking my butt. I should have started working on finger style a long time ago. I can play several of his arrangements. I have to cheat and adapt them to flat-pick.

How are things in my second favorite country? I need to get back over there. My wife is itching to go back. Maybe we can meet one day.

    allen

  • Haha...a cold beer in sunny Geogia sounds good to me.

If your coming back over to Scotland make sure its in the summer, when its slightly less cold and slightly less rainy(in a good year that is)haha..

  • I know the weather quite well. I lived in Glasgow for 15 months. I prefer the weather in Scotland to the hot humid crap we must endure here.

  • Beautiful!
