I've never met a social conservative who made an intelligent impression on me. I think the characteristic black and white thinking that many social conservatives display stems from the fact they have simple minds. Nuance, ambiguity and detail do not exist in the simple mind. This leads them to perceiving the world around them in an oversimplified way and coming up with simple ideas to what in reality are complex problems. I think their is too many variables in this study to really make a conclution. What if the dumber kids got picked on by a minority group because of their lack of inteligence? What if the "not as smart kids" were picked due to who their parents were (and their parents were rasist)? Plus, conservatives are hard working people that work hard for their money,just to get it taken away? Librals are usually peopel who live off of the government. Well the fact that conservatism is preferred by the stupid doesn't invalidate its principles. Don't get me wrong; I'm not a social conservative. But the fact that stupid people prefer the ideology might mean nothing more than that it's principles are easy to understand and apply. If something strikes you as foreign or revolting, then without more you can proclaim it to be bad or wrong. There's no reason to subject the belief to a second stage of inquiry--ie asking "what harm is it doing?"

I do love the Pakman show, but I'm thinking this episode is a bit misleading. It's one thing to say that those with a low IQ tend to be racist & conservative, and distintly another to say that those who are racist & conservative tend to have a low IQ. This because the low IQ group could always be a very small subset of the conservative & racist population. And employing a reverse inference, in this case, is patently illogical.

The title of this article should be "DUH"! Conservatism, by definition, is suspicious of change and new ideas. The only way to increase intelligence, however you may define it, is by being open to new ideas. In other words, the very mindset which is conducive to increasing knowledge and awareness is the mindset that is the very antithesis of conservatism. There is also north south (north being libertarian and south being authoritarian) You could be a liberal libertarian (anarchist) or a conservative libertarian (anarcho capitalist) just as you could be Liberal Authoritarian (Communism) or Conservative Authoritarian (Fascism). This idea that authoritarian principles are liberal or conservative only is nonsense

The problems with these theories from the social sciences is many times they mistake one behavioral mechanism for another. These same scientists will tell you that half of a person's intelligence is created by experience in their environment. This is conditioning and can be reversed.So alluding that science claims conservatives are more likely to be stupid is not only a preach to the choir but will contribute further to the anti-intellectual disdain that exists for the scientific community.

@Mahoivlich Studies have also claimed that women are better than men at math, but this is because men are conditioned anti-intellectual. It is better to be tough and hard working than to be smart. Given the same upraising both sexes perform the same. There are more factors than these half-assed studies look at. They tend to ignore this because it produces data counter to their thesis.
