I know I'll get a lot of flack for this. This is one of my favorite movies but I NEVER understood the acting during the first fight. After Macchio gets knocked down by Zbaka (Johnny), he gets up and runs at him. He just keeps running so Johnny can trip him. It was so obviously set up. He wasn't even positioning himself to hit or jump on Johnny. He just runs in a straight line. If Johnny didn't trip him, he would have just run past him...maybe he was trying to run home.
