(and this will only work if you have the correct compiler installed and used the correct switches)

linux has binaries too but if you want to do something like (create/delete) files or capture the screen then you have to run them as root which makes automatic infection impossible.

That and linux binaries require root privileges to install anywhere other than the home folder.

In fact a LOT of things in linux requires root privileges which in a sense makes linux a LOT more secure than windows.

All of the permissions that one has to change to dangerous levels just for the install to work is well... One does not need to go through that with your new systems. Linux 2.6.x has support for more hardware out of the box than any version of windows, and this is a huge advantage when re purposing old computers.

You don't have to spend an hour on each computer to install drivers after and wait 5 hours to download updates for Windows XP The install is 15 minutes, and 95% of everything just works, and the other 5% isn't bad so long as you know where to look for documentation. (maybe another 15 minutes)

This computer had been used with windows 95 for a long time, then was left and never touched for 6 years or so. booted ran a few hour then connected it to the internet, 70 sec or so and just blacked for good.

Command line interface lets you do it with 4 commands. (tar, configure, make, make install), and you'll probably only need to do if for experimental or alpha state programs.

To get a package from a repository, it's one command in the terminal. Typing a single phrase will get you 90% of the software you might want.

All you need to do to pickup a nasty rootkit is not update your virus definitions, and while yes thats a very idiotic thing to do , you would be amazed at how many people dont do it, i dont really like google chrome for that reason, firefox can be styled to look like chrome and yes IE does suck :)
